Questions & Answers

If you use this controller as a 24 volt system 24 volt battery, 24 volt solar panel is there a 12 volt load output on this controller?

Answer This Question

Hello FJR, Thank you for reaching out and for your technical questions. Please note that the load terminals on the charge controller will be a direct reflection of the battery bank voltage. In other words, if you have a 24-volt battery bank, the charge controller will output 24-volts at the load terminals. Please contact us with any other questions, have a great day.

What size wire am I limited to from the solar panel?

    Answer This Question

Hello CB, We would recommend connecting your solar panels in series and the higher voltage would minimize the wire gauge required between the charge controller and the solar panel. We would recommend using 10-AWG wire, please contact us if you have any other questions, have a wonderful day.

Can two of these be connected in order to charge a single battery bank? Is it even possible to charge a single bank with two of these, and would they even need to be connected or communicate with each other?

        Answer This Question

Hello Braden, We would not recommend using two 40-amp charge controllers on the same battery bank as they cannot communicate with each other and this may result in one of the units reducing charging current prematurely. Please contact us if you have any other questions, have a wonderful day.

Has anyone else had issues with this unit cycling on/off and showing an "ACR" message on screen? Have tried rebooting.

              Answer This Question

Hello Nate, Thank you for reaching out to us and choosing Renogy. We see the ACR message on the screen when the charge controller is trying to activate a Lithium battery from the lockout stage. This ACR message may also appear if the charge controller does not detect any voltage or extremely low voltage on the battery terminals. We would recommend reaching out to us and we can assist with troubleshooting your charge controller.

Bought the 40 Amp MPPT Rover controller and need to know more info on the (optional) "load" feature of this unit. The very vague instruction manual lists what NOT to connect the two terminals to, but nowhere does it say what TO connect them to, or what this function really does. Is it solely informational, or does it perform some regulatory purpose, or both? Perhaps including a sample block/schematic connection diagram would be useful in this respect.

                Answer This Question

Hello Howie, You will be able to use anything on that load terminal as long as it is the same voltage as the battery and under 20a. The load terminal is essentially a shortcut to the battery terminals but with a 20a limit. Most customers I have talked to use the load terminal attached to a string of lights if their controller needs some lighting or a fan if the fan is under the rated amperage/voltage. The load terminal will regulate based on a timer set by the load mode and if the panels are getting voltage. For example, if the load is set to 0 the load terminal will turn on when the sun goes down and turn off when the sun comes up.

Hello Howie, Thank you for your question and your feedback. Please note the load terminals are completely optional and are available to connect a 12-volt load directly to your charge controller. You may also use the load terminals to run the respective load on a timer. The load terminal is rated at 20-amps Maximum. Please contact us if you have any other questions or concerns, have a wonderful day.

Does this come with a RJ12 to USB serial cable? In the photos it looks like it includes the cable so I can query the charge controller from my pc.
