I was extremely disappointed. The material was so light. It is not real cedar. It is pine that is stained. The post are not solid wood. They are hollow inside so they are not strong.It is very light. I had a professionally installed and assembled. I found that the material was so thin and low quality you can’t hang anything. I had wanted to hang a bench or a swinging egg chair but I was told that the wood wouldn’t be strong enough to hold much weight. which was the main reason I wanted a pergola

My husband put this together in 2 days. Although very sturdy it is not solid cedar. With that being said it was delivered with no damaged pieces and is very sturdy!

Very happy with my purchase a year ago. Keep in mind this is a lengthy project. I had my two teenage boys put it together over a long weekend. It was their first major project and there indeed was frustration on their part. Someone who has more experience will likely be able to construct it in less time, but nonetheless it is time consuming and would be very helpful if two worked together. I wish i would have clearcoated it first to preserve the color and wood. I will be doing it this year. I get compliments everytime someone is in the backyard.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this Pergola a few months ago and we love it. Delivery was great! Assembly was fairly easy with 3 of us (took about 5 hours). We did not use the top layer of wood because we used polycarbonate roofing panels to provide protection during the rain. We also added outdoor curtains from Amazon to provide an additional touch. The pergola feels like it's great material. Overall we very happy with the product. Thanks!

And it was easy to put together!! Again, this pergola is a beautiful addition that adds so much character to my outdoor space.

This pergola was pretty easy to assemble. And the finished product looks great. After getting the parts sorted (of which there are MANY!) things went together well. It took 3 of us (2 doing most of the work and one as a helper/gofer) about 8 hours. Things fit together amazingly well. Watch where the pre drilled holes are when putting items together to make sure they are in the correct position for the next steps. (Learned our lesson when we had to redo one section). Definitely a good choice.

This is a nice pergola, but I can’t give it 5 stars for the following reasons: 1. Some of the boards were warped when we unpackaged them 2. As a result of the boards being warped, some of the holes did not line up. 3. Written instructions were a little confusing It is nice and sturdy. Because we live in Florida my husband secured the legs to a concrete poured base

Fit together good some of the smaller pre drilled holes didn’t line up but that’s not a problem. Seems very sturdy and looks great. I did add a roof to it for shade. Shipping was a little slow it took almost two weeks to get it but it was in good condition when it arrived.

I purchased this Pergola as a Mother's Day gift. I had a unique size area where every Pergola was either too big or much too small. After reviewing the online plans, I determined with my basic construction knowledge and tools that I could modify the 10' X 12' Pergola slightly smaller to fit my area. Even without modifications, this Pergola was good quality and easy to install. I would definitely recommend this to other buyers.

Very impressed w the kit. At the price point and w Chinese cedar (whatever that is), I was concerned about quality but I expect this to last a long time. Tip - follow the instructions to not tighten it up until the end when you square it up. My concrete slab slopes slightly away from the house and one corner is a little low but with the bolts not fully tight, it settled into a happy posture if not perfectly square. See the pics, looks great.

This elevated my space just as imagined. 4-5 hours built time. All hardware and instructions straight forward. Highly recommend.

We just love our addition to our patio! Easy to assemble and reviews are correct on time it takes, hardest part is seperating all the pieces. But directions are great and product is well manufactured! Highly recommend

The beauty of this pergola is awesome, but the frame base takes some time to construct. The plastic caps on the 4 posts prohibit the cross bars from snugging in, so we had to trim the sides off as the screws have no extra length to accommodate even the slightest gap. Took 2 savvy men with 2 additional helpers for the heavy lifting into the bases to anchor in the concrete. How a couple of the reviews said 1 man constructed this on a Friday evening simply is impossible. The sheer weight alone and ability to lift 4 corners makes it necessary to have a minimum of 2. Very thrilled with the results, but will be placing a sealant to extent integrity of wood.

Put this up this weekend on my deck. surprisingly easy to assemble with pre-drilled holes and easy to follow instructions. There are 2 challenges to putting it together. first the boxes that it comes in are very long and quite heavy. you will need help moving these. i put one end on a 2 wheeler and carried the other. Second you will need a way to prop the posts up on each end when you join them. Otherwise piece of cake. took us maybe 7 hours to put together. Don't be intimidated.

A month had almost gone by and we finally got our money back, I called Backyard Discovery direct and within a few days as promised we got our Pergalo and simply love it! Staycation is my back yard. I regret waiting to many years before I added the Backyard Discovery Pergola to my backyard. It’s created a living space I’ve never had in my own yard. My contractor was hesitant when he say the boxes. But I arrived back at noon and it was completed. He said the construction was high quality, instructions were easy. In fact he has recommended and installed several Backyard Disciry Pergolas after his experience with mine. My only regret- not purchasing it sooner. Thank you

I replaced a plastic pergola that was severely worn with this beauty. It’s well made and the professional installation went smoothly.. I recommend the product and the installation. Adds a lot of balance to my property.

I’ve owned my house 31 yrs and regret not adding this pergola years ago! It’s created living space in a part of my yard I never used til now. My contractor was skeptical. He planned a day to build the deck and 2 days to build the pergola kit. He arrived at 6AM with his crew of two. When I returned at noon they were almost done!! They said kit was easy and well built. In fact he has ordered kits from you for other projects. He said more economical and time saving than have his crew build from scratch. The deer watched the crew built it and quickly realized they now need to share the yard with us.

Great costumer service as I had to replace a part that was damaged during shipping. Love everything about this pergola and it completely transformed my backyard.

I don't understand the bad reveiw about poor instructions and cheap hardware. Instuctions are very clear and easy to follow. Hardward is good and even get a few extra nuts and bolts. Assembly was quick and easy. Pre-drilled holes all lined as they should. It was actually fun to assemble this product.

Went up easy. only took two days. very sturdy and just what we were looking for.

This pergola looks so expensive. Even my snobbiest of friends were genuinely impressed. Don't rush with assembly, and everything will go smoothly. I left the hardware out in the rain & elements for a month, and not a spot of rust. You will definitely need a helper, and a cordless impact driver is worth the investment.

I love how this pergola turned out. It took me and one other person about 5 hours to put it together. We used the directions on the built app and they were pretty easy to follow. Definitely recommend.

My husband put this together and he had no problems at all. It probably took him a few hours on a Friday night. We got it to go over our hot tub and it fits perfectly. This has stood up in all seasons in NY and we do not have it anchored to the pavers. It does peel but we haven’t sealed it yet so I highly recommend. We’ve had extreme winds and even with it not being anchored its extremely strong, heavy and sturdy.

The wood is beautiful. It took my husband about 6 hours to build by himself. He said it was super easy to do! We love the look of it and it makes our patio more inviting!

I love everything about our new Backyard Discovery Pergola. Ordering was easy, and it was shipped right to my door. Communication with the shipping company was fast and easy. I had intended to install it myself but other things took my time so I hired the company suggested and they were very professional and did a great job. This will infancy our enjoyment of our backyard for years to come.

We bought the 12x10 pergola last summer. My husband put it together in about 4 hours. We needed additional help from family to get the pergola in the footings, but was overall and easy process. It held up wonderfully over its first Minnesota winter and fits our space perfectly!
