This drill is what made me a dewalt fan for life
Absolute Beast (But keep your chiropractor on speed dial) Let me start by saying this drill is a powerhouse. If you want something that will drive fasteners and bore holes with zero hesitation, the DCD999 is exactly what you need. However, a word of caution: this tool does not care about your puny human joints. The "Incident": I was tackling what I thought was a simple job—drilling a hefty hole straight through a tree. I had a heavy-duty bit chucked in, gripping the drill confidently like I was the boss. Everything was going smoothly until the bit caught a massive, stubborn knot deep in the wood. Did the DCD999 stall? Did it bog down and ask for a breather? Absolutely not. It dug its heels in and decided that if the bit wasn't going to spin, I was going to spin. In a split second, this yellow-and-black torque monster engaged in a full-blown alligator death roll with my wrist. I was about half a rotation away from my arm snapping into a human pretzel. The drill literally wrenched itself out of my hands, hit the dirt, and just sat there looking at me like, "Who's next?" Pros: Unstoppable Power: Seriously, pair it with a FlexVolt battery and it will chew through anything. Build Quality: It survived the drop without a scratch after it tried to take my arm off. I've spent plenty of time taking DeWalt tools apart and putting them back together to fix them, but this beast didn't even need a checkup. Chuck Grip: Holds onto bits tighter than I apparently hold onto the drill. Cons: Will actively test your grip strength and the integrity of your rotator cuff. The Verdict: Buy it. It’s easily one of the best drills out there. Just do yourself a favor and use the included side handle. Seriously, folks. Use the side handle, or prepare to learn how to write with your other hand.

Feels like new after owning for a year
Used this tool on stainless steel bathroom partitions while installing them, cement and brick for installing doors, and mostly drywall installing shelving systems in closets. Thousands of holes and different materials and the drill still feels new. No lack of power, head still closes around bits as if new. It just feels like a new tool about a year after buying it. I mainly compare it to using an impact for a while and the impact gets worse and worse. Im a carpenter by trade and an amateur woodworker.

      Chuck shattered
Only used the tool once for a particular project and hung it on my rack. Went to use it a second time and noticed the chuck had shattered. I usually have good luck with Dewalt stuff so didn’t think twice about looking it over when I finished up my project.

        The chuck is fixed!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The DEWALT DCD999B FlexVolt Advantage Hammer Drill had promised to be a game-changer, and as a professional in the construction industry, having the “supreme best” hammer drill in my toolkit is more than a luxury, it's a necessity. One particular aspect that filled me with hope was learning from DeWalt that they had finally tackled the long-standing issue of the chuck freezing. This fix was long overdue, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation as I unboxed this power tool. After unboxing I inspected it and gave it a spin. The balance, ergonomics, and feel of this hammer drill are just so good. I then went to the shop and did some real hard testing to see if I could get the chuck to lock up. I was not able to get the chuck to lock up or malfunction and was VERY impressed by the power and performance of the drill. I did lots of holes in concrete, and then drilled well over a dozen of ½ inch holes (with a ½ inch twist drill bit) all the way through treated 4x4 in about 1.5 seconds a piece. Then I got out a dull 1 inch spade bit and the drill tore all the way through the 4x4 with no hesitation in about 3 seconds!! All these tests were done on speed 3 with a 9AH FlexVolt battery and the drill was able to effortlessly handle it all. I then tried using a 5 inch hole saw. For the hole saw I finally had to put it down to speed 2. The drill still performed beyond expectations, though caution is advised with 5 inch bits due to dangerous kickback. (I seriously hurt my shin and arm myself) As for features, the work light is worth mentioning! Most drill lights do not do that much, but this light has been VERY helpful. The drill has 3 brightness settings. The first setting is about what you would expect from a normal drill except for the fact that it remains on for 20 seconds after the trigger is released before turning off. The second setting is a little brighter than setting one; it is about as bright as a dim flashlight. It also remains on for 20 seconds after the trigger is released. I usually use it on setting 2. The third setting is very bright and impressive and stays on for 20 MINTUTES after the trigger is released. I have used it on setting 3 to light up the whole jobsite, all by itself!!! Setting 3 is about as bright as a portable work light. After these demanding tests, the hammer drill swiftly became my favorite in my tool chest. I now use it regularly without any issues or the chuck ever locking up. It is also very durable and tough. I take good care of it but it has fallen more than once and been subjected to jobsite abuse and never had a drop in performance. Its reliability and power have truly impressed me, making it a reliable companion for every project.

Come with 2 Amp instead of 6 Amp battery
Purchased this kit, says it comes with a FlexVolt 6 Amp battery, it's a 2 Amp battery inside the bag, not the 6 Amp FlexVolt. Found that out when I get to the jobsite and open the kit. Very disappointed.

