Q:Which fitting would I need to go from 3/4 inch STEEL line to 1/2 pex. IF there is not one, what combination fittings could I use?

Answer This Question
A: You would have to use either a 3/4" male or female threaded adapter fitting (depending on the end of the steel pipe), install a short piece of 3/4" PEX pipe on the push fitting side, then use our SharkBite 3/4"x1/2" reducing coupling and then install your 1/2" PEX pipe. A: Get a shark bite with a reducer they should have them available. If not used to standard SharkBite and then just put a stub with a reducer attached to it

Q:Can these connectors be used behind walls

Answer This Question
A: They are certified to be used behind walls without access panels.

A: I would indeed use these connectors inside a wall, BUT I would check them for leaks first, before closing up the wall. The first time I used one there was a small burr that I missed and the connection dripped, so I had to take it apart and remove the burr, and there was no more dripping. And once I used a 3/4 inch fitting on top of a water heater and did not seat it fully. When the pressure built up suddenly it leaked a whole lot. I pushed it in correctly and no more leak, and that was 2 years ago. So, just like any plumbing, pressure check for leaks before closing up the wall. If you did it right it will never leak.

A: SharkBite push-fit fittings are certified for use within a concealed wall, but consulting with local plumbing codes is recommended for specific applications. It is also recommended to pressure test the system prior to sealing up the wall.

A: Yes, this is no different than any other connector. However, any connector behind a wall has limited access.

Q:what fitting would you need to go from 3/4 copper to 3/4 pex

Answer This Question
A: Any of our standard SharkBite 3/4" push fittings. Copper and PEX are both CTS (copper tube size) pipes, so they are compatible. You don't need one of our specialty fittings. The one you referenced is for going from Schedule 40 PVC to PEX, copper or CPVC. If you have any more questions, please contact our Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

A: Just a. 3/4 x 3/4 shark bite coupling.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Easiest would be a push to connect coupling. Pex is same exterior dimensions as copper and the fitting will have a tube stiffener built into it to prevent pex from deforming and losing seal.

A: They sell a release tool for about $2
by|May 5, 2023
A: They sell removal tools, i bought one for each size pipe. They are not expensive in my opinion so i bough all 4 sizes. They look like the letter C and go over the pipe and you push into the shark bite to release it.
by|May 5, 2023
A: There is a tool made for releasing them that allows you to press in on the plastic part that is around the pipe. I have also used an adjustable wrench snug around the pipe to push the plastic sleeve into the fitting and release the pipe. You do need to turn off and release the pressure to get it to release. OR, you can purchase the release tool at Home Depot.

Q:What fitting would work for 1/2" pex to 1/2" copper since the have different OD?

Answer This Question
A: Yes, these coupling are made to connect dissimilar pipe. However, I suggest that you get someone at your local store to assist you in making the correct choice of fittings for your job specs.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Deciding which fitting to use requires a careful study of the label. This fitting WILL NOT work connecting to copper pipe. It is for connecting to Copper TUBE sized tubing, which is different than copper PIPE sized. You may need to get help from a sales associate to locate the correct size. But when you do get the correct size it will work very well.

A: 1/2" PEX and Copper have the same OD, you would need model # U008LFA to go from 1/2" Copper to 1/2" PEX. Thanks for your interest in our products!
by|May 3, 2023
A: actually 1/2 inch L copper and 1/2 inch pex are exactly the same OD so a simple shart bite 1/2 to 1/2 coupler works great. Both pipes are .625 inches OD.

Q:Do you make a connection fitting that goes from half inch PEX to 3/8 polyethylene tubing for an R/O system?
by|Jun 4, 2016

Answer This Question
A: I don't make these, I am a person able to answer questions correctly. I have not seen a connector for polyethylene tubing, it may not be strong enough for the sharkBite teeth to hold on to. Check the Reliance Worldwide website for a complete size listing.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Tracy we do not make a 1/2" x 3/8" Polyethylene tubing. However a solution would be our 1/2" x 1/4" (3/8" OD) coupling used with our 1/4" (3/8" OD) PEX Pipe (Same as 3/8 Polyethylene, but PEX). The Fitting model # is U050LFA and the tubing model # is U850W5, you can search for both of these parts on Home Depot.com and that should be what you need to complete your install on your R/O system, if you have additional questions give us a call at 1-877-700-4242 and we will be happy to assist.
