A: Of course it's preferable to mix it with the soil when potting the plant, but a small amount can be added afterward, by poking numerous small holes, and putting just a pinch of these crystals in the holes.They expand a LOT, so a tiny amount is all that's necessary.

A: It is better if you can sprinkle it in the bottom dirt, but it will still work if you dig out some of the top dirt in the pots and sprinkle a little, then recover it with dirt.

A: Miracle-Gro Water-Storing Crystals can be added to already potted plants. Make several holes in the soil (with a stick or a pencil) evenly spaced around the plant. Avoid the root area. Incorporate Miracle-Gro Water Storing Crystals evenly among the holes (amount to use will depend on container size). Cover holes with soil and water thoroughly.

A: It may not be officially listed as a use, but yes, I have done it and it works just fine. Note: it takes VERY LITTLE, as the particles swell a LOT.
