Q:What is the difference between this nap and the 3/8" nap, same product? Can I use these replacements on a 4" frame?

    Answer This Question

A:  The difference between the 1/4 and 3/8" nap of the 4-1/2" mini woven covers are that the 1/4 will be a shorter fabric length than that of the 3/8s. So with that being said the 1/4" will not pick up and release as much paint as the 3/8" will because there is less length of fabric for the paint to hold on to. Both of the mini covers will fit on the mini 4-1/2" frame. Also the 6-1/2" covers will fit on the same frame. Only thing is do not be confused with the 4" covers as we do have them as well but it is a different system for the minis that you are questioning here. We welcome calls to Wooster Brush customer service at (800) 392-7246 if we can assist further.

A:  Shorter nap equals a smoother finish. They can be used on a 4" frame PROVIDED the frame has the same size hole as the roller cover.

Q:Can I use with satin paint or is it recommended with gloss and semi- gloss application?

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes you can use the 4-1/2" woven cover in satin paint. We recommend using the woven cover in the higher sheen paints such as satin, semi-gloss, and gloss paints. Woven covers are a tighter fabric construction so it will not pick up and release as much paint as a knit cover. But when painting with the higher sheen coatings dumping to much paint on the surface could lead to sags and runs so with that being said the woven cover will leave a smooth lint free finish with your high sheen paints.

Q:I want to make some privacy screens using some thick cardboard and want to use a roller to apply the paint, but I don't know which roller would be best to purchase for this technique and would like to know if anyone can please advise me on which roller would work best. Thank you

A:  How large area of cardboard? If they are large, using 4 1/2 roller cover is wasting your time...unless that is not a problem. I'm not sure you'll get the coverage of a large area evenly using a small cover. If the pieces are small, that cover should work well and try not to get your cardboard too wet. Good luck!

A:  I don't see why these rollers wouldn't work. As with any roller, a thicker nap one can be used to "work" the paint to yield a more stippled or orange-peel effect. Here's another idea, for what it's worth: I needed to make several colorful panels for a parade float and tried a technique I've only used for wood staining. Using 2-ft. squares of 1/8" masonite painted white, I randomly wiped on six different colors of "swishes & swooshes" with wiping rags. Just a thought in case anyone wants to take a project up a notch or two. Good luck and have fun.

A:  I would use spray paint for cardboard and keep the spray can way back and make serval very light sprays until achieve color or darkness on the cardboard don’t get too wet

A:  These roller covers will work well with your project as long as it is a smooth surface. If your surface has a texture (or you are wanting to leave a bit of stipple or just leave more paint on the surface), you may want to use a 1/2" nap roller cover.

A:  I used for epoxy tub refinishing and worked just fine. Have enough of them as the material dry fast, so you can get another clean roller and finish the job.
