Q:Do I need to have a GFCI receptacle for my washing machine if I am using a Homeline combination AFCI breaker?
by|Jul 24, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Yes the washer has to be gfci protected. You can use a dual function AFCI/GFCI breaker or if you already have a combination AFCI breaker installed you will need a GFCI receptacle. The receptacle has to be readily accessible and not down behind the washer.

A: Hi,
CAFI breakers include the combination of both parallel and series arc fault protection, which helps to protect against fire hazards caused by arcing in damaged electrical wiring (UL1699 Combination AFCI). They have a white test button, so, if the washing machine needs to be gfi protection, yes you can include the GFI receptacle or Dual Function Breaker.
GFI breakers include 5 mA ground fault protection, which helps to protect people from being seriously injured if electricity should flow through their body to ground (UL943 Class A GFCI). They have a yellow test button.
DF breakers include the dual protection of both of the above, GFI and CAFI, in one device. They have a purple test button.
