Answer This Question
A: Hi Lynn! Thank you for your question! The Cat Palm thrives in bright but indirect sunlight so morning shade would be great as prolonged direct sunlight can burn the leaves. It needs about 2-3 cups of water, once a week. We hope this helps!

A: Hi MF,
All of Costa Farms palms are grown from seed and sadly we do not track the gender. Once your plant flowers feel free to send us photos to questions@costafarms.com and we would be happy to sex the plant for you.

A: Yes and they are mealy bugs, I found them on mine too and my plant eventually started to die. It has root rot too ... regret for purchasing online

A: Hi Eileen! You can treat the plant for webs by giving it a nice shower to rinse off any pests or webs. Once the shower is done, we recommend a product such as neem oil to treat the plant or a homemade insecticide mixture (1 quart of water with 1.5 teaspoons of Dawn liquid dish soap). Mist the leaves with the treatment and water the plant covering the entire soil surface with the same mixture. Depending on how severe an infection is, it could take more than 1 application. We hope this information helps!

Q:We live in Houston, so it's hot and humid in summer and moderate in winter (40-50 degrees minimum). What's the lowest outside temperature the plant can tolerate?

A: Hi Tina5, Yes! The cat palm can go outdoors in warm temperatures. If temperatures begin to drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it is recommended to bring the plant indoors.

A: Keeping it outside in the spring and summer would be fine, so long as it's watered when the soil begins to dry up. Palms generally like to be in temperatures above 65, so keeping it outside during the winter is likely too cold. However, these are small enough to be kept indoors as well.
