A: Hello. On this alarm, the battery is preinstalled. To activate the battery, slide the alarm onto the bracket tightly and that should turn on the battery. Slide the alarm down over the mounting plate until it snaps into place. That should activate the alarm.

A: That’s a good question but I’m sure it will depend upon the recommended maintenance. Any brand/model will last longer and minimize false alarms by following the maintenance schedule and vacuuming the sensor regularly. Have you checked the manual that’s available online to see if the sensor is rated for 10 years? Otherwise I would contact the manufacturer. Best of luck.

A: Update. Look great a “ Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Detector”. They do make those. Kiddie and first alert make them.
by|Dec 4, 2022
A: No, it is a carbon monoxide detector not a propane detector.
by|Sep 27, 2022
A: This detector is designed to alert for carbon monoxide, which is a product of combustion. It's not designed to detect propane or natural gas.
by|Mar 8, 2022
A: Not an expert but all the natural gas and propane leak detector alarms I have seen are not CO detectors. Nor the other way, CO and Smoke detectors do not detect nat gas or propane. Different chemistry.
by|Aug 27, 2022
A: Hello. No. This alarm would alert you if the gas fireplace didn't burn correctly and there was carbon monoxide leaking into your house. For detection of propane gas, you would need an explosive gas detector.

A: yes, it detects smoke
by|Mar 1, 2022
A: Hello. No, this is not a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. It just a carbon monoxide alarm and does not detect smoke. You should still check with your state and local fire and Building/Safety codes for the installation of carbon monoxide alarms as well as the smoke alarms you are required to have in your home.

A: Same dimensions as not mounted. 4.5 x 3 x 1.5
by|Jan 12, 2022
A: Hello. When mounted, the alarm is 4.5 inches wise by 2.75 inches tall and 1.5 inches deep. CO alarms should be mounted in or near bedrooms and living areas. It is recommended that you install a Kidde CO alarm on each level of your home. When choosing your installation locations, make sure you can hear the alarm from all sleeping areas. If you install only one CO alarm in your home, install it near bedrooms, not in the basement or furnace room. Do not install in dead air spaces, such as peaks of vaulted ceilings or gabled roofs, where CO may not reach the sensor in time to provide early warning. Do not obstruct the vents located on the alarm. Do not place the alarm where drapes, furniture or other objects block the flow of air to the vents. Do not install in kitchens, garages or furnace rooms that may expose the sensor to substances that could damage or contaminate it. Do not install in areas where the temperature is colder than 0°C or hotter than 40°C such as crawl spaces, attics, porches and garages.

A: Hello. If the alarm is doing 4 quick beeps, a pause, 4 quick beeps, a pause, then that is a sign of carbon monoxide. You will want to investigate that. However, the following is a list of substances that at high levels can damage the sensor or cause temporary readings that are not CO readings: Ethylene, ethanol, alcohol, iso-propanol, benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. Also most aerosol sprays, alcohol based products, paint, thinner, solvent, adhesive, hair spray, after shave, perfume, auto exhaust (cold start) and some cleaning agents. If you are getting one chirp every 30 seconds then that could be an error mode meaning the alarm has detected something wrong with the sensor or electronics. If that is the case or if you have any further questions then please call us at Kidde Safety with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788.

Q:Can this lithium battery carbon monoxide detector be placed on the counter not the wall
and how do you test the battery?

Answer This Question
A: Hello. This alarm can be placed on a counter or table. The alarm itself tests the battery and if there ever is an issue with the battery in the 10 year life of the alarm and the battery, the alarm will chirp to let you know.
