Q:How many coats of this product needs to be applied and what's the drying time between coats? Also, for 5 gallons, how many square foot does it cover for each coat?
    by|Apr 14, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  On porous surfaces such as brush finished concrete, two coats are usually required. A gallon often covers 100 square feet with two coats when applied with a cheap 2 or 3 gallon garden pump sprayer. On denser surfaces such as power troweled concrete or slate stone, you might only need one coat and a gallon could cover 300+ square feet. On very smooth/dense surfaces, it's a good idea to keep a thin microfiber pad on a broom pole to disburse the sealer if it puddles(to avoid dark spots).

Q:I had my handyman apply 2 coats in hte areas that will get stained. it darkened and browned those areas. will that A: lessen over time, B: not so much.. C: is there anything I can do about it? like use xylene?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Mike! The Armor SX5000 WB is a penetrating water repellent sealer that works entirely below the surface, and won't change the look or color of the concrete. If dark spots are appearing, that would have to be a case of either 1) extreme over application, or 2) application over another sealer or coating that prevented the SX5000 WB from properly absorbing. If brown stains are appearing on your concrete, there would have to be something else present on your concrete causing brown tinted stains. It could be a cleaner that was used, a contaminant, or another sealer. If you could please give us a call, we can help you figure out the cause of the stains, and how to remove them.

Q:Can this be rolled on or does it have to be sprayed?
        by|Mar 8, 2024

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Jeff! We prefer a sprayer simply because when you use a roller, the application is very inconsistent. The material is so thin, it's like trying to roll water over the surface. Because of how thin it is, you can't really ensure the surface is evenly or properly saturated. The SX5000 WB is water based however so just about any pump garden sprayer will work. If you would like to try the sprayer route and need help with sprayer selection, feel free to give us a call and we can make a few suggestions. If you absolutely don't want to use a sprayer and decide to use a roller, I would suggest applying it to a small test area first so you can get a feel of how best to apply it to stay within the coverage suggestions. If you call in and talk to our technicians and explain to them you aren't comfortable with using a sprayer, they can give you a few application pointers. Please let us know if you need any more help!

Q:After completely drying can I apply a skim coat of stucco or concrete on exposed areas? Will it allow adhesion of stucco or concrete?

          Answer This Question

A:  The SX5000WB is silicone based and could cause a bonding issue for stucco or concrete. It's best to apply the SX5000WB over the final skim coat.

            Q:Will it darken my walkways

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Nick, the SX5000 WB won't change the look or color. Your walkway will look exactly as it did before being sealed. If you want a color enhancement, you need something like our WL550, AR350, or AR500. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

Q:I have concrete paver around my swimming pool. The pavers were sealed with Techniseal "Color Boost" about five years ago. Would you recommend SX5000WB or SX5000 oil base. Which product will give me the longest sealant life?
              by|Feb 7, 2024
              1 Answer
              Answer This Question

A:  After five years, it probable that some of the Techniseal Color Boost product is still present on or within the pavers. Techniseal does not adequately display the active ingredients for their product on their safety data sheet. They do mention that it's water based but that doesn't help determine what's compatible with Color Boost. If a water based formula gives a color enhancement, it could contain urethane which would be incompatible with Armor products. You may want to contact Techniseal to see if they can elaborate more on what's compatible with the Color Boost or at least how to strip it off before applying a different type of sealer.

Q:I sealed my drive way about five years ago using Techniseal "Color Boost" which is a water based sealant. Which product do you think would work best SX5000WD or SX5000 oil based? Will either of the SX5000 add color to my faded concrete pavers?
