A: Hello Mary, I do not think this product will keep the crows away. A bird's sensory system is different than that of a mammal. Many consumers say they like to feed the Hot Pepper Suet because the squirrels may not like it, they may sense the hot.
A: Yes, the discount is available with a purchase of 12 or more.
A: I always purchase a box of 12, mainly because of the discounted price.
A: Not anymore, unfortunately. They stopped that earlier this year.
A: I asked today, 11/18/22, at Silver Spring HD and was not given a discount at checkout.
A: Discount no longer available. I purchased today 12/8/22.
A: you have to check the Home Depot listing to see if that's still offered.
A: Yes, recycle it with your other plastic.
A: The plastic tray is just to deliver the suet to you. To feed the birds you need to remove it from the tray and put it in some sort of suet feeder. The most common kind being just a square box of green half inch wire metal.
A: Yes. Birds need access to all sides of the cake. Enjoy! The birds at my feeders will devour one of these in a little as one week.
A: Yes, remove the plastic wrapper and remove cake block from tray and put in your suet feeder.
A: I've removed the plastic tray most times but have left it on also. Removing it allows the birds to access from all sides.
A: Yes you are. They sell baskets to put it in.
A: Yes
A: it works better if you have a simple suet feeder; I would worry that the birds would peck apart the tray and possibly ingest some of the plastic. So, short answer, yes, remove the plastic tray; the suet cake is the standard size for all suet feeders. This particular variety, by the way, is perfect for our area because the pepper absolutely keeps the squirrels away!
A: Yes. That way it can be eaten on all sides. I put mine in a holder & hang in on a shepherd's hook. Works well.
A: Qwispy: Normally you should remove the tray and place the suet in a standalone container where the birds can access it. I believe the plastic tray is type #1 and thus recyclable.
A: Don't know - we don't have wood siding - however the woodpeckers like to peck on the tree we hang this feeder from independent of whether there is suet or not
A: Don't know, but we see woodpeckers at the suet all the time. Woodpeckers like this suet. Our house is brick, so we don't have that problem.
A: Well, we have wood trim, not wood siding, but we did have a woodpecker pecking away on the side of our house. That is no longer the case with this suet in a small "cage" bird feeder out back. The woodpeckers (we have several varieties here in Northern Virginia) come get their food at the feeder and fly off to the nearby forest for some fresh bug. So, yes, I hadn't much thought about it (it was more a question of keeping the squirrels off the feeder, and the pepper does that), but this product really does seem to work in the way you noted. You'll get more than woodpeckers too, but I just go out once in a while and shoo away the crows and some other nasty black birds that want to take over the area. One shoo and they're gone for 2 weeks or more.
A: Woodpeckers will grab the railing of my deck (natural wood) so they can get to the suet, and leave the wood alone.
A: It may distract them.
A: I don't have wood siding or shingles. However, any animal will go after a food source that is easy to get to. I have woodpeckers at my bird feeder (sunflower black oil) and occasional Hot Pepper Delight. I suggest setting an alternate food source, such as above, and see what happens. If successful, this would be a cheaper (and more entertaining) method versus repairing damaged wood. Best of luck!
A: Not this flavor!
A: Not sure ! But it DOES help!
A: No, it's meant to get rid of squirrels. The birds love it. The suet is not an exterminator.
A: No, you should have a pest inspection done. Woodpeckers are attracted to insects.
A: Definitely will keep raccoons and squirrels away! Had raccoons destroying my feeder pole (caught on a trail cam) and squirrels eating up the suet cakes. Since using the "hot"cakes, neither has bothered them. On the other side, I am having Grackles and Starlings emptying my feeders in 2 DAYS!!! That's 3 double cage holders. Love seeing them though.
A: This has kept the raccoons away here, as well as opossums and squirrels, all of which were keeping us from feeding the birds (which we enjoy). The raccoons pull down the feeders and drag the whole thing off with regular suet but leave this alone. The opossums would climb the poles and tear things up too and the squirrels will get on the regular suet and eat it all right through the cages. Home Depot has been our best source for this but have been out of stock for a while now.
A: It should. If the raccoons get into your suet holder and bite a chunk off, they will regret it. Hopefully, they will learn and won't come back.
A: We don't have raccoons
A: Squirrels - I don't know about raccoons.
A: yes
A: No. Raccoons love it. You have to keep the suet feeder high enough so the raccoons don't get to it.
A: Squirrels don't like it since it's hot, and never had experience raccoons touching it.
A: Don’t know, as raccoons aren’t a big issue here. Since they are mammals, they might be deterred by hot spicy suet.
A: Raccoons and squirrels hate it, they won't go near it.
A: Best to order on Home Depot website and pick up at store. Comes 12 to a tray. I usually buy a couple at a time. Have never purchased at WalMart.
A: Because it works. But Home Depot will restock soon. Order 12 at a time and you will get a discount .
A: The High Point, NC store had plenty. Just purchased 5 today. It is popular with all types of birds. Try ordering online at homedepot.com
A: Don't know the answer, but I started ordering it online at Home Depot and picking it up in the store a few hours later. It seems they always have cases hidden away somewhere, but not on display. Asking an employee in the store didn't help much either, but it magically appears when I order it online.
A: Janey, I don't know for sure... but I noticed the same thing as Walmart used to be one of the cheapest suppliers of hot pepper suet. Also Tractor Supply...but they don't seem to have it anymore either. My guess is that it didn't sell well enough and so they lost money...that's my guess because last year I got about 4 12-packs at Tractor Supply when they clearanced it out at 67 cents a piece!!! I drove to the 2 closest stores and bought them out. Just finished the last cake this week and now I'm in the same predicament. Looks like Home Depots' bulk price is the best unless someone is offering a close out that isn't listed online.
A: Well I wished that I had paid attention to the ingredients on an older package from years ago but I didn't. What I received at my local Home Depot store seems to be exactly what it should be. Even though it doesn't say "chili peppers", red pepper comes from chili peppers. It still looks and feels like the same consistency and texture. I have a lot of birds and tree squirrels in my yard and the birds still love the stuff and the squirrels won't touch it, which is my main objective. I've been buying C & S Hot Pepper suet for years and I was very happy to find that Home Depot sells it. I've tried other brands of "hot pepper" and it was awful. I'll keep using the C & S and hope Home Depot continues to sell it.
A: We still have this in MD HD stores, but it is never on display.I have to order it online and pick it up a few hours later in the store. No idea what is going on, but this works for me.
A: This is the only kind of suet my birds will eat and they eat a lot of it. Other brands of hot pepper suet is not good because my birds simply will not eat it. The C & S brand is the only one.
A: If it has no chili pepper then squirrels will eat it live. No switching.
A: Squirrels won't go near our feeder with 'Hot Pepper Delight' in our bird house!
