The CRI is 83.

Are these safe?

Answer

We've had no problems with ours -- about 30 of them. But they are direct-wire: you have to bypass the ballasts, even if they are the newer electronic ballasts, so make sure you turn of the power before you start work. Many of our ballasts were the ancient magnetic kind and were leaking nasty stuff, so we discarded them altogether and didn't just bypass them.

Do I have to do any wiring or will these fit right into most florescent fixtures?

Yes, you need to rewire. And some youtube videos show you how to do it. Remove the old sockets and their wire. Gently pull while twisting back/forth the old wire and the wire will come out. If the old sockets are non-shunted ( I had a set of rapid-start ballasts that use non-shunted) and look good, rewire them for the powered end in parallel with an extra two leads to to be connected to the black/white power wires. There was enough old black/white wire from the cut ballast wires that I was to rewire using only black/white wires, so it all matches. The other end, just remove their wire; they are used just to support the new tubes at the unpowered end. I rewired all 4 sockets at the powered end because it was easy to do, and later determined to locate two Toggled tubes in the center of the 4-fluorescent tube troffer. The black/white jumpers between the sockets are 7.5 inches long with 1/2 inch stripped from each end (for a 4-tube-troffer). So two Toggled tubes ( I chose soft white 3000k) replaced 4 old fluorescent tubes, and I used Lutron dimmer TGCL-153PH-WH which works great with no hum/flicker and is on Toggled's compatibility list.

What dimmer is recommended for these

I used Lutron dimmer TGCL-153PH-WH for Toggled's 4-ft soft white 3000k direct wire LED tube Model #D416-30321-2 (2-tube pack). It's a lower cost dimmer, and operates with no hum nor flicker. This Lutron dimmer is on Toggled's compatibility list by tube model; great to have such a list from a manufr. But this list does not have cost comparison, and is a bit ambiguous, ie might direct you to a higher cost and/or ugly dimmer. That's why I tested this nice looking small slide Lutron dimmer against one troffer I rewired for these direct wire tubes. And I am enjoying the change from fluorescent.

Try both 4000 and 5000. In my local store, they had three selection. 4000, 5000 and 6500. 6500 is your typical LED flashlight bluish white. 5000 is a bit bluish, but depending on the tinge and conditions of the luminaire covers and room wall color, it maybe a better choice. It's a matter of personal choice.

The kit comes with 4 brand new Tombstones (non-shunted), 2 bulbs, wire and wire nuts, 2 each decals to mark the AC end of the fixture when you rewire the fixture.

Easy solution to old temperamental ballast
I was tired of having to flick the switch two or more times to get the fluorescent fixture in our laundry room to light up, so I decided to try this Toggle kit since it bypasses the ballast. I found the instructions a little confusing since I wasn’t sure about the shunting it references, but a quick YouTube video was all I needed. Since you can choose which end is the “powered” end, in our two bulb fixture I simply chose the end that had two wires attached to the ballast from each holder. I cut those four wires at the ballast, stripped the insulation at the end, disconnected the power from the ballast and attached the black to one wire from each holder and attached the white to the other wire from each holder. I didn’t do anything to the holders or wires at the other end. I then put the metal cover back on and applied the included label to indicate the powered end. Be sure to attach the bulb(s) with the end labeled “AC input” at the powered end and you’ll be good to go. I chose cool white for the laundry since I find “daylight” to be too blue. Next project is to convert the 16 constantly humming double fluorescent up-light fixtures in our cedar walled great room. For that we will save a few bucks by ordering dimmable soft white bulbs in bulk directly from Toggle since I now know we don’t need the new holders included in this kit.

Great product
The Toggled LED tubes are much better than the florescent tubes. They are instant on, dimmable, bright, use less than half the energy (when dimmed, even less), and a whiter light that gives a better appearance. I recently replaced the florescent tube lights that back light my glass block bar to Toggled dimmable LED replacement tube lights. The back lighting is with 2 four foot tubes, 2 three foot tubes, and 2 two foot tubes. I bought the 4 foot models at my local HD. The three and two foot models had to be bought on- line. This change was made so the lights can be dimmed…not necessarily to save energy, although it is a plus. I replaced the Cool White Florescent tubes with Cool White Toggled dimmable models. There is a conversion process since the ballast is not used, and power only goes to one end of the tube. Installation is fairly easy. It was more difficult for me since I did the minimum of change so I could reinstall the florescent tubes if they did not work out. I admit that I was skeptical that they would work as well as they do. If I had to do it over, I would have followed the Toggle instructions completely to make installation easier. I did have a problem with the dimmer when converting to Toggled LEDs. In the past I just used the same dimmer that was installed for the incandescent lights, and the LEDs work fine. I am tempted to knock off a star because of this: you cannot use just any dimmer, even if the dimmer is advertised compatible with LEDs I recommend that you select a dimmer from the list of compatible dimmers on the Toggled website. My HD has two of the recommended dimmers on hand: a Lutron Skylark, CTCL-153P and a Leviton Decora Slide Dimmer, DSL06. I chose the Lutron. The Toggled lights dim down nicely and I was able to achieve the lighting effect that I wanted.

This product is a retrofit for 4 ft fluorescent tubes. The ballast is removed and the tube holders/ contacts are replaced (included). This is because the LEDs are single-end powered. Only the one end is connected to power. The tubes must be installed with the correct end (marked) in the powered socket. These tubes are not direct replacements for fluorescent tubes. The retrofit is easy and can be done with the existing fixture remaining in the ceiling. I recommend this retrofit. It eliminates the power wasting ballast. The LEDs can be dimmed. They are brighter than the fluorescents and come on instantly. I used a Lutron dimmer TGCL-153PR-WH. It is made for diimable LEDs and fluorescents. (available at Home Depot)

The LED bulb requires rewiring of the ceiling fixture with the provided end caps. Our ceiling fixture is over 20 years old and the snaps that hole the mounting sockets are not compatible with the end caps, thus we never got past the instructions and cannot use the product. The Home Depot Web site never mentioned it wasn't a plug-and-play light tube and required a non-reversible modification the the ceiling fixture.

My home has several T12 fluorescent fixtures whose ballasts are starting to fail, making increasingly louder humming sounds. While shopping for a replacement ballast I found these LED bulbs for roughly the same price. Installation was very fast (about 15 minutes) and no more humming! It converts a two-bulb fixture (80 watts total) into a 32-watt fixture, for a savings of about 60 percent in energy use. But, the bulbs focus the light more directly downward, making them brighter than the original 80 watts of fluorescent light without any added harshness. I plan to replace all of my T12 fluorescent lights with these LEDs as the bulbs burn out or the ballasts start to fail.

These are direct wire LED bulbs. The ballast must be removed! It takes about 15 minutes to replace old fluorescent 40 watt bulbs with new 9 watt LED bulbs. Simple straightforward process. Looking forward to the huge Energy savings. These 5k bulbs are ideal for the garage. Very happy.

A quick, easy, and affordable upgrade of our kitchen light from fluorescent F40T-8 to dimmable LED. The included tombstone ends and wire nuts made the conversion very simple. The wired tombstones had just enough wire length. No extra wire was needed. These old eyes appreciate the added brightness. A dimmer was added to allow for a softer effect if needed. The daylight spectrum color is a welcomed addition during the dark winter days. So far this product seems to be an excellant value. I can't give any feedback as far as reliability as it was just installed today.
