A: Hi Gary, our area drains can only be secured with adhesive, waterproof silicone, or having a tight connection (drop-in). not sure what the installer used, but it sounds like concrete was poured around the grate and the concrete might just be holding it in place. If you have a rod with handle and a j-hook on the end the tool will help removing it. Just be careful not to damage the grate. I hope this helps.

A: Hi Ftmagician, the plastic round grate is a drop-in fit, no screws are required. The grate is secured in place when the correct pipe is used. For a superior connection make use to use 4" SDR 35 pipe and insert the grate on the bell-end of the pipe if there is not bell-end use 4P05 - 4" coupling fitting (HUB x HUB)

Answer This Question
A: Good evening, yes, assuming this is a typical single/dual wall corrugated pipe, the grate will slip right into the pipe.
You can see it on the Home Depot site for this part (copy and paste into browser - its the 5th image down) https://www.homedepot.com/p/NDS-4-in-Plastic-Round-Drainage-Grate-in-Black-11/100377398

Q:One of the drains in my concrete patio lost its cover. It looked like this but was aluminum I think, with two screws. The hole in the concrete is 3 1/2 inches in diameter although the pipe below the surface is narrower. Will this grate cover replace it and fit well?

A: You never know how things will fit until you try them. That's why HD has a generous return policy.

Q:Dr. Drainage, you say that it will be very loose unless I use a coupler; I have ordered the cloth wrap, and I'm wondering if I cut a square of that to place between the drywell and the grate if that wouldn't cure the looseness. I don't want debris sifting down into the below ground unit, and I'm thinking that some of that cloth that could be removed and rinsed from time to time might help. What are your thoughts on that?

Q:The contractor burried the Sch. 40 4" PVC pipe up to it's neck in concrete. The only access I have is the interior. Will this Grate fit inside the pipe, or not. Is there another product that would work better?
