Will Home Depot dispose of my old windows?
Yes. Your old windows will be removed and disposed of for free with your Wood Window Installation purchase from Home Depot.
Do Home Depot window installers frame my window during installation?
Yes, Home Depot offers full-frame window installation as well as pocket installation. Full-frame window installation means your entire existing window is removed, including the frame and trim. You may want to consider full-frame installation if your existing wood window frames are rotting or can't be repaired. Other reasons you might select full-frame installation are to increase energy efficiency and if the new window is a different size from the existing one. If your existing window frames are in good condition, pocket installation, or insert window installation, is typically the best choice. With pocket installation, a brand new window is placed within an existing window frame.
Does The Home Depot offer warranties on window installation?
Yes. We back our installation services with a limited installation warranty. Your windows will also come with a manufacturer’s product warranty. Ask your consultant or a store associate for details.

Before one of our local installers comes to your home for the installation, remove any blinds, window treatments, and security sensors on your window. Product Questions
Will I see energy savings from replacing my windows?
In general, replacing old, drafty or poorly insulated single-pane windows with new, double-pane Energy Star windows will help you save on energy costs over time. Installing energy efficient windows can also increase your home value.

To get an idea of the impact of energy efficient replacement windows, consider that energy costs account for 25% of the average household's energy bill. The less energy efficient your home is, the more energy is required from your heating and cooling system to keep it comfortable.

Also, keep in mind that many factors other than window glass and frame materials contribute to home energy efficiency, such as climate, utility rates, insulation and more. Learn more about energy efficient windows from Andersen, our top wood window installation supplier.
How do I know if my windows need to be replaced?
It may be time to install new windows if you feel a draft coming from a closed window or see frequent condensation buildup. Other things to watch for include windows that are more and more difficult to open or warping, rotting or otherwise damaged frames. You may also want to replace a window to update the look and feel of your home. We recommend having your windows inspected by a licensed professional after 20-25 years to see if they need to be replaced.
How do I know if wooden windows are right for my home?
Wood window installation is a timeless choice for any home. Wood replacement windows may be right for you if you like the warmth and durability of natural materials and don't mind paying higher upfront costs or performing required maintenance (keeping wooden windows painted or stained is crucial to preventing wood rot or drying out). As wood windows are a premium feature, especially in historic or high-end homes, it can increase the value of a home.Wood is also a sustainable choice for windows, as it is a good insulator and can outlast alternatives if properly maintained.
How long will my wooden windows last?
Most wood windows should last between 20-40 years depending on the amount of direct sun exposure they have. Wood windows offer a great replacement solution, as they have a long life expectancy when properly maintained.
How do I maintain wooden windows?

Wood windows must be painted or stained immediately after installation to prevent damage, discoloration, and/or warping or cracking. Proper care and maintenance is also often required by product and/or installation warranties.

Clean wood windows as needed by vacuuming up dirt from sills, tracks and screens and wiping wood frames with a non-abrasive window cleaner or a mixture of water and rubbing alcohol or ammonia. Clean wood window panes or glass with a glass cleaner and lint-free cloth or paper towel. After cleaning is a good time to apply lubricant to any hardware or moving parts.

Every 6 to 12 months, inspect wood windows to check for proper functioning and any damage, and repair, repaint, or restain as needed. See Home Depot’s Window Installation Care and Maintenance Guide to learn more.

    Are wooden windows weatherproof?
No, wooden windows are not weatherproof. While wood windows are very durable, they require more upkeep and maintenance than a vinyl window, such as painting, caulking and regular cleaning of dirt and mildew.
What are the best types of wood for window frames?
Pine is considered the best due to affordability and ease of use. It is commonly found in clad-wood windows from manufacturers like Andersen Windows.

    1) - The person who came to measure the windows did not communicate ahead of time that he was coming and showed up on Sunday afternoon to measure. Poor communication. 2) The windows were measure incorrectly resulting in longer windows which meant bigger cut outs on the windows. This resulted in our shutters that we were going to reuse being too short for our new windows, no we have to purchase new shutters for 15 windows. Added expense for us!!!! 3) There were not enough guys sent out to do the job in a timely manner; therefore, it took longer to complete the job, and the guys were here very late at night. 4) We feel that we spent too much money for the product/service provided and definitely are not satisfied with the results. We will NOT be recommending your product/service to others.

My project began in mid-March 2026, with a prompt visit from a Home Depot representative to examine my project and recommend what type of Renewal by Anderson window would best serve my needs. The next day he came back and we signed a contract and I wrote a check for $5,299.00 for two windows. Installation was projected to be 6-8 weeks, with 8 weeks being the most likely. The installer came out in mid-July (which is 15 months after I signed a contract), but the windows were not the correct size, although they were correct for the measurements initially generated by the installer. He told me he would submit a _rush_ order for the remeasured windows. I received no further communication until mid-September, when, having heard nothing from Renewal by Anderson or the Home Depot, I went into Home Depot and asked customer service to check on the status of my project. THAT WAS 24 MONTHS AFTER I SPENT OVER $5,000 FOR TWO WINDOWS. He was polite, appreciated my situation, and made a call to Renewal by Anderson. He told me they would reach out to me with an update. In a couple of days I got a call from the installer who told me that the windows would be delivered to Home Depot on September 11, and the install would be on September 15. I waited at home all day and heard nothing further. On the 16th, while flying to Colorado for vacation I got a call (a message) from the installer saying he would install on the 16th. I sent a text to him saying that I would be gone for a week, and that he could go into my guest house (a separate structure from my main residence) to complete the process. I got a message from the installer around 7:00 pm on the 16th telling me the project had been completed. When I returned home from vacation on the 23rd of September, the windows were installed, and the job looked professional. I am satisfied with the product (the windows), but am completely unsatisfied with the process, the communication, and the length of time this project required. I generally have no issues doing business with Home Depot, but I am not at all impressed with the manner in which my window project was handled. I am therefore most unlikely to use Home Depot for such a project in the future, or recommend such a project to anyone.
