A:  Thank you for your question. No, the DC18RC Optimum charger is designed to charge Makita 18V LXT batteries and we do not recommend using third-party batteries on a Makita charger.

    A:  It will charge ALL Makita 18V regardless of AH, charge time increases the more AH you charge.

              A:  Thankyou for your question on the 1840BDC1 18V LXT Lithium‑Ion Battery and Charger Starter Pack. After charging, remove the battery cartridge from charger and unplug the charger.

                A:  I always use this as you wrote and never find any defect. Possibly it cannot remain perfectly charged after leaving a few days but it works satisfactory.

                A:  "Thank you for your question. Yes, you can charge the following batteries on the (DC18RC). BL1820B , BL1830 ,BL1830B , BL1840B , BL1850B ,BL1840,BL1850,BL1820 BL1860B. The battery charger is for charging Makita-battery cartridge. Be sure to never use it for other purposes or for other manufacturer’s batteries."

                  A:  Any of the 18v LXT batteries will work with this charger. I have several 3aH, 4aH, & 5aH batteries - all of which charge fine .
