The price is right, but there does seem to be...
The price is right, but there does seem to be a cool down for these which is similar to the more famous corded brands, so I bought a second. I use a light touch after sharpening the blades and it is a good tool. Will get some better blades by flex cut for it.

Decoy carving

Compact, portable, and affordable!

Only good for soft wood
Purchased this yesterday on clearance, now I know why. Let the battery gt a full overnight charge to test drive the next day. Tried it on soft pine and ONLY WITH STRONG pressure on the tool did it take remove any material. Bearing down as hard as I had to, I might as well using a hand chisel. Returning to the store.

Ryobi Power Carver
This did not cut into cypress (a fairly soft wood). It does not have a long enough stroke.

Bearings wear out fast
Works great at first... BUT. . after minimal use, the internal components wore out and the head no longer vibrates when depressed.
If you plan on using this for more than a one time project of carving a cub scout pine derby entry... CONSIDER ANOTHER BRAND.

Hubby loves this tool!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this cordless carver for my hubby for Valentine’s Day. He absolutely loves the way it handles & the batteries hold up pretty good too. He said it’s the perfect tool for when he carves on trees that are not accessible to electricity. Nothing will ever take the place of his hand tools - but this is a most excellent substitute !! Need more variety of blades is the only negative he’s said about it !!

Carve away, me mattes.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son gifted me with device for a Christmas gift. Love it, but not exactly sure how best to use it. Does work well, but the carving chisels(3) are pretty flimsy. The slim battery is really state of the art, but the overall tool is limited by its power. Not sure, yet how I will use it. But, it is the thought behind a gift, and not always the gift itself that counts.

won't last long
I like it but it only includes three blades and they get dull rather quickly, also, it can't be used for anything but the most basic DIY projects, it's also extremely unreliable in terms of accuracy and dies quickly.
