Q:Can I apply the base coat and then just paint it the color that I want, instead of doing a decorative 1/8” coat? My house has a thick stucco that is an uneven Spanish style and I want to smooth it out and then paint it

A:  The Quikrete Base Coat Stucco 80 lb. Can be used without a decorative coat and painted over. We suggest allowing 7 days of curing for Water base products, 28 days full cure for oil base or epoxy products.

    A:  QUIKRETE® Concrete Bonding Adhesive should not be mixed in with QUIKRETE stucco products. Only potable water should be used.

      A:  QUIKRETE® Base Coat Stucco can be used for all three coats in a 3-coat system. Base Coat Stucco is not recommended for the finish coat as it does not contain enough paste or coarse aggregate to texture properly.

        A:  QUIKRETE® Base Coat Stucco is not designed to be placed directly over EPS. We recommend QUIKRETE® Foam Coating, which has been designed specifically for this application.

            A:  Exterior plasters are not water barriers. QUIKRETE® Base Coat Stucco is made with hydraulic cement, so exposure to water once it has hardened will improve its’ curing.

              A:  An 80 lb (36.2 kg) bag of QUIKRETE® Scratch and Brown Base Coat Stucco will yield approximately 0.75 ft3 (21 L) at the recommended consistency. QUIKRETE® Scratch and Brown Base Coat Stucco will cover 20 ft2 to 24 ft2 (1.8 m2 to 2.2 m2) when placed at 3/8 inch (9.5 mm).

                A:  QUIKRETE Base Coat Stucco can be expected to be usable for a year from manufacture when stored appropriately and kept dry. As long as the product is kept dry, there is no finite shelf life.
