Customer Reviews for MSI Ostrich Grey 12 in. x 12 in. Honed Quartzite Floor and Wall Tile (10 sq. ft. / case)

The stone looked nice, but the tiles weren't square in any direction (no right angles). Like one of the other reviewers, I found them to be frequently 1/8th of an inch off. Using spacers was impossible because they kept getting out of alignment. Manually aligning them made uneven grout lines (you can see that in LadyDoItYourselfer's photos). Unusable for less than 1/4 inch grout lines. My installer called it total garbage (I had him pull it up and then used a different tile).

Beautiful natural stone, plan on slight variations when installing. This was my first time working with natural stone as opposed to porcelain or ceramic tiles. I built a small custom hearth pad for my wood stove with it. On the positive side, there is unlimited pattern variation and different shading to work with. Tones range from dark grey to lighter grey with a subtle metallic sheen at different angles of view. It was fun (yet time consuming) to see which way each tile looked its best. The appearance is really as good as I had hoped for. Negative aspects are a result of the slicing and milling of the stone itself. Quite a few tiles were out of square, requiring some micro adjustments with the tile saw. I also went with a wider grout line (1/4") which I recommend to help hide some of the flaws. The top of the tile is very smooth and consistent, however a few tiles were not usable because you could see repeating circular saw marks from milling process. On the back side of the tile things get a little rougher, plan on addressing random high/low spots by lightly grinding the ridges or back buttering with mortar before you lay it down. Finally, I HIGHLY recommend sealing the tile beforehand. I used 2 coats of 511 Impregnator Sealer (only on the top side!) to avoid problems with staining that other reviewers noted. Mortar was easily wiped away, even the water from the wet saw would bead right off. I plan on sealing it one more time after I apply the grout.

This floor tile was the best purchase I had ever made! I had a few minor problems with water stains before I got a chance to seal it with the 511 impregnator sealer. I put on four coats of the sealer and three coats of floor wax. What I have in return is pure beauty! Please look at the photos I have attached and I am sure you will agree!

I am a Do It Yourselfer and I remodeled our master bathroom for the Mrs. last month. We ordered this Ostrich Gray Quartize tile for the floor. Installed tile with center mosaic and liked the natural variations that the stone tile shows off we decided to buy more of this same tile for another bathroom in our home. Received order delivery with no broken pieces (it was packaged well). The Mrs. posted finished pictures on her Facebook page and received 59 likes in a few hours. Would highly recommend to any contractor or homeowner, A-1+. Very happy customer.

If you love grey and stone, you will love this tile. It cuts easily with very little chipping, and each tile has a unique pattern that still flows nicely with the others (although expect to play with the tile a bit to get best juxtaposition of patterns). Like the photo sample shows, every tile has a silver sheen to it in some area of the tile, and almost all have a range of greys that flow across the tile. The silver sheen brightens the tile and draws your eye without being overly dramatic or distracting. Expect that there will be a little variation in thickness of the tile as it is a natural stone. The only problem we had was when we needed to order a few additional cases (we miscalculated the quantity we needed). The tile that arrived was not at all like the original 10 cases we received (they were pock-marked and all had a lot of gold in them, unlike the original tile). We returned them and re-ordered another two cases, hoping that the previous cases were sent by mistake (instead of being some "acceptable" variation in the tile). We were relieved to see the new cases that came matched the original cases in color and texture. Whew!

Warning. Will shows all stains....even when sealed. I was expecting a darker, more stain resistant surface, we’ll forget that. I think the only solution is to cover it, or removal, or lamination(joking).

I love the appearance of this tile, but water WILL STAIN this tile. Maybe it's not 100% pure water, but 90% pure water, will near immediately stain this tile, even if it's sealed with 3 coats of sealant. Those little drops you get on the floor when you're loading the dishwasher or washing your hands will be the cause of those ridiculous, hideous, and prominent stains. I spent a few thousand dollars on this tile, and it's worthless. See picture.

The tile itself is much lighter than pictured. That said it does have some really neat colors when wet. Enhancer takes it a little darker than I was hoping but it is an interesting tile. See pictures for before and after 511 enhancer sealer.

This tile is amazing. There are 3 or so distinct patterns and it is sparkly while remaining neutral. I had my order shipped for free to the nearest store and picked it up. Other than each box weighing 70lbs and being hard to carry, it was quick and easy. No tile was broken, but there were about 10 tiles out of 150 that were not usable. Mainly because they were not scored on one side or had a natural flaw. I used a charcoal grout and it was very tonal. I would recommend this tile to anybody looking for natural stone.

This is really a opalescent Grey natural stone! Easy to cut and install. It is a great accent to slate!

At least one tile per box was broken. The color was so vastly different per box that my guess was they grabbed one from every different type they sold over at MSI. Natural stone varies but this was not even close they looked like they were from different continents.

Please take note the tiles are not nearly as rich in color as they appear online. You will need to figure out the appropriate sealants to get the desired effect.

The tile itself was absolutely lovely, with wonderful texture and varied coloration (5 stars). The big problem is the advertised color is completely misleading (1 star), and I had to return the lot. As shown it is a dark gray to light black, but the received tile was a light gray.

Tile I received was very poorly cut (over a quarter inch difference in thickness from one side to another) and out of square. It also looks nothing like the product photo. I was hoping for a honed-finish dark gray tile--this is more like a weird, silvery color with dark chunks in it. I wish I had it shipped to the store to make it easier to return

"DO NOT" use this tile for flooring, it varies in thickness from 1/16" to 7/8", and the width varied, 11-3/8" to 12-1/8". So even with a level floor slab and self leveling spacers it will not lay correctly. This tile is also very flaky and fragile it would brake as it was being laid. At $77.00 a box they should be more consistent, We had to take up 100 sq ft up and it went straight in the trash. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

The tile was beautiful online but different when you see it more bluish grey with silver streaks. Does not make a nice pattern (professional installed and the took from different boxes ). SPOTS everywhere. After purchasing and installing it was sealed twice. However it keeps spotting. I am planning to seal again however I do not feel it will make a difference. Went to a lot of floor stores for advise, told it should not be doing that & resealing MAY help. Do not buy!

Tiles are not similar in color. They range from light to dark gray. They look nothing like the picture.

The delivery of the item was a disaster and it was delivered twice. Unfortunately I did not like the color. It did not have much green tone to it, was a silver color, and was intensely shiny. I had to return them all.

Looks GREAT in my new bathroom.!!
