Q:What’s the difference between the dark walnut premium and dark walnut classic? Are the colors the same?

Answer This Question
A: We're happy to clear things up, Barry. While our Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Dark Walnut Wood Stain and Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Dark Walnut Wood Stain have the same color name the formulation of these stains are different. This will cause subtle differences in the color and will be noticeable if applied next to one another.

Q:Tape peeled finish of black cherry desk. See pic. Material does not appear to be real wood. Found Varathane spray stain, in Cherry. Does a spray stain exist for black cherry? If not, what would you recommend to repair? I can repaint the entire surface.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out, Larry, we're happy to help. Our Rust-Oleum Varathane Fast Dry Black Cherry Wood Stain is currently not available in an aerosol spray. If tape is removing the stain it sounds like there may be too much product on the surface. We recommend taking a mineral spirits dampened rag and wiping down the surface. The areas where the stain lifted can be sanded, and the stain can be reapplied.

Answer This Question
A: We're happy to help. We recommend applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Fast Dry Wood Stain using a brush or lint free rag, however, this stain can not be applied to floors or stairs without a floor finish. The wood stain will need to be top coated using Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Floor Finish.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Ryan! For added protection and durability, we do recommend applying a polyurethane over Rust-Oleum Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain. Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Ultimate Polyurethane is a great option for interior surfaces. Please keep in mind, this is not a waterproofing finish and at this time, we do not offer a waterproof finish for interior wood surfaces.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out, Mary. When using Rust-Oleum Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain on exterior surfaces, it must be topcoated with a suitable spar or exterior-grade polyurethane. This stain must also be applied to bare wood. We also do not recommend this product for use on decks or on porches, as we do not offer a suitable topcoat for this type of use and foot-traffic.
