Q:Where does the self watering happen?

A:  You still have to fill the reservoir every couple of days. You will use the black tube pictured in the back on the left, that is the fill tube. It works well, as it waters from beneath the soil.

A:  There is a tube shown in the upper left corner. You just add water through the tube and the water is held at the bottom of the box. You will find a black shelf with slots in it that holds the soil up over the bottom. This allows the water to stay below the soil. I find the roots find their way down to it. I have also added a layer of small rock around the tube to hold it upright. Depending on the soil you use, I have also added a piece of screening over the shelf to assist in keeping the soil above the water. I have been using these for several years and have had great success.

A:  The reservoir bottom allows for the soil to absorb water as needed yet the great which is supplied also allows aeration.

A:  There is a tube on one corner where you put in the water, it settles into the lower portion where the roots can wick up the water. It works really well. It is hard to know when there is enough water though because you can't see it, so I just regularly added a measured pitcher full of water.

A:  In the top shelf there is a type of landscape fabric, that sits halfway between the top & bottom. There is a "pipe" sitting in one corner where you water. Frankly, it does not work very well. I am using a different solution this year, and giving this away.

A:  No, the casters do not lock.

                by|Dec 10, 2018

A:  Hello the casters do not lock. Also the whole set should only be used on a smooth/semi smooth/stable surface. If you try to roll on grass/dirt/non-stable surface you will be risking breaking off the wheels. If you need to place on dirt or grass the unit should be picked up and placed down.

A:  No, the top bin, sits on legs, which sits on bottom base. Unless you move around on the wheels when you pick it up it comes apart.

A:  Yes, these are very easy to do. Just snap together the wheels and the four poles. Then add your soil and put on the black mesh (has elastic) over the soil; and cut holes to plant whatever in. I have four of these and I just love them, and my back also. No more bending over. Nancy

A:  It depends on what you are planting. Last year I planted 2 tomato plants and a hot pepper plant. This year I am planting herbs and flowers. I love the growing box with stand because I have an apartment patio garden and being able to move it around is a big plus.

A:  It's 24"x20" so depends on what you are planting. As someone else commented it's best for low plants, e.g. I use 2 containers for low plants like lettuce, basil, cilantro, arugula. Works great. The 3rd for tomatoes (5-6 plants) but I use tall stakes in the ground for stability otherwise they'd topple over. I got the raised boxes instead of fencing off an area in the yard so my dogs can't trample the plants.
