Comes assembled. Caught my first squirrel the first day I put it out. Expect squirrel to come back as I only re-homed it about 1-2 miles from my house. After researching, should re-home squirrel about 10-15 miles away (better zigzag driving and at night). Still have a few more to catch.

Worked o.k. for first rabbit, not for next. Modified trap with other reviewer added duck taped weight and also added masonite board to enhance size of trigger. Worked like a charm for 3 more rabbits. All relocated to rural protected area.

I bought this yesterday in hopes to trap a red squirrel that kept going in my venza. I didn't catch him on the first round because I had the tension set for heavier weight. Fixed it and an hour later I got him. Super easy to use and I will definitely be using it where I live if the squirrels continue to invade my car. Medium size worked for red squirrels in the ottawa valley.

I have bungee corded this trap on a horizontal tree branch Modifications... I ziptied a peanut to the bottom of the cage with a ziptie & adhered the peanut to the cage & ziptie top & bottom with hot glue...Basically encapsulating the peanut in translucent hot glue... I wipe a smear of nut butter on the glue-covering the peanut. I have an older trap without the trigger adjustment screw, reportedly now included, so I added layers of gorilla tap under the trigger to make it much more sensitive

This trap actually works and thats all I needed. This squirrel wasdestroying my garden and I found no way to stop him. First day I didn't even try to catch and just wanted to lure it inside. And second day I put the peanuts where the trap triggers and it did work. I let it go after few hours and it didn't come back yet. If it comes back then I will catch again and will free it in the nearby park.

Set it up on Sunday, quickly caught mother squirrel in attic, followed by 3 juveniles in the next couple of days. Easy to set up. We used the bottom of a yogurt cup with peanut butter attached to the bottom with a twist tie, which can be seen on the left in the picture. Has a weight adjustment to make sure it will trigger for the smaller animals. It is nice and shiny, easy to hose off without any sign of rust so far. Very sturdy, but not too heavy, with a comfortable carry handle and easy release. We do recommend wrapping it in a tarp to keep the animal calm while you relocate it.

I caught 28 squirrels, 9 rats, 2 opossums & one bird in less than 6 months at my house in Irvine, CA. I set the trap on top of my 5 foot high wooden fence & tied it down so the trapped animals won't knock the trap off the 6 inch wide fence top. I baited the trap with a single peanut placed under the "trigger" sheet metal panel that's located on the bottom. I even caught 5 squirrels without any bait. I modified the trap to make it more sensitive by attaching a small weight (car lug nut) using duct tape, to the vertical wire on the outside of the cage that attaches to the "trigger" sheet metal panel. A second sensitivity modification is to tape a small piece of cardboard underneath the gray grip handle on the top of the cage. These two modifications allow the trap door to close with only the slightest weight applied to the trigger panel. Only negative is that the wire grid size opening allows most rats to get their head through the wire grid & hang themselves. Removing the rats requires using a big shovel & beheading the rat.

Great trap - it works!! Trapped 8 squirrels the first week. I had one of their older traps (the one with double doors) it never worked-it was hard to set and easy to spring, squirrels would always get the bait and get away. However this new cage is foolproof, easy to set and easy to release the squirrel. For bait - I use a pretzel or cracker spread with peanut butter and then some peanuts on top (unshelled peanuts). Place it in the back with a couple of other peanuts. Then put a tiny piece of the same (one peanut) in the middle of the cage and a couple of peanuts outside the cage by the opening. ALSO - I took an old black t-shirt, cut it in 1/2, then cut a small slit for the cage handle. When I catch one I drape the t-shirt over the cage, they can't see out and it keeps them more calm and sedate while transferring them (at least 4 miles away).

Squirrels have for some reason targeted my house and are chewing holes in everything! I have used this trap repeatedly with great success. It is by far the easiest Havahart trap I've used (I have two others-different models). Between this model and another one I like both set, I have caught 61 squirrels-no exaggeration! The only problem I had was when I caught a neighborhood skunk (twice!). The trigger plate is so sensitive that the skunk kept backing up on it while trying to exit the cage and closing the trap door. He was getting angry and I didn't want to suffer the result of this anger! I placed a rock on top of the handle to keep the door from closing again, then ran in the other direction...success! Simple and extremely easy to set and release; solid construction; I highly recommend!

this is a squirrel catching machine.very easy to use.very easy to set and release.very easy on the squirrels.

I love this easy to set and release live trap by Havahart for squirrels, rabbits, skunks, chipmunks, and possums. It is not big enough for groundhogs and racoon's but I have several traps of various sizes and this one performs better than expected and easier to release the animal than my other live traps by other makers. You have no exposure to the business end of the animal when releasing it. I have fruit trees, a large veggie garden, and a koa pond. I get a lot of destructive animals on my property. This product allows me to remove unwanted animals in a humane way to transfer them to a location where they can live out their life without harming human productivity.

The havahart has a basic flaw.The bait is located too close to the back of the cage so that squirrels can reach thru the cage and get the bait.Its an easy fix as you can put a screen or a metal plate across the back.

Caught 4 squirrels over 2 weeks, it is very easy to set and release. The sensitivity setting can be adjusted for different animals. It looked like it was a little short for a squirrel but it worked. It took a little while for the squirrel to go in but putting a lot of salted peanuts in shell outside trap to make it want to go in trap for more worked.

Worked very well we caught 10 squirrels already!

This item has worked great. In 4 days I was able to trap 5 squirrels. The door held firm and squirrels could not break free. Very easy to set up and use. Have had this trap for only 4 or 5 weeks and I am very pleased with it.

Caught a rabbit and a possum that were terrorizing my yard. Very easy to set and release the animal.

bought trap for pack rats, but no luck so far. Like the easy set and adjustment knob. Would like to find this trap in this size with smaller spacing between the wires that make the enclosure, as it seems that whatever sets off the trap crawls out through these.

Okay for a rabbit as they are heavier than a squirrel. Not enough adjustment for a small squirrel.

Easy set solid built

Stop buying any of those repellent liquids. Get this cage!!!! I spent hundreds of dollars with repellents and it only works for 1-2 days, after all the rabbits are so used to the smells and they are not even afraid of those smells anymore! After I bought this cage, my wife told me to return them since it didn’t catch anything in 3 days. However, it starts working!!!! So far I caught 5 rabbits! It works so well but you have to be super patient and put it in the right spot!!!! Make sure you put some carrots and napa cabbage!!! Trust me, you will get them!!!

Definitely worth the cost! It's super easy to set and and (more importantly) to open without getting your fingers too close to the trapped critter.

It is difficult to set the trap door correctly for the size animal.
