Most led tubes will fit either a T8 or T12 fixtures, depending on compatibility. With this fixture, there is no compatibility issue because the ballast is disconnected, Once you disconnect the ballast, the light will no longer work with a fluorescent tube. This tube uses a direct wire from the electrical source instead of a ballast. It should last 5 years of 50,000 hours. If the bulb fails, you will need to replace it with a similar LED bulb

Yes, and the result was great, but we ended up having to hire an electrician to install. Requires cutting electric wires. Paid electrician $150, but got quotes as high as $320 for the same job.

You do NOT need to replace the fixture, but replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes requires that you make a simple modification to the wiring inside the fixture. Instructions are provided with this and any LED replacement tube. The changes require cutting a few wires to disconnect the ballast inside the fixture and then using wire nuts provided with the bulb to connect the proper wires. You will only need a screwdriver to open the fixture and a wire cutter. You can either leave the unused ballast inside the fixture or remove and recycle it with electronics recycling.

The box includes extra unshunted sockets to cover your scenario. You’d need to remove the existing shunted sockets to use these lights or the ones you already have.

Will this bulb work on both shunted and unshunted socket?

Asked by Scott December 27, 2017

This LED tube is single-end powered. Therefore, it needs a non-shunted tombstone at the powered end. The tombstone at the unpowered end may be shunted or non-shunted since there is no electrical connection at that end.

Are these bulbs dimmable with an LED rated dimmer?

No, but the lighting is perfect as is, no dimming needed.

So if my ballast is NG these will work in just replacing the bulb?

Asked by Charlie September 26, 2017

Answers

No. You will have to first remove or disconnect the ballast and rewire the fixture according to the instructions provided with the replacement tube. According to the manufacturer this is not complicated, but you will probably need a few tools such as a wire cutter (or nail clipper), wire stripper (or knife), and possibly some wire nuts. Some understanding of electricity and wiring would be a plus. Worst case, if you make a mistake in wiring, you might blow a fuse or trip a circuit breaker. In extreme situations a fire could result, too. If you are not comfortable with electricity, you should get help.

A perfect solution / upgrade for old fashion mercury bulbs needing a ballast. Just remove the ballast and provide this bulb with a hot connection and pow! Nice light color.. Bright.... Actually, I've been thinking... you could probably just shove the prongs on one of these bulbs into a wall socket / outlet and it would light up just fine!!! :) This is definitely the future of lighting!

Don’t let the shape scare you, these work great. I now have 12 of these tubes. The first thing that strikes you is the shape of the tubes. The triangle actually works pretty well to disburse the light. The color of the LEDs is really up to you. Make sure you make the right choice. The second thing you notice is you get to throw away your old hot, leaking ballast. These are direct wire. You simply cut out the transformer and wire directly to the lamp holders. The electronics inside the tube work to properly power the LEDs from standard main AC voltage, and work with all voltages in the world. Please note, very important: make sure to plug the bulb in properly so that the end marked A/C connects with the end wired to power. If you reverse it, the bulb appears dead. They need to be put in the proper way. My only suggestion to ToggLED would be to maybe color the “dead” end black or something similar, to make it obvious. I’ve now converted numerous lights in the rec-room and shop using these tubes. I’m not joking when I say that I notice the difference on my electric bill. I recommend these over the ones that don’t require rewire. They are more efficient. Plus, that ballast will die someday anyway, especially if the fixture is old. You do have to comfortable with taking apart a fluorescent fixture, and rewiring. The wiring is very simple, but that still scares some people. You’ll also have to create a jumper wire between lamp ends if it is a multiple light fixture. If that doesn’t make sense to you, go elsewhere, otherwise, this is a great choice. These 3 ft. tubes are just like my previous 4ft tubes. Lamp ends are included and seem to be of better quality than the ones I got earlier this year. I’m using these in a small closet mounted fixture and they provide plenty of light for this purpose, just as much if not more than the old tubes. Made in China
