    Love Having a Second Ice Maker
    We recently purchased the GE Profile Refrigerator (PFE28KYNFS). We love the fridge but after making a pitcher of iced tea, I realized that we needed the optional second ice maker. Just making one pitcher of iced tea emptied the door ice maker completely, so the second ice maker became a necessity. After watching the GE installation video, my husband was able to install it in about an hour. The video made installation easy and understandable. Note: It took about 3 days before the ice bucket was completely filled.

      It's been only a few weeks but so far the optional second ice maker is working beautifully. It makes plenty of fresh, clean ice quickly. The kit was easy to install. It took me about two hours to install. The installation instructions provided were good, but I also used a YouTube video that showed step by step what to do. No wiring required. There are two plugs you plug the ice maker into within the freezer section, and some minor plumbing with a valve and hose in the back of the refrigerator (just plug-n-play with the hoses). Overall, the ice maker is working as expected and is providing my family with the extra ice we need for the summertime.

      after thiught
      I bought and installed this ice maker after relizing the on the door ice storage was just not big enough. The dirctions could have been better and should have included more pictures but i figured it out. It took me about an hour. Haveing someone to help take the door off and on is a big help.

        Debated on whether to purchase the optional 2nd ice maker. After inspecting the size of the one in the door. Decided to get one. Glad I did. We use a lot of ice and the standard ice maker would have never keep up with our demand. If you don't use a lot of ice you probably wouldn't need a 2nd ice maker. But if you do, it's a must have.

            Slow production and failed

            We understand the importance of this icemaker lasting a while and operating at a high production speed. However, it is not possible to determine the product failure rate, lifespan, life expectancy, or life cycle of an appliance or part. There are many variables involved, such as frequency of use, type of use, location of appliance care, and maintenance.
              This was a great addition to the ice maker in the door, with 4 kids and Florida heat we can always use extra ice. It was easy to install and works great

              This is not explained in the kit description or in the instruction manual, but after installation, you have to reprogram the control panel to recognize the bottom Ice maker. It's going to cost me another $700+ to replace the motherboard and flash drive...

Once installed, it should not need to be reprogrammed.                 Very easy install, I would recommend watching the installation video. Hardest part was moving our fridge. Also our fridge needed different size nut drivers and socket. Beyond that the ice maker works great and we never run out of ice. It started making ice a couple hours after install.
