From my reading, I understand that these tube type LED bulbs used to replace fluorescents can be of two types: "single-ended" or "double-ended". The single ended types have hot and ground at one end of the tube; the other end is used only to hold the bulb in the fixture. To use these, you must have "non-shunted" tomb stones (the name given to the stanchion that receives the two prongs at one end of the bulb). Only the double-ended bulbs can be directly inserted into a fluorescent fixture, once one has bypassed the ballast, because they have a hot pin at one end and a ground pin at the other. Which are these bulbs?
Asked by: Handyguy
These are single-ended tubes. I installed in an existing T-12 fluorescent fixture. The existing T-12 "tombstone" lamp holders were already of the "non-shunted" type so I did not have to replace them with the ones provided in the box. A really simple install - cut out the old ballast, wire tombstones on one end of each tube to 120 VAC Hot (black) and Neutral (white), insert the LED tubes, and turn on. Always check for non-shunted vs shunted holders, but, that is an easy check with a volt/ohm meter and power OFF. I only did two of the 4 tubes in the fixture just to try them. Next to the LEDs, the remaining old fluorescent tubes in the fixture look like they're burned out, but, they aren't.

Can you use a single light bulb in a two light fixture by it self??
Asked by: Kman
I just installed 4 Toggled LED bulbs. Each one takes its own 120v power source so each could have its own dimmer or even its own switch. In a 4-tube troffer, I have two LED Tubes connected to one switch and two tubes connected to a separate switch. That's how I used to control how much light the troffer would put out when they were fluorescent tubes. I'll set the lamps up with dimmers shortly.

what is the difference in T-8 and T-12
Asked by: Dave
Hi, Dave The T number refers to the diameter of the tube in eights of an inch. The T8 is 8/8ths, or 1 inch, and the T12 is 12/8ths or an inch and a half. You may also see some T5's out there, which are 5/8" diameter.

Do I have to change out the ballast for the LED bulbs?

Asked by: Daniel
No ballast needed. I cut the wires at the ballast and left it in the fixture.

The 2 bulb pack had the end parts for each bulb to convert from a fluorescent ballast driven fixture to a direct wired LED that I needed. I did have to splice in some extra wire to make the ends meet but did have that & you really do need an understanding of wiring & mechanical skills to be successful & those that don't have much of either are probably the ones with bad reviews. It took about an hour with the fixture in place in the ceiling to change out the ends that did fit my fixture perfectly & the total changeover.bulbs installed. The biggest drawback would be if they hadn't supplied the ends needed to make this work or if they didn't fit my fixture. I am so very pleased with the change & the light the bulbs put out great light. The energy savings is the icing on top. Check the ends on your fixture before starting & make sure they are compatible if so you're all set. Great product

Very bright and the feel of the tubes are futuristic compared to old florescent (not glass and safety is perfect). The cost (full price $20) is equivalent when considered the tombstones are included (a $10 value) and making each bulb then $5. The box is not clear if powered by one end or both so thought you may like a confirmation it is powered by one end (type b single end and bi pin on both sides to fit standard t8/t12 tombstones). Would completely recommend this brand and everyone should convert to this LED single powered end you will not regret this choice when done. Getting rid of ballast with this bi pass style LED bulb is the future. I replaced four of the old style with two of these bulbs and very happy and saved cost. Also, company will answer your questions via their 800# and were exceptional with technical questions and customer service (in USA and not some over seas operator).

I started off trying to use the bulbs that worked with the ballast but it turned out that my ballast was the problem so I returned those and bought these. Installation was fairly easy, make sure you follow the directions. The only problem I had was that when I turned them on, nothing happened. I removed the bulbs and noticed that there was a small printed circuit board inside the lamps, on one end, you can see it through the tube. I turned the lamps around so this board was on the powered end and they both lit up. These bulbs are not as bright as some of the ones I have seen but are perfectly adequate for my 10 X 14 kitchen.

I purchased this one thinking it was plug and play, with no idea what "toggled" meant. When they didn't work, I looked online, and saw that I would have to replace ballast and lamp holders. I looked up the price of lamp holders, and just for the heck of it, looked at the box these bulbs were in. I was happy to see "Includes easy-install, pre-wired lamp holders." I was able to rewire my ceiling fixture in-place, with a time between circuit breaker off to on of about five minutes! I will never buy "plug and play" again.

Light works great, I was looking for a LED that I could use without the ballast. These did the trick. Replaced existing florescent bulbs in kitchen light. These were a little bright, so I put in a dimmer switch. It is probably the dimmer switch, but I wish they would dim a little more than they do when it is turned down as low as it can go. The light comes with everything you need to rewire the light. If you are taking out an old ballast save some the wires. I had to slice some to get the wires to reach the hot wires coming out of the ceiling.

I was able to eliminate the ballast because these bulbs operate at 120 volts which feed one end of the tube. They are made of plastic which eliminates the possibility of glass breakage. They are realistic color rendering at 3000 kelvin unlike the 5000 kelvin cool white (Blue) that the stores insist on stocking. Being LED, they each use only 16 watts compared to 32 to 40 watts used by fluorescent bulbs. They are much brighter than the old T12 bulbs, but I do not know if the lumens will deteriorate with time as the old tubes do.

I installed two of these bulbs yesterday and am very happy with this product. If you know anything at all about electricity, it will be easy to install. The instruction video is very good. The 3000K lamp is a little warmer than I would prefer but it is perfectly acceptable. The 4000K (cool white) is a little too cool for me. A little more than twice the price of a fluorescent replacement. The tubes are made of plastic so they are not easily broken and no chance of broken glass all over the place.

I used these to replace some dimmable fluorescent lamps in the family room. The dimmer died and destroyed 2 of the ballasts along with it. Everything that you need is included in this 2-pack kit! I only had to drill out the mounting holes, for the replacement tombstones, on one fixture due to the age of the fixture that was different from the rest. It took me less than 30 minutes to preform the upgrade for each single-lamp fixture. I was really impressed with the quality of this product.
