does this bulb require a ballast
    ByMay 7, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

These Toggled tubes are Type-B (Ballast-bypass) and operate without a ballast. A simple retrofit rewiring of the fixture is required to bypass any existing ballast and connect the lampholders directly to the AC power.

Is there a wrong way to insert a led tube in a older fluorescent fixture?
        ByApr 8, 2026
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Toggled tubes are designed to bypass the ballast, so a simple re-wire is needed to accommodate our direct-wire design. Our tubes are single-ended power only. The powered end of the tube, marked with "AC Input", has to face the powered/wired end of the fixture. If the tube is installed backwards, it will not turn on. If you have any questions, please contact us anytime. We can be reached at 1-844-Toggled or at support@toggled.com.

Are there any similar products to this one with a higher brightness but with a warm color temperature (3000K or lower)? The brighter ones all seem to have a cooler temperature.
          ByFeb 10, 2026
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

This model (D416-30321) has 1900 lumens per tube. Our ultra-high output tubes have 4,000 lumens, but they're only available in 4000K, 5000K and 6500K temperatures. Unfortunately, they are not available in a 3000K option. Because Toggled LED tubes are designed to provide more focused light distribution, most of our customers comment that they find Toggled products to appear much brighter when converting from fluorescents. If you have any questions, please contact us directly at 1-844-Toggled or at support@toggled.com.

is this led bulb system energy star rated
                ByMay 17, 2025
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Energy Star does not accept LED tubes designed to replace fluorescent lamps in their program. However, many of our lamps are DLC (Design Lights Consortium) listed. DLC is an organization similar to Energy Star which is also used by many utility companies to qualify products for rebates. Convertered bedroom closet lights with these toggled LEDs which are brighter than the previous tubes. Very easy and the included tombstones made it even easier. Biggest problem is finding someone to take the old fluorescent tubes!

We sincerely apologize that the product did not meet your expectations. This model is our 5000K (Daylight) version, which provides a bright white light rather than a yellow tone. While we do offer other color temperatures that produce a warmer, more yellow appearance, the 5000K version should not appear yellow.

To confirm you have the correct model, please check the back of the tube for model number D416-50321, which identifies the 5000K version.

We would appreciate the opportunity to assist you further. Please contact us directly at 1-844-Toggled or email us at support@toggled.com.

I’ve been replacing regular fluorescent bulbs with this 16 watt daylight dimmable linear LED tube light bulbs, bypassing the ballast and they work great, the light is better and I don’t have to worry about replacing broken ballast anymore. I’m planning to keep doing the same with other lights in my store once I start having problems with the ballast.

