A: I am not sure what kind of pipe you are using. Usually gas lines are measured by the inside diameter of the opening. Sizes are usually 1/2", 3/4", 1". It sounds like you may have a 1/2" line there, which would need a 1/2" union. Just keep in mind that unions should always be exposed so you have access to them.
