Q:I had my brake system flushed with BG Dot4 fluid, with this in it: 2-[2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethoxy]ethanol. My old car can use Dot3 fluid. Will this Prestone brake fluid be compatible with the BG Dot4 fluid, if I add a few ounces to the receptacle to fill?

A: Fully Compatible, That chemical is a Glycol Ether and all DOT 3 and DOT 4 have some amount of Glycol Ethers in them.

Q:This does not have to be replaced every 2 years? Only every 50,000 miles? That can take 12 years to drive that many miles on our car.

A: If your car's scheduled maintenance says ever 2 years, then that is what you should go with. Brake fluid will absorb moisture and corrode your brake components over time. That's why when you bleed your brakes, it comes out cloudy.
