Q:Is it high enough off the ground to prevent termites?

Answer This Question
A: I doubt it. Since termites can construct dirt tubes from the ground leading to a source of wood (like on a house's foundation), no stand can be tall enough to prevent that. It IS tall enough that it should be readily evident if this is the case, and then you can take action. I put mine on bricks to level it, and also make it a bit much further from the ground and less tempting. I plan on checking it every few months, to make sure all's well, since as long as it is sitting on the ground, there's always a chance.

A: I would say yes. However, termites are capable of traveling up the legs, flying onto the wood, or dropping from a tree limb. With that said, mine has worked as advertised and held up very well. If memory serves I have had mine for about 5 years. No issues...

Q:Why is this item listed as "for outdoor use only?" I was considering something to use in my garage.

A: It sounds like an error in the item description. I have 5 of these in my shed, they're just tube steel. They're great wood racks, btw. Substantially more solid than many others I looked at.

A: Don't see why you couldn't, if you have enough room.
by|Nov 23, 2019
A: Problem with storing wood in the garage or next to the house (long term storage), you run the risk of termites or carpenter ants…. Good reason ‘for outdoor use only.’

A: It is outdoor only marked because it is not recommended to store wood inside.

A: Great question. I am not sure why. Maybe for the size of it. It is just made of metal. Great wood holder - works well. I don't see why you couldn't use it in your garage. Hope this helps.

A: Hello Mrr, because of the size of this unit and how much wood it can store, it would typically not be used indoors. However, you could use it in a garage if you want to. - GHP Group Customer Support
by|Nov 13, 2018
A: It will work fine in the garage. Listed as "outdoor" because it is coated/painted and will last outdoors.
by|Feb 5, 2019
A: It will work inside or outside, I currently have it outside
by|Nov 12, 2018
A: You could put the rack in your garage, but the reason it is listed as outside only is that it is not recommended that you store wood inside.
by|Nov 13, 2018
A: My guess is that the company doesn’t want to get sued because someone stored a lot of wood in their home and it caused bug, rodent or reptile problems or was fuel for a fire.

A: The racks legs are 6"off the ground. It's a awesome rack and you could easily raise it with bricks
by|Jun 15, 2017
A: you will need to but cement blocks (2x16x8) under the legs to get your 12 inches.
by|Feb 5, 2019
A: Just measured it and the top of the bottom tube (where the wood would sit) is 10 inches off the ground. Personally, I'd get 6 pavers, which are a shade over 2 inches tall, and put one under each post. You'd be just over 12 inches.

A: The height off the ground is about 9" from the ground I placed the rack on 3 -8" cement blocks and it raised it to about 17" off the ground. Our city used to have it 18" down to 9" off the ground last year.
