Answer This Question
A: DAP High Heat Mortar can be used for sealing wood-burning stoves, however, because this product dries to a hard mortar like texture, care should be taken when applying it, to ensure that it does not impede the function of the door's normal operation. Example: an excessively thick application of sealant may not permit the door or its latch to close/seal properly.

A: This product is only good for repairing mortar where there's no chance of it ever getting wet. This stuff dissolves rapidly when wet. Put it near heat and it gets hard fast and stays that way.

A: The best course of action will be to remove as much of the loose material as you can. Once the High Heat Mortar as been appiled and it has set, it should seal properly. This product is not UL certified however.
I have used this type of product on the firebrick inside my fireplace with good results.

A: DAP High Heat Mortar is designed primarily for small touch up repairs. For larger and more involved repairs, a dry mix refractory cement may be the better choice. Given the age of the fireplace, a proper inspection by a professional may also be in order.