Simple and yet everything you'll want!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Finally got to use my new Cordless Hammer Drill and I can't tell you enough about how much better this tool worked compared to my old one. To start, the fact it is cordless was amazing for me. I was in the middle of a street where extension cords were not an option. The hanging clip made it easy to carry to and from the job site. The handle was easy to adjust and secure with just a few twists and didn't budge the whole time I was using it. All of the adjustments are simple and quick to make making this thing a breeze when using it for multiple tasks. There was plenty of power behind this thing I wasn't concerned it couldn't get the job done. It would get warm, but never hot enough that I thought it might overheat. Overall I am ecstatic to have this great tool in my collection now!

              Flexvolt Advantage Hammer Drill DCD999
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Dewalt reviews I was sent the flexvolt advantage hammer drill DCD999 and a 6.0 flexvolt battery as a sample. Overall I am very impressed and can notice an increase in power from a 5.0 20V battery compared to the 6.0 60V flexvolt. I have used this drill to mix several 5 gallon buckets of drywall mud, drill 6” holes in Sheetrock and other small drill tasks such as driving screws and making smaller holes with paddle bits. I usually use my flexvolt mixer to mix mud and concrete but decided to try the flexvolt advantage drill to see how it would mix and it did very well without bogging down at all and could definitely tell a difference in power from my regular brushless 20V drill which would normally struggle some to mix something this thick. The 999 comes with a nice screw on handle which is longer and makes it easier to use compared to the ones that came with the 996 model. It also comes with the standard belt clip too. One thing I wish DeWalt would add to more of their drills is an E-clutch to save your wrist when using large hole saws or mixing, this flexvolt advantage does not have any sort of emergency stop. The overall drill is almost identical to the 20V brushless version physically with a few minor differences, including a slightly wider base where the battery goes and the clutch is a little different. Overall a Very impressive drill and power, definitely recommend getting this drill especially if you are already on the flexvolt battery platform. It is nice to be able to use your 20V batteries for smaller projects but when you need more power you can also use flexvolts and get a boost.

                Amazing cordless drill
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the new DCD999 for several weeks and it is an all around joy to use. The drill is very well balanced – even better balanced than the previous models. Also the rubber overmolding on the grip makes it very comfortable to use. This drill also includes a new, longer side support handle that is befitting a drill that is this powerful and makes it much easier to control. Where this drill shines is the power that it packs with a Flexvolt battery attached. I have used this drill side by side with several previous model DeWalt 18v and 20v hammer-drills drilling into old hardened concrete slabs and nothing can compete with this new drill in speed or torque. Whether you are looking to get your first battery powered hammer-drill or are looking to upgrade from an older model, this drill coupled with a Flexvolt battery will not disappoint.

                  Much improved
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am replacing my 18v from 2009, this is a much better drill all around. First observation, the weight. This drill is not only much lighter(using a 2ah battery), but also feels more balanced. Second the light and light selector is a big improvement. Puts the tiny little dim light by the trigger to shame. As far as power, I haven’t put it under hard work yet...haven’t drilled any concrete holes yet, but I’ll get there. As for what I can tell so far, much smoother, and stronger than my old 18v was in its prime. The extra handle can be multi positioned, and set wide or close to the drill, landing on stability needs. Overall great improvement from my old 18v.

The flashlight feature is *chef’s kiss*
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this drill as part of free promotion for review. The drill is pretty standard for DeWalt, so it’s already great. I used it to clean up several spots in our deck. There’s extra grip material even beyond the grip area that’s great for ease of use. The most impressive part. to me is the light feature. I’ve had DeWalt drills in the past that would only light while the trigger was pulled. With this drill, you can set it so that the light stays on! Even more, there are settings that allow you to have low, medium, and high light settings. Lastly, the high setting simultaneously sets it to be lit for 20 minutes. I tested this for five of the twenty, and the light didn’t flicker once. This would really be excellent for folks who do a lot of work in lowly lit areas. The brushless feature is great, too.

Feels like a corded drill with never ending power
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this drill about a week or so ago. I immediately put it to the test. I needed to drill some holes in the cinder block in my shop. I was amazed how easy the process was. I have struggled with other tools in the past drilling into masonry. The Dewalt handled it with ease. Felt more like I was drilling into wood. With 3 speeds this drill really allows you to apply the perfect amount of power. Being a part of the flex volt line, this was really appealing to me. Being able to use my 20v/60v flexvolt batteries is not only more convenient but when I need the added power I don't have to get out a bunch of extension cords and my corded dewalt drill. This will be a time and space saver when going on jobs. Overall I am very happy with this drill, and I know it will be my go to drill from now on. I highly recommend this tool!

