Cuts watering system IF it happens to rain
Easy to install, but unknown if the unit works well since there has not been any rain to check. The mechanism is quite simple and the old unit could have easily been repaired by replacing only the switch, if it was made available. Since the old wiring went underground, I twisted and soldered the connect wiring, then applied heat shrink insulation tubing. I had to replace the new bracket with the old bracket because it was too short. A small level is handy.

Sensor worked as advertised. Installation and hookup were straight forward and easy to do. Finally had some rain last night and it worked to keep the sprinkler system from turning on this morning.

While the rain was pouring today, the auto watering started. This sensor apparently doesn’t work.

Response from Rain Bird MarketingAug 31, 2023
There are a number of potential reasons the rain sensor did not delay your automatic watering. First, it may be due to the installation location. You'll want to be sure you install the rain sensor in a location where it can collect natural precipitation without interference from man-made or natural obstructions. Avoid installing the sensor where the device’s ability to collect and record natural precipitation events are affected by sprinklers, rain gutters, trees, etc., where it could accumulate debris from trees, or in a location exposed to high winds. Secondly, the rainfall setting on the sensor, which determines the amount of rainfall needed to suspend the irrigation watering cycle, may be set to restrictively. You can adjust the rainfall setting from 1/8” to 3/4”, and adjustments are made by turning the sensor dial cap clockwise or counter clockwise. The ideal rainfall setting for your location depends on soil type, wind, amount of direct sunlight the sensor receives as well as frequency and amount of rainfall. Thirdly, after installation you'll want to test the sensor to ensure it is wired and working correctly. To test, turn the controller on to initiate irrigation, then hold down the plunger located on top of the rain sensor and the zone should turn off after a few seconds. If it doesn't turn off, check your rain sensor wire connections. If after double checking the aforementioned and you're still experiencing issues, we’d love to walk you through the steps to troubleshoot. Just reach out to our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) so we can help.

It worked great. We had recent rain and the controller recognized the signal from the rain sensor and shifted the next watering cycle to three days out, as expected.

      Works as described
Works as describes. Long cord to wire it in to the controller, there is some conflicting information on how far it can be from the control panel so I kept it close to be safe

The mounting bracket should allow it to be just snapped in place on the gutter. It's strong but not made for attaching after the gutter is in place. These sensors are not accurate. But it is better than nothing.
