First positive thing is this is US made. Second plus it they used @90% recycled materials. Third you can use it on any type flooring. I have hardwood floors in my house and my wife uses area rugs throughout the house. One of our old bedrooms is now equipped with as exercise bike so I knew I would start with that area rug. Measured from the roll and cut very easily to fit under the rug. Comfortable to walk on and cushions under my exercise equipment. Now to measure and cut for the four other area rugs throughout the house.

This carpet padding arrives in a large, packaged roll that is 71.5" long, 16.75" thick.  The material is soft, spongy, but firm.  This is a HIGH PERFORMANCE padding, 7/16" thick, covers 270 sq. ft.  It has a great cushiony feel, gives carpeting a great cushion so that when you walk on it, it feels soothing to your tired feet.  This padding also has a spill-safe moisture barrier, which I LOVE...  as it will contain your spill, instead of it seeping deep into your hardwood floors or underflooring, which would be a nightmare.  Imagine getting a new puppy, or if you have an older dog that has a voiding "accident" in the house on your rug...  A carpet can easily be cleaned/washed, but if fluid penetrates the padding, also your subflooring, it will become a permanent part of your home.  YUK!  I can live WITHOUT THAT!!!  Accidents happen, but that is a REAL BIG PLUS IN MY VIEW!  ...Same with grape juice or any other liquid...  that moisture barrier (you can feel it on the surface) can aid to protect your subflooring or your hardwood floors, which says "YES" to me...  WHO NEEDS CONSTANT REPAIRS!  I also do NOT want stinky smells or mildew or mold... in places that i cannot reach with my carpet cleaning machine. This padding is also made of 90% recycled materials; I consider this a good thing also...  THINK GREEN...  I am only gonna walk on it...  so I am glad it is good for the planet!  Other benefits to this padding is it offers another layer to your carpeting, not only for foot comfort, but as an insulator for those of us that must endure brutal winters, it also acts as a bit of a sound barrier for homes with multiple floors...  which also helps...  If you have ever lived with someone hard of hearing, you would welcome this added feature when they have the volume very high! Another great element to this padding is that you can cut it yourself...  therefore, leftovers are not wasted...  You can save leftovers, use them for smaller scatter rugs, which is what I will do; I have many... and on tile, marble, or hardwood floors, which otherwise feel hard as a ROCK...  Adding padding to those carpets is AWESOME!!!  When you are using  leftover padding there is no associated cost...  Without the padding, I do not like those rugs nearly as much...  With the padding, it is HEAVEN walking on them, which then makes them beautiful and comfortable on my feet...  especially when I have been on my feet all day and my feet are aching. This padding is a great product at a great buy, which says "YES" to me!!!  I also LOVE that it is high performance because most products do work great when they are new...  but WILL THEY stand the test of time, use/abuse...  I look for HIGH PERFORMANCE items as I like products BUILT TO LAST...  BUILT TO SERVE ME WELL, AND FOR MANY YEARS...    I am very pleased with this product, have no regrets...  am glad I chose it!  

Great foam carpet pad! I was super excited to see the moisture barrier, we have dogs and always will, and when we get new puppies accidents inevitably happen, the carpet we went with is a polyester, so between that and this moisture barrier, we should be able to clean those pee spots up with ease. The pad is firm and thick making it very nice to walk and lay on. Highly reccomend.

This 270 square foot roll of Future Foam StepAhead Carpet Pad is best manipulated into position with two people as it is quite large. This carpet cushion product is composed of surplus refined Nike ground foam. It is mottled in color due to the different pieces of foam, but overall, turquoise and dark grey are the predominant colors. This product is made in the USA and contains 90% recycled materials which make it an excellent “Green” choice. The great advantage this has over regular foam padding is the special “SpillSafe Moisture Barrier” backing. This barrier keeps liquids from ruining your subfloor and the pad itself. Obviously this is a great advantage in homes with pets who may have accidents. Most pads would need to be replaced when such things happen. It is cushiony underfoot and I don’t detect any bulges or inconsistency in the material. It rolled out easily and I was pleased to be able to use a pair of sharp scissors to cut it to size.

