Q:We have a water well with a pump out in a small shed in the yard. Can this be hooked up in the well house? Near the pressure tank?

Answer This Question

A:  Yes Kellie, it can be installed in the pump house as long as you have electric running there. You would install after the pump and install will take you less than 20 minutes.

A:  Hi, I have the same situation, I almost thought I wrote your question before I picked this product out. To answer your question, "Yes" I have mine set up on the PVC pipes that come off of the pressure tanks heading towards the house. You could set it up before the tanks, but for me I only had room in a spot where the water comes out from the tank. My house is so small and old I didn't even have room in my house where the water goes into the water heater! And I can't access the pipes under the house either. My tanks are in a small cinder block house in my yard too. I hope this answer helps!

A:  Yes, over time the Scalewatcher treated water will break down the calcium build up. You will see that the hard scale becomes softer and easier to remove.

A:  Hi, Yes it should, if you are using water that has been treated by this system, the minerals should be in solution, and easily wiped away, rather than making a hard crust.

Q:Will this specific unit work effectively for a 3 bath, 4 member household on well water?

      Answer This Question

A:  If you look on their site they describe the product series, based on water usage. So you can choose the appropriate model.

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  It will work on any water pipe supply lines regardless of the volume of water. It magnetizes the water as it passes through the pipes.

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, The manual recommends that if your water consumption is high, to wrap the coil an additional 10-20 times or more to increase treatment time. The exact number is not important, a longer coil provides a longer treatment time increasing the performance of the Scalewatcher treatment. I hope that helps!

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  If it is a full 3 baths, I would highly suggest stepping up to the Scalewatcher 4 Star. The 3 Star will effectively descale over time, but the 4 Star would give faster results with well water.

      Q:How does it remove rust?
      by|Dec 15, 2017

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes, by breaking down the calcium molecules and allowing them to go down the drain, rust stains will diminish.

A:  Scalewatcher creates a cathode reaction with red rust and converts it to a fine layer of magnetite which will prevent further oxidation of the pipes and eliminates rust stains.

A:  Hi, I think it removes hard water scaling which causes rust, by putting minerals into solution so that they do not cause scaling. I hope that helps.

Q:Does this work on incoming supply lines where shark bits have been used? Can I wrap the coil over this exposed pipe? Thanks
      by|Dec 14, 2017

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes sir Josh, the coil can be used on piping that has shark bits as connectors. You would simply wrap the coil on the piping and not the connections. As most coil installs only take about 3" of pipe, the picture you show would be an area where you could install the coil.

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  I believe so, you need enough space to wrap the coil 20 times or more. The more you can wrap it, the faster it will descale all the existing scale. The minimum is 20 wraps. From the manual: If water consumption is high, they advise wrapping another 10 or 20 times to increase treatment time. A longer coil provides a longer treatment time of the water increasing the performance of the system. Works on copper, PVC, steel, galvanized, lead, and fiber-cement. When the option is available, wrap coil on PVC, as the electric fields will be more effective in plastic than in metals.

Q:Should this be installed in upstream or downstream from a whole house cartridge water filter?
      by|Dec 7, 2017

      Answer This Question

A:  I know it says to install it upstream from a water softener. They don't specifically mention whole house filters. I think either before or after would be OK. But you can contact the company if you'd like to know for sure. They have a very helpful customer service department.

      by|Jan 19, 2021

A:  Your Scalewatcher should be installed upstream (before) the whole house cartridge water filter. This will help your filter media last longer as the calcium particles will not clog it as quickly. Most people say that they get twice the media usage as before.

A:  Your Scalewatcher should always be installed upstream from any filtration units. This will help keep your filtration media free from scale build up allowing it to better filter out minerals without clogging. Scalewatcher can help extend the life of your filtration systems while cleaning existing scale from your system.

Q:How and where is it installed?
          by|Sep 29, 2017

          Answer This Question

A:  You would install your Scalewatcher coil at the threshold where the water comes into your home and before it splits hot and cold. You want to treat all of the water coming into your home. Simply wrap the supplied cable that comes with the unit around the main water pipe. As per the instructions, you will wrap 20 times, tie off and come back with an additional 20 wraps over the first wraps. Mount the unit on the wall, connect the coil wire to the unit and plug it in.

A:  it can be installed any where that is protected from the outside elements. Mine is in my pump house where the water comes out from the pressure tanks. Manual says: Locate the incoming water supply and if possible find a straight length of pipe after the water meter (if any) of at least four inches. The pipe can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. You can also contact the company with any questions you have. They have a very knowledgable customer service department.
