Great range and coverage from my typical hose faucet.
I didn't have access to the 3/4" service line because it enterer the foundation underground. Instead I simply tapped into the hose faucets off of the 1/2 copper lines thru the house. These sprinklers have only a 1/2" input (instead of 3/4") so I felt it matched well. With two of these sprinklers at the same time range and covered was great! I had to use the defuser screw to keep it down to 25 ft range. Not a problem. However three at a time drew too much flow and dropped range. BTW - I used a manifold with pre-installed 3/4" valves and controlled with a normal sprinkler timer. Use 3/4"-1/2" reducers before and after the manifold. Works great!

Bought these to replace 3 of my existing heads and they right out the gate didn't fully work. They keep spraying water when the system is off. I would not recommend.

Response from Rain Bird MarketingApr 10, 2023
If your rotors won't stop running even when your controller is in the OFF position, it's likely due to a blocked or faulty valve or the solenoid is set to the "Manual On" position, which is why water would be coming from your main line and through to the sprinkler. On your valve, check the small ports for blockage by debris; rinse and inspect the diaphragm and diaphragm seat for dirt or damage. You may need to replace diaphragm if damaged. If you've checked the valve diaphragm and cleared any blockages, but the rotors still won't detract, the valve may be set in "Manual On" mode, which would raise the diaphragm and allow water to constantly pass through to the rotors. Depending on the valve model, you will need to be sure the solenoid is tightened into the full clockwise position ("Manual Off") or turn the bleed screw or knob on top of the valve clockwise to tighten. If you're still experiencing issues, we’d love to walk you through the steps to troubleshoot. Just reach out to our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) so we can help.

Great spray pattern and completely adjustable for any location.
The Rain Bird 42SA professional grade rotor is the easiest spray head to fit in to any location that you need it. I have a well to water from so my pressure varies from 40 to 55 psi so setting up a zone can be touchy. The rain curtain spray pattern is easily adjusted to get even wetting of the grass and the 3/4 inch inlet keeps the pressure stable to get good distance from each spray head. With my varying pressure I have a portable set up to use in each location to test the pattern and distance for minimum overlap before putting them in the ground and the 42SA has been the easiest to set up in each spot.

WHEN YOU NEED GREATER VOLUME AND REACH.
If you need greater coverage and greater volume, this, 3/4" FPT inlet head will arc between 40 and 360 degrees at 3 gallons per minute. If you notice pic-2, to the right side, the coupling was where I originally had a 1/2" FPT inlet head. Moving the head down gave me greater coverage, volume, and overlap with the other heads. This type of head also gave more throw/reach. The only other option I would have liked is a volume control on the head itself, but it works. Pic-6 gives you an idea of the "Rain Curtain" it produces. Being it is a Rainbird also makes a difference, quality, and good reliability. I have two other 3/4" riser-type heads which I will experiment with. While I don't need the throw, you can adjust the stream from straight to spray. This has seemed to solve a problem I have had for a while.

A nice package to keep on hand
After closing down my sprinklers last fall I knew I had to replace at least one of the sprinklers that was leaking. Receiving this package that includes 4 replacement sprinklers will help to keep my system up and running. My 20 year old Nelson sprinkler finally bit the dust requiring me to replace it with this 42a Rainbird. I like Rainbird for their quality and available products for all my home irrigation needs. The 1/2 inch nipple screwed in flawlessly with the help of Teflon tape. And finding no leaks, I now have my sprinklers up and running.

Convenient 4-Pack of Quality Sprinkler Heads
I ordered a four pack of the Rain Bird 42SA+ sprinklers to replace a couple of faulty Hunter-type heads. These Rain Birds are quiet gear driven heads that are the same length as the old heads with the same ¾” threads. The outside diameter of the 42SA's is slightly smaller, but interchanged very easily. The 3.0 gallon per minute of these new heads seems to match the water volume of my old heads as well. The instructions were printed on the back of the label and made it easy to understand how to adjust the span as well as the distance with a small screwdriver. It only took a few minutes each to get them installed and working as needed. I would definitely recommend these heads for anyone looking for dependable great driven sprinklers.

This Sprinkler is easy to install, actually my 8 grader son helped install the range of water steam in a few minutes. I used it in watering our vegetables garden at the backyard. The cost of the sprinkler is perfect and have already recommended to 2 of my friends,

My house came with these sprinklers in the yard, (had them for a year before I found them). One of them stopped working. I have 4 in the front. So, I installed a new one. Same model but this one works much better than the older ones. Great, inexpensive sprinklers and, simple to install and adjust. Happy.

I just spent a few thousand at Home Depot for my back yard in the last few weeks. As you can see I bought a lot of SOD & A lot of different beautiful trees. So what better and easier way to water my Great trees and SOD than Rainbird sprinklers. I bought 30 of them to connect to my piping and they are very easy to use. I've never done a back yard like this but here are some before and after pictures. Definitely a great product.

Moved into new (2005) home that needed a ton of work including replacing some sprinklers; this rain bird did the job perfectly! Original system had too many heads on the main line to the front yard and rather than tearing it all up (which will happen at a later date) we eliminated a few heads and put these long-shot pieces in. Great coverage and now the entire yard is greening back up!

100% failure rate in the three that I purchased from Home Depot. All three have wiper seal failure from the first moment of use with significant leakage while running at 30-40psi. One was missing the nozzle so that after installation on a test riser, it shot a long-rage stream out into neighboring property well beyond the specified range. All three shall be returned for replacement with another option. I'm disgusted that the product never made it past the most basic testing which I do before ever going to the trouble to put these blasted rotors into the landscaping. After three years of dealing with 100% of my Rain Bird pop-up rotor sprinklers failing in ONE short watering season or less, when they were never exposed to freezing weather, I'm done buying any more, and I'm absolutely disgusted.

Quiet operation. Easy to adjust the coverage area. Not well suited to small or medium sized yards because reducing the coverage diameter means using a very simplistic adjustment screw that is designed to obstruct and divert the spray. At the minimum setting, a large percentage of the water ends up as mist that blows away with the wind. While this pop-up rotor is usually reliably at first, none of the ones I have purchased from three different sources lasted longer than one season. At some point, after about six months of operation, they begin to stick in one position. That results in landscape damage if they are not watched constantly. Opening them up reveals no apparent reason for failure. It's as though the plastic gears are made of soap, dissolving as they are used. I never left mine out over winter, so none were ever exposed to freezing conditions. None were ever exposed to high-heat or high pressure that was over the specs. The system was always operating with more than adequate pressure, but the sticking tends to be worse at pressures lower in the specified range. About the time the rotor would quit, the water seal was also tending to break down, resulting in substantial leakage, loss of system pressure, and again, landscape damage. After wasting money on about 25 of these over the past three years, I have begun to migrate to a different brand and simpler fixed sprinklers which are far less expensive and far more reliable.
