Toilet bowl finish decays after only a few years
This toilet only has a 1 yr warranty. The finish on the inside of our bowl flaked and wore off after a couple years. No hard abrasives or cleaners used. Not good.

    Dirty and flawed.
I never thought I would be excited about ordering a toilet. I was until after I got in installed. As I was cleaning the bugs and dust, that came factory with the toilet, I noticed a bubble in the ceramic. It's in the bottom of the bowl. Now I have to spend time and energy pulling it back out and returning it. I even looked it over before installing, I just didn't clean the grime that came factory.

Nice look: impossible to attach side covers
My contractor and I cannot figure out (instructions show a pop in cover---not what came with my toilet) the side blot access covers. I received two parts and appears that someone (impossible b/c of space) reaches in and holds a plastic threaded piece that the outside cover is supposed to screw into. Even if we were successful--- how would it be removed if needed. Poor design. Awaiting a response, solution, replacement to cover the side holes. Only other complaint - lid seems fragile/ cheap.

I installed this toilet last night, it was a difficult task due to the concealed nut and bolt design (there was a lot of guessing when I tried to line up the nut and bolt with the hole of the toilet even with my wife checking things out next to me), and the one piece toilet design made it even more challenging due to the weight. The installation was completed eventually and it has very good quality feel, and the sound is pretty reasonable when the water tank is refilled especially with half flush mode.

Fragile Toilet Lid - not covered under warranty
We've been satisfied with the toilet overall, however I was very disappointed the lid broke when a shampoo bottle dropped on it. AS said this is not covered under warranty. The toilet is only 3 months and AS does not cover fragile breakage.

I learned a lot about toilets in the past month.....American Standard's Tofino is an excellent toilet.....I bought and installed two of them
Our old toilets kept clogging. We had four in our home and I wanted to replace all of them. The challenge is that when you look at toilets in the store, you can't test flush them-----and even if you could, it would be difficult to save up enough "material" to test each one. You would also feel awkward, sitting on a toilet, doing your "business" inside The Home Depot. Given this constraint, all you can do is rely upon reviews, brand reputation and the specifications. The Tofino toilet was tested by an independent laboratory, and in the test, it successfully flushed 1000 grams of "material", which is about two pounds. If you are depositing more than two pounds of "material" in one sitting-----well then you have an entirely different and much bigger health issue to deal with. So, pay attention to the MaP rating, which is 600, 800 or 1000. Buying a toilet that has a 1000 MaP rating is the best decision, in my opinion. There are two primary kinds of flushing systems, "gravity flush" and "siphonic jet". They both have benefits and drawbacks. Gravity flush toilets have a bigger trap way (the ceramic pipe that takes away the "material", so they are less likely to get clogged. Siphonic Jet toilets (such as the Tofino model) use the power of a siphon to clear the bowl, which is clever but not quite as certain as a gravity flush toilet. The benefit of siphonic jet over a gravity flush toilet is that siphonic jets do a better job of cleaning the bowl of all debris than a gravity flush toilet does, so in theory you can clean them less often. I recently bought two Toto toilets that are twice the price of the Tofino, and they do flush very, very well, however, they get dirty fairly easily. So, I decided to give the American Standard Tofino a try, for the other two toilets I wanted to replace. I put both Tofino toilets in today and it was super easy. They both flush really well, and are manufactured to a high standard, in my opinion. The glaze is nice, the pieces fit together well, etc. My kids have tried their best to clog the Tofino toilets and the toilets have not let me down. The kids also enjoy (as do I) having two buttons, depending upon the type of waste they deposit. I even tried flushing a #2, using the #1 button, which is intended for liquids only and it worked just fine to clear the solid waste and toilet paper without a problem. The Tofino looks nice too, with its semicircle curved one piece tank design. I like the Toto toilets I bought a few months ago AND I like the American Standard Tofino. Note, the warranty on the Toto toilets was 5 years and the American Standard has just a 1 year warranty. However, the Toto toilets were twice the price. So, everything is a trade off. I like both the Toto and the American Standard Tofino toilet. I would happily do my "business" in either one, as long as I have an adequate toilet paper supply and a magazine to read. The American Standard has a telescopic seat, which is kind of nice, as the cover actually hides the seat when the cover is place down. The toilet was a bit tricky to align, since the nice looking skirt makes it difficult to see exactly where you are setting the toilet. In my case, my wife marked the toilet with masking tape pieces in the center, and on the floor, so it would be easy to line up before pressing into the wax seal. With a wax seal, you only get one chance, and if you get it wrong, you need to buy a new seal for $5. In my case, I got it right, with both of the Tofino installations, and American Standard even supplied the wax ring along with the toilet. The Tofino has a powerful flush. I even stuck my hand down by the siphonic jet (in a clean bowl) to feel the water pressure, and it was impressive. Only time will tell if the flushing components are reliable, but they look to be pretty good quality to my untrained eye. You could spend $100 on a toilet, and it might work great, or you could spend $5000 on a toilet and have it be a dud. Some of what you experience is the luck of the draw and the law of averages, even within a specific model. As I said, I have had good luck with Toto and also seem to have had good luck with American Standard. I'm not a Kohler or Mansfield guy. For the price, I think the American Standard punches above its weight, and is well worth the money. I would certainly buy it again, and I can say the same for Toto. In the end, go with a name brand, and I think you will be fine...The one thing that matters most is that MaP rating...Make certain the toilet you are buying has a MaP rating of 1000. That single attribute is what matters most. Everything else is just a matter of preference. Choosing which button to push is fun though, I will say that. I think the water saving toilets of today are much, much better than the first generation models. American Standard is a trustworthy name. I give the American Standard Tofino toilet my highest stamp of sincere approval. OK, I have to go use the Tofino now. :)

