Q:I am getting very inconsistent results on how far the .5" staples will go into particle board. Some go all the way in, most go about 3/4 of the way in. I am consistent in ensuring the front of the stapler with the guide is flush on the board. Am I missing something? Is there a way to adjust and lock in the depth?

A:  Hello. particular board is inconstant on hardness. you are not doing any thing wrong just hammer the ones that are not going all the way in or your going to have to step up to pneumatic stapler.

A:  I have experienced the same results on plywood, I've used a hammer to finish pushing the staple in the board.

A:  Even though you may start with the front of the stapler next to the board the stapler may actually rise when you squeeze the grip. This is fairly common when one get tired. I would suggest that you take your other hand if it is not being used to hold the material stapled and put a little downward pressure on the top of the stapler over the head end. I the material is needed to be held you might try and use just your thumb as additional pressure and see if this helps.

A:  I have never had much success with that either. And the electric staple guns have the same problem. I have used this exact model for hundreds of staples, but frankly often ended up going back and using a tack hammer to finish the staples. Just today I had the same problem, so I switched to an electric staple gun, and it had the very same issue, and so I switched from 1/2" to 3/8" staples. I was stapling some screening material into treated wood on a screen house. Yet, I still had to go back and tack down some of the 3/8" staples, no matter what setting I used. I guess we need a staple gun contest to find out if any of these staple guns can really sink a 1/2' staple.

A:  How deep a .5" staple will go into any thing using human power depends on many factures, How much downward muscle pressure you apply to hand held stapler, how hard or dense the material is you are putting the staple in. I do not know of any human who can get all these factors the same every time. It also depends on the power of the stapler used. I do not think a manual stapler will drive a staple into anything the same depth every time. If their is a way, I would like to learn it myself!

A:  T50 staples work well in the Dewalt. I have only stapled into pine, maximum size staples I have used were 9/16". I do not know about hardwood. I bought two staple guns, the Dewalt and an electric staple gun from Amazon - Freeman PFWS Professional Fine Wire Stapler 20 Gauge for $27 and it also uses T50 staples.

A:  This gun uses T50 sized staples. I haven't seen staples for this gun longer than a 1/2 inch so you may need a more substantial gun.

A:  It depends on the size staples you purchase. Staples come in various lengths, so you will have to check which size you'll need when you see the specifications. It takes ARROW STAPLES T50, but I happened to have some Stanley staples on hand and they also worked for me.

A:  Staples are not loaded from behind as with other staplers. Pull out the tension rod, turn the stapler over *base up* and drop the staples in, then replace the rod and you'll be ready to go.

A:  Just pinch the end and pull it out to put the staples in and it will only hold one full load clip at a time don't try to add little partial ones use all the staples up before you put in more.

A:  You have to pinch the open/close mechanism with your thumb and index finger to open and close. That will lock and unlock it that mechanism in place so the staples do not fall out..

A:  The sliding bar is not supposed to go below the staples. It should come right against the staplers and push the staplers against the edge of the compartment. Press the end clip and then pull the sliding bar completely out. Install the staplers with the sharp point up into the chamber. Push the sliding bar forward until it click. Then you're ready to go. Test it with the first fire into a bag to make sure staplers are loaded correctly. If this doesn't work, maybe you should take it back to HD for a replacement.
