Questions & Answers

Can you use a single light bulb in a two light fixture by it self??

Can you use a single light bulb in a two light fixture by it self??
Asked by: Kman
I just installed 4 Toggled LED bulbs. Each one takes its own 120v power source so each could have its own dimmer or even its own switch. In a 4-tube troffer, I have two LED Tubes connected to one switch and two tubes connected to a separate switch. That's how I used to control how much light the troffer would put out when they were fluorescent tubes. I'll set the lamps up with dimmers shortly.

From my reading, I understand that these tube type LED bulbs used to replace fluorescents can be of two types: "single-ended" or "double-ended". The single ended types have hot and ground at one end of the tube; the other end is used only to hold the bulb in the fixture. To use these, you must have "non-shunted" tomb stones (the name given to the stanchion that receives the two prongs at one end of the bulb). Only the double-ended bulbs can be directly inserted into a fluorescent fixture, once one has bypassed the ballast, because they have a hot pin at one end and a ground pin at the other. Which are these bulbs?
Asked by: Handyguy
Single ended and they provide all new tombstones. Easy install. Remove old ballast(s) to give you extra room.

what is the difference in T-8 and T-12
Asked by: Dave
Hi, Dave The T number refers to the diameter of the tube in eights of an inch. The T8 is 8/8ths, or 1 inch, and the T12 is 12/8ths or an inch and a half. You may also see some T5's out there, which are 5/8" diameter.

Do I have to change out the ballast for the LED bulbs?

Asked by: Daniel
No ballast needed. I cut the wires at the ballast and left it in the fixture.

Very bright and the feel of the tubes are futuristic compared to old florescent (not glass and safety is perfect). The cost (full price $20) is equivalent when considered the tombstones are included (a $10 value) and making each bulb then $5. The box is not clear if powered by one end or both so thought you may like a confirmation it is powered by one end (type b single end and bi pin on both sides to fit standard t8/t12 tombstones). Would completely recommend this brand and everyone should convert to this LED single powered end you will not regret this choice when done. Getting rid of ballast with this bi pass style LED bulb is the future. I replaced four of the old style with two of these bulbs and very happy and saved cost. Also, company will answer your questions via their 800# and were exceptional with technical questions and customer service (in USA and not some over seas operator).

I'm replacing all the fluorescent bulbs in my house (kitchen, bathrooms, closets and garage) with these. Everything you need for installation is included along with good instructions. The rewiring required is easy and after you do the first one, you will be able to do it in a couple of minutes. They don't use any power wasting ballast (no humming or buzzing and no RF interference with other electronics), and if they ever do go bad,(none of mine have), you won't have to try to figure out if it's a bad bulb or a bad ballast... what a pain. I have some on dimmers and they work very well. The 3000K bulbs have a softer browner color more like a regular incandescent bulb. They work well in a room with reddish or brownish colors. For an area with blues and greens the 6000K model would be a better choice. And I haven't even mentioned the power savings!

Toggled LED light kit I purchased and installed this kit, Toggled 48" T8 5000K dimmable LED 2 pack, about 3 weeks ago they are working fine and the install was a breeze. I am planning on purchasing another set to replace another florescent tube set for the back yard patio area soon. If you have watched videos to see how to make the switch to the LED light tubes, great, me too. But with this kit which includes everything needed to do the switch over, I did not need to cut a wire or take down the light fixture. Take a look at the box, the kit includes, 2 LED tubes, 2 pre wired tombstones, 2 non wired tombstones (to hold the other end of the light tube), wire nuts and the modification labels (mine had 2 of those). So, I just undid the power connection to the ballast and removed the tombstones and the ballast all together. The power supply to my light fixture came in from the end, so I had plenty of wire to connect the pre-wired tombstones. If your fixture has the power supply lines coming from the middle you may need to measure to be sure you have enough wire to reach the pre-wire tombstones. After that, all you need to do is snap in the provided parts, wire up the connections, put the light tubes in and then flip the circuit breaker back on and flip the light switch an there should be light. Also, I purchased the 5000K tubes, they are a bit bright, but they are dimmable, but for now I will leave them as they are and get used to the extra light.

Upgraded our kitchen light fixtures (3) as the ballast were failing. This was quite an easy upgrade and should have been done earlier. Lights are bright and I can seriously get by with just two bulbs in staggered fixtures, instead of 6 old fluorescents. I will buy some cool white bulbs and play around with the lighting color combinations. Test socket ends before taking down fixture. If they are correct and wired correctly like mine were it was not worth taking down the fixture and made for a speedy upgrade. Cut old wires not being used, removed ballast and correctly wire up the power end sockets to incoming power.

I used these bulbs to replace old T12 fluorescent bulbs in 5 older fixtures. All parts necessary to do this were in the package. I removed the ballast, installed the new end pieces that were provided and easily installed the new bulbs. They worked great and were nice and bright. Out of the 10 bulbs I installed, one of them had a slight defect. It appears that the LED strip is attached (glued?) to the top of the bulb tube. About 6 inches of this LED strip had come loose on one end of the bulb and was laying down on the bottom inside of the tube. It still gave off light but you could see the individual LEDs rather clearly. overall they installed quickly and easily.

I started off trying to use the bulbs that worked with the ballast but it turned out that my ballast was the problem so I returned those and bought these. Installation was fairly easy, make sure you follow the directions. The only problem I had was that when I turned them on, nothing happened. I removed the bulbs and noticed that there was a small printed circuit board inside the lamps, on one end, you can see it through the tube. I turned the lamps around so this board was on the powered end and they both lit up. These bulbs are not as bright as some of the ones I have seen but are perfectly adequate for my 10 X 14 kitchen.

I switched our fluorescent light fixture to an LED light fixture using this product. Absolutely awesome product and light fixture. The instructions are not very clear (to a non-electrician), but the on-line video helped me remove the old ballast/fluorescent wiring and tombstones, replace and easily install these LED bulbs. We are so very satisfied by the light quality and the more environmentally friendly and money saving features provided by this LED light product. Highly recommend this product and especially switching from fluorescent to LED lighting.

Light works great, I was looking for a LED that I could use without the ballast. These did the trick. Replaced existing florescent bulbs in kitchen light. These were a little bright, so I put in a dimmer switch. It is probably the dimmer switch, but I wish they would dim a little more than they do when it is turned down as low as it can go. The light comes with everything you need to rewire the light. If you are taking out an old ballast save some the wires. I had to slice some to get the wires to reach the hot wires coming out of the ceiling.
