Much like everyone else here, I had 6 false alarms from 8pm to 4am. Three of these are in pieces, the other three are sealed in a bag in a box in my basement.
This is not the first time. My 6 and 3 year old girls were screaming terrified as the entire house strobes and screamed “FIRE” as I frantically ran around the house trying to silence them until finally smashing them to pieces in my garage out of desperation.
Do not buy this product - total crap.

No cust service, and no interconnect
Waited 2 hrs after calling and no one ever answered. All seemed to install fine but can't get interconnect system to work, so don't know if it works or not. Fire inspector said he's unsure if they work together or not as none of us can get them to pair. No instructions on what's up, but the box says they have an interconnect system.

We are sorry you had such an issue getting through to us that day. We must of had a very high call volume. Try us again on a Thursday or Friday, first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, and you should be able to get through very easily.

Green LED ring doesn't work
I've had no issues with false alarms. What I do have an issue with is that the green LED ring does not come on during the day like advertised. I surmise Kidde installed the ambient light sensor too deep into the unit and/or the sensitivity is set too low. So unless you install these so they are hit by direct sunlight you will never see the green LED ring light up. I contacted Kidde customer service and their response was that my house was just not bright enough during the day, pfft.

You'll probably not see this until it's too late..
These were selected and installed by a local electrician, reputable electrical company, and we didn't care because smoke detectors work and we HAD no brand loyalty. Over the past year of having these... We have had CONSTANT issues with false alarms... electrician replaces individual units... But this week will be one year of having these installed... 2 are dead awaiting replacement and 3 have already been replaced, the fire department has been here twice to assist with trying to discover the issue (the problem units are best placed, consistently) and we've lost half a dozen nights sleep over OUR FIRST 12 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP OF THIS DETECTOR (12 detectors, actually).
They're so bad I actually took the time to come to this website and write this review, one went off at 2am last night (makes them all go off)... And I'm to the point where I don't check the house for fire, I grab the step ladder, yank it down and smash the battery seal on the back of the problem unit. Read that again.
I'll be calling the electrician to try and convince them to buy units with another company.
I would rate this ZERO stars... But they made me choose 1 star.

Hello. When these alarms were installed, was any renovations done or anything that might have brought up any dust or debris? False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative.
Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms.
If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled.
Try cleaning out the alarms regularly. If that doesn't resolve the issue, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and get this resolved for you.

Its Good But...
This P4010ACS was the first hardwired only P4010 unit I acquired for my collection and I would say its seldom. One thing I do appreciate about this unit is the integrated light sensing. The light sensor disables chirping until light is detected in the room; when it chirps or has an error, the amber LED clearly distinguishes the which unit is at fault. The bug screen helps with insect reduction as well. Now onto performance. When I tested this with Smoke Centurion, it activated within 5-10 seconds (which is very critical in a real smoke event), as well as a voice to warn you (or your younger children) of danger. There's just a minor issue. The hush feature works, but you have to wait a few minutes after the initial event. This would be suitable for a child's bedroom or the living room.

Frequent False Alarms -Very Disappointed
We decided to replace all 7 of our old Kidde alarms that had 9 volts because we were tired of replacing batteries when they chirped in the middle of the night. We were excited to buy these with the 10 year non replaceable battery. They are 1000 times worse! We have frightening false alarms once or twice a month and it's hard to figure out which alarm is the problem since they are all hardwired together. I'm so incredibly disappointed in these products, and they were pricey!

It was time to replace our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. I decided on these, in that they fit the old brackets and the electrical connections… I did inspect each connector and found one actually broken No problem they each come with a new connector. Killed the circuit and rewired it returned the circuit back to service… Were a little spendy compared to the originals. But very easy to do with a good ladder and a few minutes…

False alarms
I purchased four of those alarms to replace aging Kiddie smoke detectors several months ago. The old ones never gave me any trouble except for the annoyance of having to replace batteries.
However, with those "worry free" alarms, I have to worry about random false alarms that can happen any time and usually stop on their own after 10-15 seconds. I've replaced one that I figured to be the culprit. Long story short, the problem persists.

The detector was reasonably easy to mount, and it connects with other detectors on the same wiring circuit. However, the ambient light sensor does not cause the LED light ring to illuminate during the day as advertised. As a result, it is very difficult to see the very small blinking light and determine the status of the detector. Communications with Kidde about the issue are very disappointing as they take no accountability for the detector not working as designed/advertised. Kidde does not have any productive response to resolving the problem. Fortunately, I have not (yet) experienced the issue of multiple false alarms as reported by a number of other buyers.

Response from Kidde ExpertMar 14, 2024
Hello. This would mean the alarm is detecting that it is in a dim area. The ambient light feature will reduce the light ring, dimming it and reducing it to one small part of the ring and have it only flash once every 60 seconds when the alarm detects it is in a dark or dimly lit area. This is to avoid keeping people awake or disturbing people in a bedroom at night. That would be the alarm working as it should if it is detecting not enough light where it is. To avoid false alarms, please make sure to clean out the alarm with compressed air around the back side edges of the alarm where the mesh is every 6 months to a year and make sure the alarm is not in one of the locations to avoid. LED ring function does not work
It was relatively easy to install the unit on my bedroom ceiling and it communicates with other Kidde detectors on the same circuit. However, the LED green ring does not light up in the daytime as stated. I shined a flashlight on the unit and the ring lights up indicating the unit is powered on and the ambient light sensor responds to the focused light from the flashlight, but not from normal ambient light. Kidde customer service does not offer any constructive response to resolve the problem.

Response from Kidde ExpertMar 12, 2024
Hello. The alarm has detected it is in a dim area where it is. It is supposed to do this when it is in a dim area. That would be the alarm working properly but we are sorry it's not making you happy with its definition of dim. That does make things harder to resolve your issue. We hope the other features of the alarm make you happy.