This drill is a little heavy for some females to use; however, my husband loves it and put it to good use immediately installing a handrail on our home for elderly family that visits. This kit comes with a 1/2 in. cordless hammer drill/driver, a 360° side handle which makes it easy to hold hold onto the drill, a FLEXVOLT® battery, a 6 amp charger which only took an hour to charge the battery, a hook for your belt, and all in a kit bag. It has a light with 3 different brightness settings which lasts up to 20 minutes if working where you need it

I got the Dewalt Hammerdrill to replace an older, corded unit that reached the end of its life. My first impression upon opening the box and handling the unit was that its of high quality. From the rugged keyless chuck to the heft of the unit and the well designed and chunky battery, I know I will get years if use from this drill/driver. I particularly like the accessory handle. For years, these handles simply screwed into 1 part of the drill body but Dewalt designed a great one that attaches via a simple clamp to the chuck body for easy customization. You can choose 3 settings for more or less torque which makes powering thru most substances a breeze.i have used it to make pilot holes in concrete then drive in Tapcon screws ,which were an absolute breeze. I also love the battery protector that you slide over the battery terminals when not in use keeping the battery safe and terminals clean.

For those interested in country of origin, the hammer tool, battery, charger and accessories were made in China. Looking for a hammer drill that worked well and does not weigh a ton, this is the unit to purchase. Tried to stress the unit driving 5 inch 3/8 drill into fresh stumps and it drilled 11 holes to depth in less than one minute. Unit comes with a belt clip, but seems a little too heavy to carry that way. All the pieces, and some extra drill bits, fit nicely into the pouch. Battery comes with a cover that is not apparent as to how to remove, until you notice there is an eject button on the front of the battery. No where mentioned in the instructions.

This is the drill to own. If I had to pick one tool to take overseas to build things, this is the tool. This drill has a three speed transmission, so you can tailor the RPM to whatever the material and bit need. This drill runs fine on 20V batteries, so it’s compatible with the rest of the DeWalt 20V line. I own over a dozen 20V batteries so that’s never a problem. But wait, this tool is a Flexvolt compatible tool. Sure any DeWalt 20V tool can run a Flexvolt battery, and the Flexvolt battery will generally provide a big increase in run time. But this drill has what is referred to as Flexvolt Advantage. Attach the provided 60V battery and this tool suddenly has not only a potentially longer run time, but it also has a significant power increase. I could feel the increased torque produced by this drill. Watch the attached video. I use a 5 amp 20V battery and then the 6 amp 60V Flexvolt battery. It was astonishing how much quicker that 1.5” spade bit was able to chew through that dry pine 2x6. The 20V battery immediately dropped from 3 LEDs to 2 LEDs after a single hole. The 60V battery allowed the drill to jump through that board like it was on springs. That old 2x6 pine has been drying in my garage for more than a decade and is as hard as a rock. Later in the video, I put a fresh 4 amp 20V battery on my Flexvolt advantage 7&¼” circular saw. It cut the board just fine like a battery powered saw should. I changed to the 60V Flexvolt battery and made two quick cuts. The saw felt like it had the power of some of my corded saws. This kit is great! It comes with the drill with detachable side handle, a strong charger, a bag and that awesome 6amp 60V battery. I’ll be buying more of those batteries.

This DeWalt 20 volt brushless hammer drill/driver kit is a well-thought-out package that includes the drill/driver as well as a handy zippered carrying case, belt clip, very solid side handle, 6 ampere battery, instruction manual, and a charger. The drill/driver will take a bit up to ½ inch in diameter so this will work well with a wide range of heavy duty drill bits. The supplied battery and charger (see picture) are compatible with other DeWalt tool batteries so this ability to interchange the batteries with my other DeWalt tools is a great convenience! The drill/driver was very easy to use with its textured grip (see picture), keyless chuck sleeve (see picture), and side handle (see picture) which also gave a good grip with its textured surface (see picture). That is important when using this tool as a driver! I highly recommend this set because it is well-made, and I found the carrying case to be the perfect size, allowing me the extra room to stash an extra battery and a few other things just in case!

