A:  This will work but its going to be hard to feather edge no matter what you use. I would leave the grooves.

Q:I'm replacing old add-on kitchen tile floor - Want to fill rotted or wall-edge depressions in the old hardwood before covering with new tile board and tile. Would this work? The HD bullets are much broader than the product appears. And classic floor levelers seem too concrete-like for what I'm trying to do. (Alternate suggestions?)

A:  No it will not work. It shrinks and will break up after it dries. I’ve used the Henry patch and level and it works well and is easy to use.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. We would not recommend the use of the Phenopatch Wallboard Joint Compound for your described application however, our DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler can be used for minor cosmetic repairs on natural wood flooring, stair treads, risers, stingers and related trim. Areas that may be subject to abrasion or wear should be protected with a surface coating, such as a high-quality polyurethane, that is "traffic rated" for flooring applications. As with any hard setting wood repair filler, it should not be applied to joints, seams or other areas prone to movement. Should you have any additional questions or require additional application guidance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Yes, drywall and plaster often use the same compounds and can adhere to one another.

A:  No, the joint compound, while wet, will fall to the floor. Its consistency is too thin.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. The Phenopatch Wallboard Joint Compound is designed for the repair of drywall seams and surface imperfections. For plaster repairs, we would recommend the use of products like DAP ALEX PLUS Spackling or DAP DryDex Spackling. A:  It depends honestly. If the wall is supported by studs behind it, yes. If you have two boards without studs or span a long distance then no mud will help that. If the latter, try the flexible compound.

A:  I don't know. What I do know is if you use this product, it will not stick to anything but the floor. It's too thin and falls off the wall or ceiling.

A:  You know what, I just bought a quart of this because I had a tub of the USG brand leftover from a couple years ago and it got black mold in it. It was strange, actually; I used the 2 year old USG compound just a couple weeks ago on my walls, and it had absolutely no black no mold in it. But then I opened up yesterday, it was full of black mold forming in the bottom. I may or may not have left it open a crack, I don't think I did though, I usually close the containers of anything when I'm done. I've worked with the stuff many times and never seen that happen. I just bought this and used half the container tonight, so far so good but too soon to tell if it is resistant to mold. This compound, it does look, feel, and even smell different than the USG stuff, so maybe it is or isn't as mold resistant (in fact, I like the odor, it's not as strong as USG which is a plus). You think they WOULD put something in these compounds, a small amount of a chemical to ward off mold. But I don't know. What I did read; if you want to preserve joint compound, make sure it's sealed good, and store it somewhere where the temperatures fluctuate. I also read to seal it with a bag/wrapper to prevent oxygen from getting in the container. Some say to store your compound with a hint of chlorine or bleach to ward of mold (although I never tried or endorse that idea). And common sense; regardless of the brand, if you see any mold in your joint compound, toss it! You definitely don't want molding building materials being permanently added to your home, especially to drywall where it can grow and expand. Both compound and walls have organic materials that mold loves.
