How Window Treatments from The Home Depot Upgraded My Space

Last updated August 21, 2024

In 2019, Danielle Guerrero and her husband purchased their very first home. It was a new build so as first-time home buyers and young adults, they settled for the bare minimum - no upgrades. On their move-in day, she was ready to start making their house a home! Not knowing where to start, she did what any girl looking for inspiration did and hopped on Instagram. She began watching videos and how-to's and stumbled upon a post on how to DIY faux shiplap. The couple in the video made it look so easy, so she watched the video religiously over and over and finally convinced her husband that they could do this themselves! They bought the supplies, attempted their first DIY, and have been documenting the process ever since on her blog Our Nest on Powell.

I’ve lived in my house for almost 4 years now, and for the entirety of that time, our lower floor has been missing one thing: window treatments! I know you’re probably wondering how I’ve gone that long without a single shade for privacy, and the answer is—I have no idea. I have no doubt in my mind that my neighbors have seen the last four years of my life in that living room, embarrassing dance parties included. I think a part of me put it off for so long because the idea of picking out, measuring and installing window treatments felt so overwhelming. I had no idea where to start. Luckily, The Home Depot made it easy, so my journey to find the perfect window treatments and upgrade my living space began.

Window treatment shopping has never been easier, and I was able to search the The Home Depot's website for a style and color that fit what I was looking for. The Home Depot has so many options to choose from as far as style, and I decided to go with a Solar Roller shade. Once I chose the style, I had to narrow down the colors. If you thought picking a white paint color was tough, think again! I had such a hard time making a decision because I loved so many of the colors available. Thankfully, The Home Depot offers up to 10 free color-sample swatches with next-day shipping so I was able to see the swatches in person before making my decision. This was incredibly helpful, and I was able to come to a decision that I absolutely loved.

Once I made my style and color choices, I received personalized support from a Home Depot expert to schedule a professional to measure all my windows that would be getting a roller shade. The measurement team was so kind and worked quickly to get all the measurements done. They even let me know they could measure every window in the house for any future projects so I wouldn’t need to schedule a second measuring appointment. Once they measured everything, they sent my measurements to the expert I was working with. I loved being able to discuss options with the experts at Home Depot and figure out what styles and additional features would meet my needs best. I landed on a light, creamy color called Flecked Snowball in a fabric that had a 7% openness, so it still let in natural light while blocking the sun. I also went with the Z-wave motorization that allows me to control the shades with a remote. Once everything was finalized, The Home Depot expert placed my order.

After a few short weeks, all my window treatments arrived at my front door, and it was time to schedule an install appointment. Scheduling was super easy and all I had to do was log into my Home Depot account and make the appointment. When it was finally installation day, the professionals were in and out in under 2 hours. They were incredibly helpful with any questions I had and also helped sync my shades to the control. Now I have the window treatments I’ve always dreamed of, all thanks to The Home Depot and their incredible teams, who made this process a breeze! Who is getting theirs done next?