DeWALT DCD999 FlexVolt Advantage 1/2” Hammerdrill / Drill Driver Simply put...this is without question a powerhouse of a drill. With the ability to run any 20 volt battery alone, this is quite an animal. Now, with the flexibility to run 60 volt and 20 volt, both battery platform investments are now one. If you are invested in both platforms, efficiencies are born when you can grab a 20 volt battery perform 90% of the work on a given job, grab a 60 volt for those truly demanding applications and FlexVolt Advantage was born. I enjoy construction work and what makes it truly enjoyable for me are great tools. Until now when it came to drills before it was my DCD996. I’m proud to now hold my new drill, the DCD999. With an 1-1/8” Forstner bit and all of my weight, I could not stall the electric motor. With a 2” hole saw again I couldn’t stall it. The drill is smooth and the 3-speed transmission is quite handy. I’m glad DeWALT carried over the LED light design from the previous generation. The stability handle is longer than before and understandably, now I know why. The DCD999 is the new King in my shop!

I was so excited when the package arrived today, but turned out to be a disappointment. The first thing I noticed was the wrong battery that was sent. The battery that was sent differed from the pictured. From the other reviews, I learned that the battery I received was the first generation and the one that was advertised is the newer one. That said, I emailed Becca (who replied to the other two reviewers that had the same issue as me) at wecare@sbdinc.com. Still awaiting a response from them. Hope this gets resolved.

The new FlexVolt Advantage Drill is great, it has plenty of power for any task. The new 6amp battery charger is fast and a nice addition. My only complaint is the battery that came with the charger is not what was advertised. Not what I expect from DeWalt. Buyer Beware!

This hammer drill is just what we needed for some basement cinder block drilling for some planned renovations. Hopefully you've read the contents, and know that you need to purchase the battery and charger separately, unless you happen to already own one of the compatible battery types. We have quite a few tools running off of the 20v Max battery, and this adds to our collection. As always, this DeWalt tool is sturdy and heavy-duty. You will not be disappointed.

I decided on this drill to use in times I can not get any power to use the standard corded drill. I needed to use the 5ah battery to get enough power to get through treated lumber and brick. I liked the ergonomic fit in my hand, it was comfortable while drilling through the material. I would have preferred a locking chuck over a hand tighten chuck.

I needed to drill a 2-1/2 inch hole through a 4 x 6 in order to run electric conduit from underground up into my shed I’m building. I drilled the hole before I built the shed. I have several brands of hammer drills and none of them had the power to bore through the wood with the bit I was using. You can see the bit in one of the photos. It has three different speeds, I used it on the low speed and on Hammer and had no problem boring right through it. I do recommend using the side handle that comes with it. Several little things about this Model I like, the built-in light that has three different modes, one is very bright, the three speeds, the belt clip which is a plus for me because a lot of times I just hang it from the back of my tool belt when I'm up on a ladder. Also the flex volt system is nice, I have several tools that use this battery so that's why I bought it without a battery. It has a great bit grip system, you tighten it up by hand and then turn it approximately a quarter of a turn, you can feel it a lock onto the bit once that happens.

I love tools, especially kool tools. This Dewalt 1/2 inch hammer drill is just what you need in your tool pack to make any drilling in concrete a breeze. I didn't realize how much easier a job can be with a tool like this. I ordered it without the flex battery and use my smaller battery but the flex battery will make the tool perform even better. I always liked Dewalt and this drill does not disappoint.

What a great tool. This Dewalt Hammer Drill/Driver can pretty much drill through anything. Very much a work horse tool. It has more power w/Flexvolt batteries and is also compatible w/Dewalt 20 V MAX, heavy duty 1/2" ratcheting nitro carburized all metal chuck w/carbide inserts for superior bit gripping strength. The Led mode is 20 times brighter and gives more light in dark and confined spaces. The extended worktime with LED spotlight mode has a 20 sec. shut off for the extra time needed. This optimize tool has a 3 speed transmission and 11 torque settings. One thing I might add is this tool is very heavy so when first using play with the 3 speeds so you don't loose control of the drill. Another great product from Dewalt.

Perfect tool for any DIY household. My dad actually had this drill and I was tired of borrowing it from him. This Dewalt 20-volt hammer drill makes drilling into our brick and concrete home a breeze. We used this to hang shutters on our brick home, much much easier than my traditional drill. It’s the small things, I love the flashlight settings. The drill is not very heavy even with the battery. The arm makes it easy to apply pressure while drilling. Many different settings for every job imaginable. Dewalt is the gold standard in tools and I’m glad I picked up this drill. I was able to use my 20-volt battery from other Dewalt tools.

This DeWalt 20-volt max lithium ion cordless and brushless 1/2 inch hammer drill/driver with flex volt advantage is the tool only box. It doesn’t come with the battery or charger but it is a great compliment to your existing 20-volt tool set. The hammer drill has three speed settings, forward and reverse and clutch control. It comes with a removable handle as well as a belt clip. It also has an LED light control to help you see what you are working on.
