A:  Hello Iris. Thank you for reaching out to us about refrigerator water filter RPWFE. It is not an in-line water filter. Here is link for water filter RPWFE. https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Refrigerator-Water-Filter-RPWFE/205601633?NCNI-5 -- Stay healthy and safe. Geoff@GEA

Q:The filter will serve a coffee machine that has little water usage -- less than 1 gal. per day. Its main purpose is to remove any occasional sediment and protect the machine (the water quality is good without the filter). In that case, is it necessary to replace the filter every 6 months or can it last longer?

          Answer This Question

A:  yes I think its either sealed with caps or plastic

          by|Aug 17, 2022

A:  The filter was in bubble packaging (see the clear top of the packaging on HD's description), so I would say it was sealed. However, since I bought the filter a couple months ago, I suggest you call GE's customer service to verify. I found this number on GE's Customer Care website: 1-877-959-8688.

Q:I have hard water and my home does not have a soft water system. Can I install this filter onto a new fridge even though the fridge already has a filter? Will this affect the pressure going to the fridge?

                  Answer This Question

A:  Hi Al - Thanks for choosing GE! While this is designed for refrigerators without built-in filtration, Model # GXRTDR can be installed on a refrigerator with a built-in filtration system. It will not affect the pressure. This easily attaches directly to existing refrigerator/icemaker water line. Filter should be replaced every six months for best filtration results. Keep in touch! Sue

                  by|Apr 8, 2020

A:  You can install it in addition to the other filter, however it wont result in soft water. It will simply act as a pre filter to the one in the fridge. It shouldn't have much of an effect on the pressure, if any, you will notice a drop in pressure though when the filter needs changing. Changing this one is probably cheaper than changing the one in the fridge... which should last much longer than the one you're adding. You may want to check on an electronic water conditioner sold at Home Depot, It may seem a little pricey at first but there's no filters to replace and uses no salt as with a traditional water softener.

                    by|Sep 10, 2019

A:  Yes, as long as the supply line is the proper size. 1/4" diameter and you will probably need to cut off the ends of the supply line leading to the GXRTQ. This filter accepts the plain ends of the supply line, no fittings.

A:  No. The GSWF removes chlorine, odor, lead, cysts, and turbidity. The GXRTDR only removes chlorine and odor. If you need lead, etc removal there are inline filters that will do this (more costly but still less than the ones that go into the refrigerator).