My whole house is Kohler toilets but I did not want to spend a lot of money so I decided to go with the American Standard toilet for the price, look ,etc. I do love everything about the toilet except the cheap seat. We can't seem to get the seat tight enough to prevent it from moving and it is really not good quality so I may end up getting a better seat down the line. Overall the toilet with the money saving push button top feature is great. I do like the soft close too.

VERY SLEEK!!! LOOKS GREAT AND IS EASY TO CLEAN! YOU DEFINITELY NEED 2 PEOPLE TO INSTALL SINCE YOU CANT SEE THE HOLES AND IT WEIGHS 120LBS. THE TANK PORTION IS ALSO ALOT SHORTER THAN A NORMAL TANK SO YOU MAY WANT TO PAINT THE WALL BEHIND IT (IF THERE WAS AN EXISTING TOILET) AFTER TAKING THE OLD TOILET OUT. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT!!!

I love this as much as one can love a toilet. It is so sleek and matches my new bathroom. My son and I installed it will little to no issues. As you can see from the pic, it's in a nook. So it was a bit difficult to get to the nuts. The side caps are only for visual reference. You can't get your hand in there. The two-option flush is really neat. Can't believe the water it saves over a traditional toilet. We've been using it for three weeks with no flush issues. As an install tip, get a 'better than wax' seal instead of a wax ring. So much easier and less messy.

I love the look and sturdiness of this commode. My criteria was a one piece with a full skirt and chair height at a reasonable price. This meets 3 of the 4 criteria. I like it better than the Toto which cost almost twice as much. I really wish that it was chair height. It has been installed for a week.

This is a very nice toilet, easy to install/or seat the toilet. First thing is the color, the box clearly states it is White in color but it clearly is Bone white. I installed it and did not notice the difference until my wife told me. Second look out for sale, I purchased my Tofino Complete 1 piece 1.1 GPE for over $300 bucks and 2 weeks later it dropped $60 bucks. I got a price adjustment, but 1 week later it was another 20% of the sales price. Third and last is the slow close toilet seat, works great when slow closing but to lift the seat you need to use two hands or tips of your fingers to open the toilet seat. Poor design, super tight seal together... Replacement seats are very expensive and hard to find.

This is a great toilet. The porcelain is flawless. To those of you concerned about the flushing capability (I was) it's pretty remarkable. The low flush button has flushed impressively, impressively enough that I tested it on what otherwise would require the longer flush button....(if you catch my drift), also no problem. I liked the looks of it and the price was great. The downside is the flimsy feeling seat. Are any toilet manufacturers putting quality seats on their toilets? We'll likely replace the seat but are otherwise very happy with this toilet. I hope we don't need to use the 10 year warranty, but it's reassuring knowing American Standard stands behind their toilets for that long.

It can be a little tough to line up the bolt holes (requires 2 people: one to set, one to spot to make it super easy). You can reach around the back to easily tight the nuts once its set. Toilet works and functions great! Very Happy and will buy again! Wax Ring is included but you do need a water hose. Just fyi!

I bought two of these for our bathroom remodels. I've been using one of them for about a month. We did replace the seat with a bidet seat. My major concern was did it have the power and volume to flush waste completely. The answer is yes it does. I've had no issues with having to flush twice to clear the bowl. It's quiet, looks nice and I really like the dual flush on top. I'd buy these again. FYI, the bidet seat is a low cost GenieBidet seat if you're curious.

Love the look, bought it for the sleek uncomplicated outer design, which is easy to clean. The only downside is how difficult it was to get your hand or fingers in to the slot to secure toilet to floor. Other than that love the dual flush and the fact that the seat and everything except the shut off valve came with the unit.

After only two years, the flush buttons on these have not been working well. The buttons are so loose, flushing is difficult. My little one cannot generate enough force to flush the toilet now without help. What's worse is that I went to the American Standard website to look for replacement parts, which do not appear to be available online. I searched via the name of the toilet. And I also searched the website based on the part numbers listed on the underside of the tank. 7381290-200.0070A (push button) and 7381283-200.XXX0A (R & T Dual Flush Valve). I have no idea which part I need to fix the loose button problem. But I guess it doesn't matter because neither of these show up on the search on the American Standard website.