Install information for old fixtures using low-profile tombstones/lamp holders
First, if you are considering a Toggled ballast bypass kit, go for it! Brighter light and no more failing ballast to worry about. Second, if you’ve never done any kind of electrical or wiring work, buy the kit, but call an electrician. Won’t take them long to install. (And you probably have bad switch or something else for them to fix anyway...) For you nitty-gritty, Do-It-Yourselfers, dig in! First, watch the Toggled videos. They help a lot. And DO glance at the included instructions. Contact Toggled if you have questions. I found them very helpful. Now, if you have an old, discontinued fixture with old, discontinued parts…the devil is in the details and this review should save you some legwork. My install adventure is based on the lamp holders, also called tombstones. The Toggled kit comes with nice lamp holders, but too big to fit my old Lithonia NY8 troffer fixture. The original, smaller lamp holders are discontinued, BUT Toggled has a newer replacement that fits. (See photos.) Basically, the base is thinner, the height smaller, and they are push/pull install and removal, not rotary like the ones that come with the kit. So, before you start your install, peek at your fixture’s tombstones. If there is one slot, you have a rotary tombstone and the included lamp holders should work. If there are two slots, then you have the push/pull tombstone and probably need to order replacements. Of note, lamp holders come shunted and nonshunted. The best layman’s explanation is think of shunted as shorted. Shunted lamp holders have a wire or metal bridge between the two sides. You don’t want that. You want NONshunted, where each side of the lamp holder is dedicated to its wire. The part numbers in this review are all for NONshunted lamp holders. You can buy lamp holders off the Toggled site. Plus, the part info is below and in the photos. Did find a couple of sellers on eBay. Toggled part Rapid-start, quick-wire, T8 Non-shunted lampholder 41-01764 (Model: Zing Ear FL-11-11) This Aug 12, 2016 Toggled video shows the smaller push/pull tombstones. Toggled direct wire (T8/T12) LED tube Installation Instructions https://youtu.be/fdcJ9dRYX1E? This newer Toggled video shows the bigger, rotary tombstones. Toggled LED Installation Using Pre-wired Lampholders https://youtu.be/57qmdsAsKmc? You can find many more helpful videos on how to do a ballast bypass, too. Now…you have your correct U-shaped tombstones, watched the videos, read the instructions, and are ready to install. You have wire cutters, wire strippers, screwdriver, and line power check tool to verify the line isn’t live. One side is not powered. That’s the easy side. Remove bracket, remove old tombstones, replace with new ones or clip wires off old ones. No wiring on this side. Lamp holder function on this side is…to hold lamps. For the powered side: I reused the wire from the pre-wired lamp holders by snipping it off. Wasn’t sure how long to make the stripped end for the new lamp holders, so gambled the pre-stripped end would work and it did! Perfect fit into the tiny wire hole. Using the prewired lamp holders as a guide, installed black (hot) on right side, white (neutral) on left side. Fortunately, the wire colors in the ceiling were the same. Easy matchy-matchy. Now, you can pop wired lamp holders onto bracket, run wires inside bracket to come cleanly out the middle slot. Trim the wires, strip the ends, and twist together. Pliers help with getting a nice twist. Reinstall bracket into fixture. Can be a bit fiddly to get it back into place. Attach all wires to the corresponding ceiling wire (hot to hot, neutral to neutral) and twist on wire nut. Give wire nut a little tug to make sure it’s secure. (Because my wire bundles were really thick, used wire nuts larger than ones in kit.) Showtime! Turn breaker back on, flip switch, and enjoy your new lights! I was so impressed with the first install, bought another set and did the matching fixture. Now both fixtures are just as bright (Daylight 5000K) use less energy, and no more failing ballast to worry about!

I have always had good experiences converting fluorescent fixtures to direct-wire LED using the Toggled products. Toggled is a good company, US-based, with product made in the US. When the fixture I am converting requires a bottom-post, non-shunted lampholder (see photo) unlike the more common lampholders that come with the Toggled kit, I just email Toggled and they send them to me. Great customer service.

LED Type B - No more energy sucking ballast
Finally upgraded my old fluorescent tube lights with these new Toggled LED replacements. These are Type B tubes which are designed to bypass the existing ballast and connect directly to the mains voltage. This leads to increased efficiency and reliability. It does take some effort and basic wiring skills to remove the ballast but if you are a reasonable DIY person, you can do this job. Love the energy efficient light and the 6500K is super bright white for our application.

Great tube bulbs. I had some old fluorescent fixtures that had the LED bulbs that would work with the old ballasts. Those bulbs were cheap to buy but didn't seem to last even a year before they flickered or either partially or full went out. They also had that faint buzzing sound since they still had ballasts in them. The conversion to these was easy, I didn't even have to change out the posts that hold the bulbs and make the connections. I saved the posts supplied with these bulbs in case I need to convert lights in the future. I much prefer the 3000K soft white color. It is much easier on my eyes than the 4000k and above colors. Those are whiter and glaring to me at 5000K and above. I also like the plastic tubes on these. It was a pain to dispose of 4 ft long glass tubes from the other bulbs.

Balast bypass bulb works great. Don't know about longevity yet...rewiring for balast removal is easy even if you have minimal electrical knowledge.
