A: The doorbell requires either connection to a transformer or 3 1.5V "C" cell batteries. I connected mmine to an existing transformer from the doorbell I was replacing.

A: Yes. This isn't battery powered.
All doorbells use a low voltage transformer unless they are battery powered.
The chimes are programmable (there are several different chimes in this doorbell).
Hence electronic chimes.

Q:We have mounted this doorbell on the wall and snapped on the cover. However, we cannot figure out how to get cover off if we need to change anything. Doorbell works just fine now. Does anyone know how to get chime cover off?

A: Hello,
The cover should just come off by pulling straight out on it to unsnap it.

A: It is a little tricky. If you push up on the cover while watching that the base stays in place, pull out at the bottom. So, lift and pull out at the bottom. If the unit isn’t mounted firm on the wall, you probably won’t get the cover off without taking the whole assembly off the wall. Inside the cover, there is a tab located on the top and bottom that snap into slots on the base. When you are pushing up on the cover, you are releasing the bottom tab from the base. Once you do it, it’s pretty simple. I hope this helps

A: Is that a question? As in is this normal operation? No, it's not. But it's a junk doorbell. Expect there will be defective units. Return it for a credit and replace your old doorbell which is probably a hundred times better.

Q:Transformer Voltage / Inconsistent Instructions - The installation instructions mention in several places that a 16 volt transformer is needed for the wired option. But in the troubleshooting section, pages 8 & 9, the very same manual says the transformer should be replaced if it's producing less than 18 volts, that 18 to 22 volts is required. So which is it really, 16, 18, or something higher? What is the actual acceptable voltage range? Can I just connect to the 24 volt thermostat power supply already in my furnace instead of using a second dedicated transformer just for the doorbell?

Answer This Question
A: Manufacturer says the 16 volt transformer will actually produce between 18 and 22 volts, this is what a meter would show if you measure it with NO LOAD. When there is a load (somebody pushes the doorbell button) the voltage would be expected to drop to about 16 volts and stay there until the load is removed (chimes finish playing and shut off).

A: I suggest you contact manufacture for correct voltage information. If you was to proceed with the new installation start with 16 volt and if that doesn't work go 18 volt and see which voltage works best. There's multi voltage doorbell transformers available.
