Q:Why is it called the Homer bucket? Is it just a play on the Home Depot name?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Dawn, the old design had a little man in overalls whom they referred to as "Homer." They have since retired Homer, but all the references to him have been left behind. Just changing a name affects so much, it is easier to let alone.

Q:Can 5 gallon orange bucket be used to store bbq pellets
    by|Jan 6, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Chuck - Yes, I would think so. You want to make sure it is properly sealed and kept out of excessive heat and moisture. For a tight lid seal, I suggest checking out the screw-top lid (search #303808738). The maximum recommended lifting weight 84 lbs, so keep that in mind. I would think BBQ pellets would tend to be heavy.

Q:does this work for mikxing cement

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Stevie - Yes, the buckets will stand up to hand mixing cement. You should also be able to use the drill "beater-style" mixer. We don't suggest inserting them into any kind of mixer. Like, for instance, they don't hold up well in a paint mixer. You would want a heavier bucket for that type of machinery.

Q:How hot can it withstand temperatures? 200,210,220,230,240,250??? How hot can it withstand heat and pressure? I want to put it in an autoclave sterilizer.

        Answer This Question

A:  Will - I'm not sure how to answer your question. I don't know how much pressure it could stand. We don't do any type of testing for that. The buckets are tested to hold up to 88 pounds. We typically do not recommend storing anything that will result in a build-up of pressure, but outside pressure? Temperature-wise, the bucket is made of HDPE and can sustain short periods up to up to 230°F (110°C) although the walls will become somewhat flexible. It sounds like a sterilizer may be higher temps. I'm not sure a 5-gallon plastic bucket would make it through the process. Maybe check with the manufacturer of the sterilizer. They are probably better equipped to answer your question.

Q:Is there a line on the bucket that designates the 5 gallon mark.

          Answer This Question

A:  Timothy - there is no fill line on the buckets. They hold approximately 5.25 gallons when filled to the very top. You'll reach five gallons at about the second ring from the top lip. Note that that is an approximate measure.

A:  Hi LisaH - Home Depot changed their artwork from the "Let's Do This" to the double logo a few years ago. That is all the we are printing now. Sorry.

Q:Can this bucket be used to transfer #2 heating oil to a hazardous waste facility? Is there a cover with a removable cap for pouring out the liquid?

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello Dr. DM - Yes, you could use the Homer bucket for short-term storage and transport of oil. We do not sell a lid that has a spout, but another manufacture may sell something like that to Home Depot. You might want to check in the paint department. Our buckets are a standard 5-gallon size so most lids will fit.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Kanc: Our lids are sold separately so you can choose the lid that best suits your needs. Our bucket are a standard size so any 5-gallon lid should fit. We have three types of lids: "Easy-off" (search #723222) pushes on and off much like the lids on a deli container. "Heavy Duty Lids with Gasket" (#529776) provide a tighter seal and have a tear-tab to remove. "Screw-Top Lid" (#266050) is a two part design. A ring sits permanently on the lip of the bucket and the middle section screws on and off. You should be able to find something that fits your needs on homedepot.com.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Shelly, No, the orange Homer bucket is not considered food safe. Currently the only food safe bucket we have at Home Depot (search Item# 300197644) which is a 5-gallon white bucket. If a bucket is food safe, it will appear explicitly on a sticker with the label. Leaktite's food safe buckets have a sticker with a spoon, fork, and knife with the words "Food Grade Container - Safe for Use With Food."
