A:  I have not used Pledge specifically but I have used other similar products with no adverse effects. Even though it is a matte finish it is very durable, like any other polyurethane finish.

A:  I have only used it on projects that would not come in contact with heavy use so to speak. If I wanted to protect a countertop, I would probably apply the polyurethane that is used on floors and do at least 3 coats. I think that would give the protection you need.

However, if it is applied over water-based paint on some bare wood, tannins from the wood can bleed through the paint and cause yellowing.
