It had a lot of possible issues: bleed-through of grain on trim, 200 years of questionable paint jobs, history of moisture issues, etc. Kilz 3 has been used in 2 rooms so far, and has given us the clean slate we needed to move forward. Definitely recommend!

I've written to your warranty dept 3 times with no reply. Last month had a professional painter paint two large bedrooms, a hallway, and an entryway. It was all new drywall, skim coated and sanded. In preparation, all dust was removed. He coated the areas twice with Kilz 3 premium. After a week, the feeling of the walls is still tacky and like plastic/vinyl. Anything that I have leaned against the wall —the paint comes off with it. Anywhere I have used blue painters tape the paint comes all the way off. I tested several areas and the blue tape rips the paint off almost everywhere. See attached photos. This is a catastrophe. The cost of manually peeling and scraping all this paint is incalculable. Every square inch has primer that is no good. I’m happy to mail you large paint chips, I have plenty. I’m happy to have the project inspected by a Kilz technician. Mostly I need all of this paint removed. Please help!!

When I got there they were out of paint but had some kilz primer so I used that. It worked great,no need for color paint. Excellent product. Works just as well in my apartments for ceiling stains.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just had a new tile shower re do and a near total bathroom re do! Beadboard was my choice for one wall. I chose a grey paint for it because of the grey swirls in shower tiles but after the wall painted, it was a darker grey that I desired. I attempted to paint over it with a semi gloss white but couldn’t get that grey hidden good enough. Got Kilz 3 from my garage and repainted the grey wall. After drying pretty quickly, the wall was a perfect white with no grey ! Kilz saved my bathroom re do, really!

I put this primer before my paint and everything peel off

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this product when a client asked to paint their Sandwich Shop. One wall was Old Growth Redwood and needed to be sealed and primed. I used Kilz Premium 3 interior / exterior and it worked wonders.

What happened to the quality? This primer use to have a strong odor and it was really thick and sticky. It used to block any stain with one coat guaranteed whether it was water stains, or any kind of permanent marker. It was my go to and recommended it to everyone. Now it feels like a regular water based primer and doesn’t hide any stains.

Built all new porch rails from pine lumber. This helps seal the wood and knots to prevent bleed thru on the final top coats.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently bought my first house, and realized just a tad too late that the previous owners had smoked inside of it for the last thirty years! Nicotine stains were already coming through the coat of paint slapped on for listing, so I knew this was going to need the best of the best. Kilz Premium absolutely slaughtered the nastiness in one coat, but I put two just to be safe! Before the first coat even dried, the musty odor had all but disappeared and the whole house just felt cleaner. Thank you for keeping my dream home alive, Kilz!

Best primer on the market

We have an old 1860's house that had a most unusual foyer staircase. It looked as though someone removed the right-hand railing years ago. Our challenge was to have a new right-hand railing fabricated in the same design as the left-hand railing. Once installed, we wanted to modernize it by painting the ugly old stained woodwork. But before we could do that, we had to repair hundreds of imperfections with epoxy. Finally, we have the entire project 2 coats for "KILZ Premium" before applying our top coat of latex enamel. The KILZ covered those old 1860's railings and the epoxied repairs perfectly. It's thicker than other KILZ products so it fills in old cracks in the wood perfectly. We have one more coat of enamel to go but I wanted to share this project with other DIYers just to show you that you too can do it.

I bought a gallon of Kilz Premium 3 to cover all the stains before I painted and it worked wonderfully! After reading all the surfaces it would prime and seal, I bought another gallon to restore my vintage metal patio set and 50's outdoor rocker/bouncer chairs. Old farmhouse and I'm debating on leaving the closet chippy so I primed around those areas and just cleaned until I make up my mind. This product is excellent! Highly recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I run a small dog shelter in North Central Montana. We raised money to buy new kennels, so we thought that a new coat of paint was also in order. Problem: the walls were painted bright bright orange and a strange almost neon green. I didn't think anything would cover it. I tried Kilz 3 - color me impressed! I did 2 coats for some extra protection (it is a dog shelter, after all). The coverage was wonderful, easy to apply (other products can feel like I'm applying peanut butter!). Very happy with the overall result!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was worried when I was asked to paint a home ceiling that was covered with 15 years of cigarette smoke damage. I didn't want to use oil! I tested several water-based competitors ceiling and products. Of course, "can oil sprays" of each covered the brown, stained area, but I searched for a water-based solution to cover them. I discovered that Kilz Premium 3 covered the stained ceilings. It's a much thicker paint, and we used a twenty-year-old Graco Nova 395 sprayer with a 5-17 tip. Because of the density of the paint, we had to go about half- speed during the spraying so the gun could catch up, but it covered very well. The finish product was a ceiling with a bit of a shine like an eggshell, or satin. The owner was very happy, and it was unanimous decision it was to be the finish product. What I learned about this product---its very hard to wash off your hands. It took a half hour to scrub my hands free of the paint. Thus, we use rubber gloves the next time we spray! Also, I might experiment with a little larger spray tip next week when we finish the rest of the house. Each gallon covered around 150/square feet and we sprayed out 7 gallons. Based on the price of gallon it was valued priced. If I knew I was entering a contest, I would have took a picture how bad the ceiling was, however, I did take one of kitchen of the finish. Notice the shine! Everybody was very happy with this water-based Kilz 3 Premium.

Complete adhesion failure when used over USG Dust Control Sheetrock Joint Compound. Proper surface prep, proper application with topcoat. One week dry time and the entire surface peeled off like some giant skin. What a waste of time and product.

It got to the point I couldn’t stand NOT being able to paint this ‘fake drywall’! I bought 2 gallons of Kiltz 3 and said a prayer!! It went on the walls like a heavy coat of white paint!! I was amazed! Got all walls painted with Kiltz3 primer & went and bought SW light gray paint with primer in a satin finish. My walls look amazing!! I tried to find reviews on mobile home walls using Kiltz and couldn’t find anything, or overlooked. I am a true Kiltz3 fan’. It even covered my glossy walls and doors! Then I was able to get a good paint/primer to my liking. I got the huge open living area/ dining room covered with 1 and 1/2 gallons. Still have enough paint and primer to finish off entire kitchen walls! We’re talking about an area of 32 feet x 22 feet! A very large area for a vaulted ceilings also!! Not to mention I’m 70 years old woman doing this alone!! I’m sore all over but took my time and 6 days later got everything primed, and painted including the trim and 5 doors. Don’t let the internet tell you this cannot be done, I’m living truth that it can be!! Especially with the thicker Kiltz 3. It’s thicker and would cover anything! Thank you Kiltz3 you have a verified customer for the rest of my life. I hated priming but wanted paint to adhere. And so it did!! PS look over any spelling errors I’m too tired to proof read.

I received a quote to repair the smoke damage from a professional and he said it had to be cleaned first before using Kilz. I had heard such amazing reviews about Kilz and thought maybe the professional was wrong. I bought 5 gallons of Kilz 3 Premium Interior/Exterior Primer and hired a friend to do the work. All I can say is WOW!!! The coverage is flawless! It’s spectacular! I’m in shock! It looks like a brand new ceiling!!! I only needed one coat.Thank you, Kilz! Also, there is absolutely no odor!
