Q:Can I use this on drywall that?s been painted with latex paint?
by|Apr 30, 2022

Answer This Question
A: Thanks for reaching out Rene. We do not recommend Varathane Ultimate Water Based Polyurethane be applied over latex paint on a wall. Since the Polyurethane must be applied with a synthetic bristle brush or foam brush, getting a smooth finish would be very difficult on a wall. Also, at least 3 coats are required.

Answer This Question
A: I have not used Pledge specifically but I have used other similar products with no adverse effects. Even though it is a matte finish it is very durable, like any other polyurethane finish.

Answer This Question
A: Good question, Jan. If you apply the Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-based Polyurethane, then it will dry to a matte finish. A minimum of 3 coats is required with this product to provide the right protection. As long as it is applied according to the product label instructions and isn't over applied or allowed to pool, this finish will not yellow. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Q:Will this work to seal painted linoleum countertops in a bathroom?

Answer This Question
A: I have only used it on projects that would not come in contact with heavy use so to speak. If I wanted to protect a countertop, I would probably apply the polyurethane that is used on floors and do at least 3 coats. I think that would give the protection you need.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Patti! Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Ultimate Polyurethane will have a crystal clear finish. However, if it is applied over water-based paint on some bare wood, tannins from the wood can bleed through the paint and cause yellowing. If painting bare wood, we recommend starting with an oil based primer, like Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer, to prevent tannin bleed.
