Product Overview

Toggled LED tubes are designed to replace T8 and T12 fluorescent tubes. These UL Listed, FCC compliant LED products use only 16-Watt of energy and are rated for 50,000 hours with a lifetime residential warranty. In addition, Toggled LED lights eliminate ballast systems, reduce facility lighting costs, enhance the quality of light and are mercury free. Installation requires basic re-wiring around ballast systems to non-shunted lamp holders. These lamps have a single ended power design to improve safety and prevent accidental shock. Non-shunted lamp holders are included with every tube to replace shunted lamp holders in lighting fixtures if necessary. toggled is a Michigan based manufacturer of LED products.

Too easy to upgrade.
This kit came with everything you need to update old lights. Easy to do, even has videos you can watch before tackling this project. I'm happy I finally have a QUIET working light.

Shipped to home, arrived well packaged and within delivery window. Instructions were clear and simple. All parts were present, including wire nuts and replacement "tombstone" ends. I had two fixtures converted from fluorescent to LED within 30 minutes. The "tubes" are triangular, and the dark side (where the back of the led ribbon lays) fits nicely against the center cavity or back where the ballast formerly sat. You need to be attentive to put them in the fixtures right or you have a dark stripe down one side. A big plus is they are plastic, so much safer than exposed glass tubes in a shop or low stairwell. They are about 50% brighter than the fluorescent tubes (T12) that they replaced, and give just as even light. One other reviewer mentioned that the ends are dark for about 3". This is true, but in a fixture I didn't find it noticeable. Rated for 50,000 hours -- will they really last that long? Only time will tell. My only negative comments are: 1) the leads from the replacement connectors are only about 18" long. If your wires enter the fixture in the middle, you will have to splice in an extra piece of wire. For a 4' tube they should be 24" long - why cheap-out on an otherwise good quality conversion kit? 2) I ordered the 3000K lights for the warm white look. They look a bit more yellow than an incandescent warm white bulb, (perhaps 2400K?) but are within an acceptable range. I would definitely buy them again.

      First Time User
My T8 bulbs needed to be replaced in my laundry room. Went to pick up the standard fluorescent tubes and just happened to see these. I had looked at different brands before, just had not taken the plunge. After looking over the package, decided to give them a try. Looked over the instructions and watched the installation video and no problems. Simple install and work great. I will be replacing my other fluorescent fixtures with these bulbs. No more ballast or glass tubes to replace. Disposing of fluorescent tubes can also be a real problem in some areas. I am 68 years old and not an electrician, just have always done my own plumbing and electrical work on my home.

Too Short for Standard Shop Light Fixture
I’m an electrician, so I had no problem rewireing a garage fixture to eliminate the ballast. Unfortunately, these tube lamps are manufactured about a half-inch too short, causing an insecure fit. I had to wrap wire around the tubes to keep them from falling out. I’ll be looking for a different brand of retrofit LED tubes to replace the remainder of my fixtures. I’m very surprised that only a few others have the same issue. My purchase may have been from a bad batch.

Easy solution to old temperamental ballast
I was tired of having to flick the switch two or more times to get the fluorescent fixture in our laundry room to light up, so I decided to try this Toggle kit since it bypasses the ballast. I found the instructions a little confusing since I wasn’t sure about the shunting it references, but a quick YouTube video was all I needed. Since you can choose which end is the “powered” end, in our two bulb fixture I simply chose the end that had two wires attached to the ballast from each holder. I cut those four wires at the ballast, stripped the insulation at the end, disconnected the power from the ballast and attached the black to one wire from each holder and attached the white to the other wire from each holder. I didn’t do anything to the holders or wires at the other end. I then put the metal cover back on and applied the included label to indicate the powered end. Be sure to attach the bulb(s) with the end labeled “AC input” at the powered end and you’ll be good to go. I chose cool white for the laundry since I find “daylight” to be too blue. Next project is to convert the 16 constantly humming double fluorescent up-light fixtures in our cedar walled great room. For that we will save a few bucks by ordering dimmable soft white bulbs in bulk directly from Toggle since I now know we don’t need the new holders included in this kit.

            Great product
The Toggled LED tubes are much better than the florescent tubes. They are instant on, dimmable, bright, use less than half the energy (when dimmed, even less), and a whiter light that gives a better appearance. I recently replaced the florescent tube lights that back light my glass block bar to Toggled dimmable LED replacement tube lights. The back lighting is with 2 four foot tubes, 2 three foot tubes, and 2 two foot tubes. I bought the 4 foot models at my local HD. The three and two foot models had to be bought on- line. This change was made so the lights can be dimmed…not necessarily to save energy, although it is a plus. I replaced the Cool White Florescent tubes with Cool White Toggled dimmable models. There is a conversion process since the ballast is not used, and power only goes to one end of the tube. Installation is fairly easy. It was more difficult for me since I did the minimum of change so I could reinstall the florescent tubes if they did not work out. I admit that I was skeptical that they would work as well as they do. If I had to do it over, I would have followed the Toggle instructions completely to make installation easier. I did have a problem with the dimmer when converting to Toggled LEDs. In the past I just used the same dimmer that was installed for the incandescent lights, and the LEDs work fine. I am tempted to knock off a star because of this: you cannot use just any dimmer, even if the dimmer is advertised compatible with LEDs I recommend that you select a dimmer from the list of compatible dimmers on the Toggled website. My HD has two of the recommended dimmers on hand: a Lutron Skylark, CTCL-153P and a Leviton Decora Slide Dimmer, DSL06. I chose the Lutron. The Toggled lights dim down nicely and I was able to achieve the lighting effect that I wanted.

This product is a retrofit for 4 ft fluorescent tubes. The ballast is removed and the tube holders/ contacts are replaced (included). This is because the LEDs are single-end powered. Only the one end is connected to power. The tubes must be installed with the correct end (marked) in the powered socket. These tubes are not direct replacements for fluorescent tubes. The retrofit is easy and can be done with the existing fixture remaining in the ceiling. I recommend this retrofit. It eliminates the power wasting ballast. The LEDs can be dimmed. They are brighter than the fluorescents and come on instantly. I used a Lutron dimmer TGCL-153PR-WH. It is made for diimable LEDs and fluorescents. (available at Home Depot)

The LED bulb requires rewiring of the ceiling fixture with the provided end caps. Our ceiling fixture is over 20 years old and the snaps that hole the mounting sockets are not compatible with the end caps, thus we never got past the instructions and cannot use the product. The Home Depot Web site never mentioned it wasn't a plug-and-play light tube and required a non-reversible modification the the ceiling fixture.
