Q:What length 2 x 4 are needed to hole a full cord of wood?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mary, The length for this bracket kit is adjustable but the height is stationary. Thus, there is no maximum length between brackets. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-932-9344. Thank you

by|Oct 19, 2022

A:  At 15” wide this is probably designed to hold 16”+ pieces. A cord is 8’ long by 4’ wide by 4’ tall. If your brackets were spaced 8’ apart stacked 4” high with 16” pieces (pretty common bought size) you would have what’s called a face cord ~ 1/3 of a cord

A:  You can stake it down so it doesn’t tip over as easily.

A:  Hello, Thank you for your question. That is the innovative design to firmly fit a 2x4 lumber for a sturdier rack construction and how the molds were created. The second hole does not require or need lumber as its simply there because that's how it was designed. If you have any other questions or wish to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-932-9344. Thank you

A:  I purchased mine a few years ago and they came as a pair. Still work great!

            by|Apr 6, 2021

A:  They come in pairs. I use 4 (2 boxes) to make a square and place 3 squares side by side so I can tarp over the stacked wood.

A:  Yes, these are sold as a pair.

A:  Yes. Some trimming may be needed on some treated 2 x 4's depending on how "wet" they are. I have made several racks with these brackets and they work great and are sturdy.

A:  They did for me. I used treated 2x4s because they would be setting directly on the ground and I haven't had any problems. Things slid together easily and I've been very happy with the racks.

A:  We split and stack 3-1/2 cords of firewood each year. We have several sets of these brackets. We use fully treated 2"x4" 's for both the horizontal 'base' and the 4 vertical posts when building each rack. A quick sanding - right where the treated 2"x4" 's fit into the brackets (about the last 4" on all four sides) - with a palm sander and 80 grit sandpaper will make them the correct size for a proper fit. Since the treated 2"x4" 's are reused every year, this procedure only has to be done once! These brackets work great and are a real 5 star product! Hope this helps you.

A:  Yes, I would assume that any 2x4's would work whether pressure treated or not. If using in an area that has no concrete i would suggest using 12" concrete pavers under each corner for stability. We have been using for several seasons now and they work great!

A:  Yes but be prepared to shave off a little of the end of the 2x4 if your lumber is particularly wet from treatment. Try to select light feeling 2x4's as they tend to be drier and closer to the correct size.

Q:I will be using only one bracket per row of wood. It will be on the lower end of the row and will be stacked to four feet high. My concern is, if the bracket fails, and the four foot 2 X 4 falls over, I will lose quite a bit of wood over the bank. I'm currently using steel brackets that have served me well over the years. But the vertical brace, once loaded, is at a rather severe angle. I'm concerned that this plastic style of brace won't be able to handle the load. Is there a weight limit to these. Thank you.

A:  I have several sets of these, and I would recommend they only be used on very close to level areas. They would be great, for example, on a deck or on a poured concrete floor. I use them in the house on a wood floor in the winter for temporary storage. If I were going to attempt to do what you suggest, I would go with metal brackets, or at least, at a minimum, put a diagonal brace or two on the lower end against your 2x4s. It would require more wood, but could be easily built, though not the neatest looking thing in the world.

A:  I'm just a customer and can't speak about specific weight limits but I have used the metal brackets you mention. These plastic brackets don't seem to have that problem and is why I decided to try them over the metal ones which I have used also. These brackets seem quite strong and the only thing I can see happening is UV exposure over time weakening the plastic since it is made of ABS and that is typically not UV resistant unless it is manufactured specifically that way and the advertising does not specify.

A:  I suggest that you use a bracket at each end and tie the vertical posts together with either HEAVY nylon rope or box the 4 vertical posts with 2x4's. This will basically eliminate any chance of the plastic failing. I did not do this and one end failed.
