While I have not FELT a significant difference, it appears to be working. I can only expect that over time I will, according to the directions, see and feel a more noticeable difference. Installation was straightforward. No issues.

Well, I think this may be my least helpful review to date. I ordered this (for free, to review), not really understanding hard water and scale. I had been seeing rust spots on our knives in the dishwasher and assumed that it meant I had iron in my water. I can easily remove the rust, but it keeps coming back on the flat utensils. Before installing it I ordered a water test kit and discovered that I actually have very little total hardness. I really don’t know that much about water characteristics. I installed the product and can’t really say that I see a difference. The test strips produce the same hardness color as before. After some more reading I believe this is to be expected because this product doesn’t remove hardness at all. It simply treats water passing through the pipe with a fancy magnetic pulsing field. This breaks up the hard compounds, which are then temporarily suspended in the water, instead of being bonded together. It also temporarily prevents these compounds from bonding with your pipes. The final claim is that the treated water will actually reduce existing scale deposits inside the plumbing and around faucets and drains. I don’t have scale buildup, so I can’t test that. I can say that the build quality of the unit is fantastic and installation is quite simple. The instructions are easy to follow. Should take you less than half an hour. I’m going to leave it running for the time being, but I’m not convinced I will benefit from it. See installation photos.

This Scalewatcher is a good idea for preserving the longevity of the water system in the house as well as softening the water. This is the three star model. There are also four star and five star models available. Installation was pretty simple. This wire is wrapped on the water main. The water main for me was not in a easy spot, so I chose a section in the open ceiling near an electrical outlet. The most tedious part was the wire wrapping. After using a cable tie (six included), to fasten it in the center of the wire, one end needed to be wrapped for at minimum of twenty turns. I did about thirty. Then went back over the thirty with the wire winding around the pipe in the opposite way. Cable tied both ends. Then the control box was easily mounted on the plywood wall with included long screws. I shortened the excess wire, stripped off a little at each end and attached them to the control box. All that was left to do was attach the ac/dc switching power supply, add the cord and plug it in. Once the descaling starts, there could be white powder running through the pipes which may not be seen but could coat dishes and such. It is a good idea to drain some water from the water heater and run water through faucets daily. In the long run, it allows for less running cost for the water heater. It descales gradually over a period of about three months. If you do not already have a water softening system, this will soften the water without all the hassle of that type of system. I like the idea of getting softer water, softer skin, less soap scum, and reducing soap usage while getting more lather.

This Scalewatcher is a great idea, no salt goes in our water systems or ingested in our bodies. Its not very big to mount on the wall near your main water supply. Very easy to install, works with any type of pipe. I like the facts that this Scalewatcher will help keep hard water spots and soap scum off my stainless steel back splash in my kitchen. I called customer support to make sure I had could install the cable slightly underground at my water main. She was nice, professional and extremely familiar with this product. Her answer was yes. Once you get started with the cable wrap (of 20x’s each way) the pictures make more since. I definitely recommend this product for many years of hassle free water. A Pure clarity mirror.

I was initially skeptical of the ability of a relatively weak magnetic field to replace a big water softener system. I would say that it can't fully replace a traditional water softener system if you have really hard water, but this is a great way to augment its ability to soften your water for sure. Installation is very simple - wrap the included wire around your incoming water line as directed in the instructions (PVC or PEX preferred to allow the best effectiveness of the generated magnetic field), plug the wire ends in to the unit, mount and plug the unit into an AC outlet, and you're done. It took about 20 minutes because I was working in a cramped space, likely would take less time in a roomier area. The unit has a number of status LEDs to let you know it's working, and you can also see results in the descaling of your existing fixtures.

ScaleWatcher 3 ...
ScaleWatcher 3 This is a really good water treatment system. It comes nicely packaged with everything you need to do the install including anchors and plastic ties. This device treats the water coming into the house by passing the water through an electric coil. It is suppose to: - Prevent further hard-scale buildup - Remove existing scale that is inside your pipes - Soften existing hard scale around taps and basins - Reduce soap scum and improve soap lather - Make the water feel softer - Reduce the harsh effects of hard water on skin and clothes If you have an incoming water pipe that is accessible and an electrical plug nearby this is very easy to install. We happen to have a loop where a water softener was installed in the garage that was easily accessible. I followed the directions for wrapping the coil, they recommend a minimum of 20 wraps and I was able to double that. I mounted the control panel on the wall about 18 inches from the coil, plugged in the coil wires and the ac adapter, the lights came on and the unit was functioning. Probably took me less than 30 minutes. Determining how well this works is very subjective. Does your skin feel better? Does your hair feel better? You should see a lessening of hard water deposits around your faucets and drains. Depending on how much buildup you have in your pipes it could take quite awhile until you see or feel the results. We have only had this installed a few weeks but it does seem to be doing a good job on skin and hair, the hard water buildup will take longer to determine. So far we are happy with the device. Pros Easy hookup Looks good No ongoing costs Cons Results will take time
