The generator company chosen by HomeDepot was unprofessional and poorly communicated the extensive details of this project. I ended up being the project manager. I had to schedule all the propane and electrical work and inspections. They simply asked for their money at the end. Their sales rep incredibly undersold how much time and work it would be for me and then we never heard from him again. How was I to know how this would work? Didn't I hire them to provide a service? The generator company merely sent me texts and the minute the project was completed, hounded me for final payment. Except they should pay me for all the run around and coordinating I did for them. Don't trust Home Depot to find someone for your job.

Chris from tri state arrived on ti, installed the generator in a very timely fashion and treated The installation like he was doing it for his own home. Generator operation was explained and demonstrated. Cleanup was performed and he ensured I was satisfied with the backfill on the trenching he did from the propane tank to the generator. The only regret I have is that Cris lives In Missouri and won?t be the service man I would see from time to times I thoroughly trust his honesty, integrity and craftsmanship.

I love Home Depot, and I felt comfortable when I made the choice to get a Generac installed through Home Depot. I had no issues paying a premium to go through Home Depot. The confusion, and frustration working with Canter Power systems is just not worth it. At the beginning I was told the lead item, the Generator arrival would be the major holdup. The Generator and transfer switch, and other electronics set on my driveway unprotected for 3 weeks before installation started. The installer, Coastal Repair Solutions led by John Knot did a great job. Many people in my neighborhood have asked about my Generac installation experience. I cannot recommend the process I went through with Home Depot. There are other local installers that could have easily made this experience a much better one.

Generac makes reliable generators for any situation, from portable generators to home standby generators. You can rely on Generac generators for seamless power during a power outage.
Generac's Guardian Series of whole home generators range in wattage from 7,500 watts to 65,000 watts, which is enough power at the starting point to run necessary appliances for most homes. Generac generators include an automatic transfer switch that shifts the essential load to the home backup generator when the power goes out. With OHVI engines that run on dual fuel options (propane and natural gas), you can rest assured that your whole house isn't reliant on just one fuel type.
We recommend finding the wattage of the appliances and fixtures you want to run should an outage occur, then opt for a generator that will exceed the combined wattage of all your appliances. If you're interested in automatic standby generator installation from The Home Depot, talk to one of our generator installation experts about your needs during a free in-home consultation.

Kohler's home standby generators range in wattage from 7,500 watts to 65,000 watts—plenty to power most homes during a power outage. Equipped with standard automatic transfer switches, which shift your home's electrical demands from the utility to the grid, Kohler's backup power systems will safely kick on automatically. You won't need to worry about refueling, as Kohler generators run on dual fuel: natural gas and liquid propane, so delivery isn't reliant on electricity.
Kohler's 8 kW and 12 kW home generators include the Oncue plus generator management system. It's a remote monitoring system that lets you monitor and control your generator system from anywhere. Kohler power systems run quietly like an air conditioner for a seamless transition in the event of a power outage.
Choose a Kohler standby generator by listing all the appliances that you'd want to power during an outage. Choose a generator with enough power to exceed the total wattage of all your home's electrical demands so that you know you’re covered. Ask a generator installation pro about the right Kohler generator for your needs during an in-home consultation.

Briggs & Stratton is known for supplying reliable emergency and home standby power, portable generators for the jobsite, and more. When a loss of power can be anything from an inconvenience to a critical emergency, you can count on an automatic standby generator to take over in the event of a power outage.
Most Briggs & Stratton generators are dual fuel, meaning they'll run on natural gas and propane fuel types. Wattages range from 10,000 watts to 60,000 watts, which covers homes and electrical demands of all sizes. Most necessary household appliances can run on the lower end of that range.
Choose from Briggs & Stratton power generators with features like low oil shutdown, fire resistance, idle control, InfoHub wireless monitoring, and Symphony II Power Management to control the distribution of power to select appliances and prevent overloads. With air-cooled and liquid-cooled options, know that there's a home backup generator for all circuit breakers. Talk to a local, authorized generator installation pro from The Home Depot about your installation options and finding the ideal wattage generator for your home.

Generac’s Protector Series is a line of premium home backup generators for residential backup power. Ideal for larger homes, these standby generators are diesel generators that can also run on natural gas or liquid propane fuel types, depending on the model. Built with all-aluminum enclosures, these high-quality Protector generators reliably run in any weather condition.
The Protector Series' fully automated transfer switch ensures the power outages give you minimal disruption. All Generac Protector backup generators run a weekly self-test to confirm the system is running properly. Generac's version of this, called Quiet-Test, runs its test at a lower RPM, which can be programmed to run weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
Connect your Wi-Fi ready Generac Protector to Mobile Link, the remote monitoring suite that lets you check your generator status from anywhere. If needed, you can connect your account to your service dealer for quick assistance and peace of mind. With 5, 7, or 10-year limited warranties, rest assured your Generac generator is covered. Our generator installation experts will help you find the right automatic backup power system. Schedule a free in-home consultation to learn more about installation.

We perform background checks on all our generator installers before we send them on any job to ensure they are licensed and insured.
Backed by a one-year minimum service warranty, we offer liquid- or air-cooled generators to keep your essential appliances working seamlessly when the power goes out. We'll help with your home-energy assessment and find the most efficient home generator for you and your budget. If you qualify for The Home Depot’s Project Loan, you can have an automatic standby generator installed for as little as $125 per month (based on average generator and installation costs). When you hire The Home Depot for your generator installation, you can feel confident we'll get the job done right and stand behind our work.
When utility power and electricity is lost—whether it’s due to a storm, equipment failure, or something else—your installed standby generator is ready to help keep your home running smoothly. Always in standby mode, the generator will sense the power is out and turn on automatically to restore electricity within seconds. While everyone else is left in the dark, your standby generator quickly restores electricity in your home to keep your appliances, lights, and other electrical equipment operating normally. When utility power returns, the generator senses the change and returns to standby mode, ready for the next emergency.
### Installing a Home Generator
If you’re interested in a home generator, a local installer will perform a free in-home consultation to determine the ideal generator size for your home and needs. Depending on the extent of your standby power needs, our generators can power everything from air conditioning units to security systems and kitchen appliances with no refueling or extension cords needed.
During setup, your installer also will help determine the best placement for your generator outside your home. Here are some things our generator installer will look for:
After safely installing and connecting the gas line, the local installer will check for leaks to ensure your generator is properly installed and ready to act as an emergency power source for your home. Although battery power may be used during installation, the generator still needs to be activated via prompts for a full system setup. Once activated by the installer, your new generator will be ready to automatically turn on in the event of a power outage.
The Home Depot installs whole-house backup power solutions that manage your home’s emergency power needs with a flexible, low cost platform from leading brands such as Briggs & Stratton, Generac, and Kohler. Let us install a home generator capable of handling life’s emergencies for you today.
Natural gas is the most common option fuel for whole home generators, supplied directly through your home's utility line.
Liquid propane requires a storage tank, but is great for homes with no access to natural gas.
Portable generators are mobile, much less expensive and don't require installation. However, they can be loud, need to be refueled manually and cannot be used indoors.
A whole house generator is a more expensive, but has much higher capacity and turns on automatically when your power goes out.
