Q:Can I pour into a steam boiler to clean and use as a rust preventive

Answer This Question
A: We do not recommend using any of our products in or on any materials associated with a steam boiler. The acids in our product that are effective in dissolving mineral deposits such as rust, are not compatible with the materials/components associated with such units. We recommend contacting the manufacturer of your boiler for their recommendation for products safe to use in/on their materials.

Answer This Question
A: Under the CLR Brand we have 18 different products, each one formulated to clean differently. Our CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover is a concentrated formula proven effective in dissolving mineral deposits caused by hard water (calcium/lime) and/or rust. It is the ONLY one of our products that contains the necessary chemicals to remove rust (in addition to calcium/lime). Depending on the material our product will be coming into contact with will determine if it should be used diluted (equal parts w/water) or if it's safe to use full strength.

A: Jelmar DOES NOT RECOMMEND the use of CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover in or on any water heaters (tank or tankless); however there is a website that does. Again, JELMAR DOES NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF CLR IN A WATER HEATER. The chemical make-up of CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover is not compatible with the materials or components of a water heater and cannot be thoroughly flushed through the water heater after 2 minutes. We recommend using what the manufacturer of the water heater deems safe and effective.

A: Yes, while our product can be used topically on the tub, we recommend that our product be used to clean the entire machine (lines, jets & tub) as most likely what you're seeing on the surface of the tub is also inside the machine.
We recommend pouring ½ cup of CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover directly into the bottom of an empty dishwasher (no glasses, dishes or flatware but the racks can stay). Run a normal cycle followed by an extra rinse cycle. This will clean out the lines, jets and tub of the machine preventing mineral deposits from accumulating on your glasses, dishes and flatware in the future. Note: Make sure the dishwasher does not contain any other detergents, rinse aids or chemicals when using our product.

Q:will this product remove creosote stains on exterior brick chimney?
by|Feb 1, 2023
2 Answers
Answer This Question
A: While our CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover has been proven effective in removing creosote, our product should not be used on tinted or coated brick. Note: since brick is naturally made of calcium, extreme caution needs to be taken. Using a calcium remover such as our product on something naturally made of calcium, you run the risk of pulling a natural component of the brick out resulting in a loss of pigment. Always spot test first

Q:I found a bottle of CLR under the sink that is over 10 years old. Will it still be effective? The bottle seems a bit expanded so I am afraid to open it, in case it may explode. It was also sitting on the heating vent. And how to dispose safely?

A: While our products do not technically 'expire', we do recommend using or disposing of any of our products within 3 years from the manufacture date which should coincide closely with the purchase date as the chemicals can separate & become less effective. The best way to dispose of any unused product is to flush small amounts down a toilet bowl or pour small amounts down a drain followed by cold water.
