        A:  Yes, by removing a lot of nuts and lock washers, or never installing the side rails. However you will not be able to lock the tail gate in a vertical position with out the two rear upright pieces installed.

          A:  Hi Sas, As long as the bearings are properly greased, all bolts are tightened and checked often, and tires are filled properly and checked, it should be able to make a 2000 mile trip.