So far, so good with the pad. I believe they advertise the pad as a carpet pad, but we used it under an area rug. We just had to trim it at the edges of the rug. Their claim that it's low VOC was true, I was really happy that once we unrolled it, the pad gave off few fumes. I'm also happy that the pad is mostly made of recycled materials. No reason these pad shouldn't be environmentally friendly. The pad provides a nice cushion. Installation was a snap, easy to cut and trim. Very happy with the pad and definitely recommend.

After reading some of the negative reviews about this padding, I gave it a good going over, short of installing it, with some of those complaints in mind. The idea of this moisture barrier padding makes a lot of sense to me. If you've ever cleaned your carpet, and put down extra detergent water in high traffic areas, you know you have to worry about getting the padding wet, and not being able to get it dry. This product takes care of that problem, pretty sweet. And as far as the lumps people were running into, I rolled out about 8 feet of it, and felt along the whole surface with both hands, and didn't encounter any hard pieces. So they've either improved the product, or I didn't roll it out far enough! My impression of this padding?...it seems like a pretty nice product to me.

This is a nice carpet pad. The carpet pad material is made up of what appears to be shredded foam parts of sneakers.Some bits don't feel like foam. Otherwise, the thickness of the pad, 7/16 inches or 11.11 mm, is uniform throughout. The spillsafe moisture barrier is a facing that is on the top layer which makes it easy to know which side is up during install. The width of the carpet pad roll is 71 inches. My expectations have been exceeded.

Be aware that this roll of carper underlay is heavy and the shipping weight is 75 LBS. I used a utility knife with a new blade to cut to size and starting the cut from the up facing side with a strip of tough cardboard underneath and found it was as easy as slicing through butter. No tearing through with this material that leaves a right mess to clean up otherwise. Walking over the underlay or carped pad as it is so called today; there is no feel of a plastic under barer feet, just a soft spongy feel with little or no sound at all. It has a Nike Grind Premium Green 7/16 in. Thick 8 lb. Density to it and you can tell it’s ‘superb quality. (The product is made with the foam used to manufacture the Nike sneakers. They have partnered with Nike in order to prevent this material from getting into landfills.) We as a family love that. We used carpet double sided tape to secure the underlay (after cleaning the floor boards of course) then relayed our carpet down on top. The difference was amazing. Not only is it much softer to walk on, it also to a large degree, soundproofs our basement noises. Have also used this product upstairs in one of the bedrooms to deaden the noise from the TV at night when the kids are still up. Does it work? Yep, sure does. Wonderful addition and well worth the asking price.

I wanted a firm dense carpet pad to go under my carpet. I chose the Future foam step ahead with Nike grind premium green pad that is 7/8" thick and has an eight pound density. It is made of recycled foam with an insulation "R" value of 1.7. This pad has a built in spill safe moisture barrier and can be installed over concrete, tile, vinyl or wood sub floors. The pad comes in a 72" width and is in a 45 foot roll. The pad can be professionally installed or you can install it yourself. There was a noticeable softer, spongier difference after I installed the padding verses the carpet alone. The pad also reduces noise transmission and serves as a good thermal insulation.

StepAhead gives an added boost to the carpet I bought in December 2018. My family is enjoying our new carpet' for its thickness and plush feeling due to StepAhead. It's exactly what I wanted and would recommend.

Follow up to Ripped off, Home Depot supports their suppliers over their customers. Home Depot recommended Nike Pad. I had originally selected upgraded pad, and they were over selling this pad as the best pad for my carpet. $3000 lost, plus I had already spent significant money remodeling my house from home depot. My carpeting is worn after 8 months, excessive abrasion I have no kids, animals, never wear shoes in house.....see the pictures and I highly recommend not to buy pad from Nike.

We had our carpet and eco-friendly Nike pad installed about 3.5 years ago. About 8 months ago I noticed a lifting in the carpet in our closet. At first I thought it looked like a rodent tunneled through it, then I decided it must need re-stretching. The carpet is out of installation warranty so my hands were tied. Over the last couple of months there has been tunneling on both sides of the bed, as seen in uploaded picture and it's now starting in front of the bed. It is also beginning in our office. We are retired and there is only two of us. We are probably going to have to replace all three rooms eventually with new padding and carpet. Needless to say that is an expense for retired people. I write out of frustration, and now that I see that others have had issue with the Nike product, I think perhaps it's time for Home Depot to address this. Perhaps the manufacturer needs to have a recall. I hope Home Depot can do something about this issue. In the meantime, we don't recommend the purchase of this product.

