A:  Compared to my previous 10 year old fan it is very quiet. I literally have to open the hatch to the attic to hear it. In the room below I can not really tell if it is on or not, unless I actually open the ceiling attic hatchway. Hope this helps you.

                            Answer This Question

A:  Attic ventilation is both Intake Air and Exhaust Air. You should never have more Exhaust than Intake. Soffit Intake is preferred, this will circulate air from the bottom up. A:  Yes, you need air to come in and it does not matter how. Most attics have that at the soffit.

Q:How much flow is there when it's not turned on? I'm considering using it in a cottage with a pitched roof but no attic. Would not want there to be too much air escaping in the winter when the furnace is being run. Thanks!

                                Answer This Question

A:  This fans opening is 14.5 inches Round. That is the size hole you need to cut in the Roof for proper ventilation for this fan. I'll attach a picture below so you can see what it looks like from inside. But to answer your concern, You will lose way too much heat if you don't have a way to seal off this fans massive 14.5 inch hole in your Roof and you'll also want the Service disconnect switch where you can reach it so you could turn it off in the winter, if not, it would kick on and suck all the heat right outside due to the built on thermostat.

A:  Depending on fan unit, 16" to 19" cut out hole. Air flow is the same as ridge vent ventilation. There is minimal air circulation increase as you haven't changed soffit vents.

A:  If you mount it up on the highest area of the house, it will naturally provide ventilation/circulation flow even when the motor is off. When we first installed it, we could feel a force of air heading out from under the fan cover before we even wired it in. Naturally you would need to ensure you have an appropriate amount of vent area in the eves to create a natural flow.
