Q:Does the drain have to be staked down with soil install.

A: Hi beginner:
If you intend to install the RELN channel drains in a lawn/soft-scape application with no vehicle traffic, my suggestion would be to secure the RELN SD channel lengths into the ground by using part 003103 Channel Drain Stake Kit. This kit is an ideal install method for soil applications. You can then backfill and finish with your recommend top coat. For long runs, I would also recommend purchasing the RELN SD Joiner kit (part 003005). This kit joins 2 x channel lengths together for additional strength and integrity.
Ensuring that the channel lengths are secure to a soild base will provide adequate operation of the drains.

Q:I'd like to use this on a very wide driveway/garage (approximately 30 feet) and wondered if the sections can be joined together. Some drain products have specific cap and end sections. Could I buy 3 of these packs and join them all together?

A: Hi Rainsallday,
You certainly can. Our channel lengths are designed to interlock into each other to create the desired length. For additional strength and integrity, I would suggestion purchasing the RELN Storm Drain 2 PK joiner kit (part 003005). 1 x pack will join two 40" sections together, just as a reference.

Q:I see that you have given instructions to embed this drain into concrete in order to drive over it. My question is, what about for use in a pavestone driveway? Do you have a different drain system available for that application? I want my pavestones to run right up to the edge of the drain without the use of visible concrete on the surface. Is that an option?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Jay,
You certainly can...encase the RELN Channel Drain in concrete, minimum of 4 inches in width. Ensure concrete is consolidated around the channel to eliminate any air pockets. Secure pavers adjacent to the RELN channel in high strength mortar, this will only expose the pavestones and not the concrete as the concrete is required as a foundation base for the pavers to adhere to.

A: Does this also go for installing corrugated piping on both ends?
by|Mar 3, 2022
A: Hi Vinny
Yes, the RELN channel drains can be cut at the desired length. A Storm Drain End Cap with it’s pressure tabs can be inserted on the cut end to hold in place to cap off the section. Silicone can be added to create a water tight seal between the connection points.

A: It's not sealed at the ends. That is how water gets through it.

Q:Do you need to bury below frost line to avoid heaving concrete?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Andy,
Storm Drain Channel section is formwork for concrete.
It comes back to the design of the concrete. If the concrete shifts due to frost the channel sections will shift with it. My recommendation would be to ensure adequate installation so that the concrete will not fail.
If the concrete does not fail then Stormdrain won’t fail.

Q:Instructions say you can use a hacksaw to cut to fit odd lengths. But when that is done there is no "lip" to engage with any mating parts. If I cut to length to mate with a 90 deg. corner how am I supposed to "snap" the parts together?

A: Hello,
To ensure a secure connection point I would recommend the following:
1. Place the corner fitting in the channel section
2. Drill a pilot hole (that would accommodate a #6 and/or #8 screw) through the fitting’s pressure tabs and into the channel drain section
3. Apply outdoor base silicone in the hole
4. Insert the screw through the hole, securing the fitting tabs to the channel drain section
Optional:
5. Apply silicone (inside channel) around the fitting, sealing the section

Q:How do I install the end cap? The channel drain has only one end where I can slide the end cap to.
by|Jun 2, 2019

Answer This Question
A: Hi Ash,
The end cap can be installed on the opposite end of the Storm Drain channel length by 1.) sealing end cap to the Channel with silicone or 2.) apply screws into the moulded pressure tabs to the channel (pilot hole should be pre-filled with silicone and then insert the required screw) for secure connection. For any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us.
Many thanks