Since our carpet was installed a few months ago, we noticed various spots where it felt like something hard was under the carpet. Pulled up carpet to see that there was firm-plastic like pieces in the pad. Called HD to see if anything could be done, and they said no-that that is how it is made since it is made out of recycled materials and that all of their eco-recycled pads can be the same way. Apparently they use any part of the shoe. Don't know who would want to have plastic in something that is supposed to be soft and add cushion. Would not recommend.

The carpet is of very good quality. I installed carpet in the 70's and 80's professionally, and the backing is a good bit more brittle than I remember it. The backing seems like a synthetic composite rather than the old fashioned (and tougher/more pliable) jute, but overall it installed well, looks just, is just like the sample, and feels great. My family is thrilled. However the obligation of picking it up and hauling it to my house myself was onerous. I would have paid ~$100 to have it brought the 9 miles from the local Home Depot to my home. HD should re-think the delivery options.

We purchased this pad a year ago to go under new carpet. I had it laid by a professional installer who lightly glued the center portions and tacked it to the parameter tack strip. I don't know if they have changed the manufacturing components since then, but it is noiseless and comfortable to walk on. I would not be looking at replacing it now except that we had a massive flood from the unit above forcing us to replace one small section of the pad due to mousture.

I'm heading to HD right now to talk about my recent installation. The Nike padding is lumpy feeling. In one spot in a traffic area, there is a hard lump which feels like a rock under a shoe. The installer came back, pulled up the carpet, and showed me the firm, dime sized, full thickness piece he removed, which was hard as a rock. Much to my surprise, there is still a lump. Not sure if he removed a different lump or what. Also, in a prominent living room spot is a place which croaks like a frog. I gave it a week hoping it would resolve but it's still very loud. I can squeak it 10 times and there's no change in the sound. There are smaller squeak spots elsewhere. Overall, it feels uneven and slightly lumpy. I'm not very happy with it...maybe I got a bad roll(?)

Moisture barrier kept carpet from getting wet when we got water in the basement. Only issue was that I ordered a full roll and was given only 27 feet, had to find in isle myself.

Great on concrete slab. It feels firm, but thats a good thing. My grandson's gf has cats. This pad will resist urinating accidents.

My carpet is 2 years old and I can feel bare floor underneath. Never again, use a carpet store.

Had new carpet installed less than a year and a half ago and chose Nike Step Ahead Padding. Now when you walk on the carpet it sounds like there is bubble wrap underneath it. It didn't crinkle at first but at about 1 year it started to sound like walking on paper right after I'd vacuum. Now the sound is even more amplified. It's horrible. I was told the better padding would make the carpet last longer so chose this Nike product. I reached out to the manufacturer but did not receive a response.

After 3 years there is channeling across three different rooms. This was expensive carpet and padding and it's unfortunate that we are going the need to replace both. Definitely we would not purchase this padding again. This endeavor was a complete waste of money. It's to bad that Home Depot sells such an inferior product.

Working with this pad was easy. And the pad had a even thickness not like many cheap pads. Cost is a little on the expensive side.

We put this in in our living room, and we are already replacing it, after 5 months, because it is so hard. Laying on our carpet, it feels like there is no padding at all underneath. We pulled the carpet up and replaced with the Prime Comfort carpet pad, and it is a world of difference. I would not recommend this pad for family/living rooms or bedrooms; may be ok for high traffic areas.

Who knew Nike made padding? The first positive for me was the feel and depth of the material. When I recognized it was environmentally better than other paddings I opted to purchase. The carpet I purchased was not top of the line, more medium grade but it feels like a million bucks with this padding. I would use it again for sure.

Small spots of this will sound like you stepped on a plastic water bottle and it will slowly drive you insane. I had this installed by and purchased from Home Depot. I wish we could upload videos so I could share this awful sound.
